  1. Arabian Fight:

I think this may be the game that resulted in the term janky being coined. This game, despite having an interesting use of sprite scaling and hand-drawn/cel-animated characters, felt more like a tech demo rather than an arcade game. For Sega brawlers, stick with Golden Axe (save for the misbegotten Beast Rider) and Streets of Rage.  As for arcade Arabian-themed games, Taito's Arabian Magic is still top-notch.

Yeah, this was awful.  Some good ideas just crapped on with poor scrolling and awful sprite scaling.  I think they just tried too much with this game and the end result was irredeemably clunky.

      Looks cool though.

  2. RIP Jerry Stiller from Seinfeld and Hairspray (1987).

      Oh, That sucks! ...  R.I.P.

  3. I've always wondered what ever happened to Novotrade/Appaloosa Interactive? Best known for Ecco the Dolphin.

If this is anything to go by, they either shut down or got absorbed by Eidos after they finished working on Jaws Unleashed: http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Novotrade_International/Appaloosa_Interactive

      Thanks, I appreciate that.

  4. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this mock up I made.

It looks nice! Is it a Megaman like?

      More like Demon's Crest.

  5. Vintage Willys, Kaiser, & AMC Jeeps > Modern Jeeps. (To be fair, the modern Wrangler and Gladiator have more leg room.)

Road Rhinos, that's a good one! To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind owning a Jeep Gladiator/J-Series truck. I would own a CJ, but I'm a bit too tall.

^ Actually Road Rhino is a term I've heard several times over the years as a nickname for the old full-size Jeep Wagoneer. Sadly, I could never find one with a floor left in it as they rusted out bad. I wouldn't mind having an old DJ5 Postal Jeep though..

I hate SUVs, but I've always told myself that if I ever had to get one it'd be an XJ Cherokee (preferably stock!).

  7. Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines are still my favorite 16-Bit titles in the series. (I have no opinion on the x68000 game, though.)

    1. Cobra Kai

      Cobra Kai

Bloodlines is the one I haven't beaten yet. I love this series, the classic games anyway.

Castlevania adventure rebirth is just as good as the 4 major 16 bit entries and the good, but not as good snes dracula x

shame it has been consigned to wiiware for what seems forever.

Ever try Dracula X for PC Engine?

  8. For those wondering why the Super NES version of Valis IV ended up being the dissected port, Telenet had Laser Soft do the job. Had it been a better developer, it would have been closer to the TG-16/PC-Engine CD original with fewer cuts.

    1. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Correction: Laser Soft was also responsible for the original, especially considering that they are a part of Telenet. There I go, making questionable assumptions again.

I thought the SNES version was so boring.  The levels felt very empty.

  9. One of my favorite final battle songs:

I couldn't think of anything better to end Fire Emblem: Three Houses on.

  10. I would rather take twenty of Dennis Miller*, Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux, and Norm MacDonald over another Samantha Bee or Sam Seder any day of the week. *='87-'02 Miller, I might add.

      save2600

Norm's a funny guy. Have one of his stand-up comedy CD's. Simply titled 'Me Doing Standup'.

  11. With Gene Deitch's death last week, I admit that Nudnik was hilarious.

  12. John DiMaggio on Vanity Fair:

    2. ClassicGMR

      ClassicGMR

I admit I looked these up to be accurate:

I preferred him in "The Dance Show" where he played the gay man who's husband was out with Peggy dancing almost every night. "Death of a Shoe Salesman" was a good episode too but he was more creepy in that one.

  15. Best anime villain from last decade: Charlotte Linlin AKA Big Mom from One Piece on account that she's dangerous, delusional, deranged, deadly, imposing and yet charismatic. Besides an elderly woman who is really screwed up in the head as a pirate captain oozes with originality.

  16. I've been listening to Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues.

      Good song!

You know,  that's one of those songs where I heard the title about a million times before I actually heard the song, and then I finally heard it and agreed with the rest of the world that it was in fact pretty good :)

  17. Am I the only person who wouldn't mind seeing American McGee's take on Little Nemo?

      More like little De-mo 🙈

  18. Doom 2016 & Eternal = What Thief 2014 should have been. (Read: A proper and excellent re-imagining.)

    1. Albert

      Albert

Ahh, poor Thief.  Guessing there won't be a sequel to that one.  I used to work at Looking Glass Technologies, so sad to see that happen.

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I hope the Looking Glass successor, Otherside Entertainment, gets the rights to the series from Square Enix.

    3. Albert

      Albert

Well, they're currently working on System Shock 3, so who knows?

  19. I've been binge watching The Critical Drinker's videos, and have been enjoying what he's posted.

  20. I still think that The Blues Brothers was the best non-Star-Wars film that Carrie Fisher worked on. That, and the best non-Pee-Wee-Herman film that Paul Reubens worked on as well.

The Nun in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was pretty cool too...

  21. "Wasting a judge's time, that's twenty years."

  22. I've been playing Energy Breaker again, and this time, avoiding the mistakes I made previously.

  23. There's just something about Mel Blanc's oft-overlooked music that always puts a smile on my face.

    1. eddhell

      eddhell

Mel Blanc would have been the ultimate acid-tripping partner...

  24. If there is one thing that the Street Fighter cartoon got right, having the Beast Wars and ReBoot crew on voices would be that.

Richard Newman as Bison was particularly good.  Just the right amount of cheese to keep the show from being 100% train wreck.

Fun fact: He also voiced Akuma.

  25. In the wake of Placido Domigo getting the Coronavirus, I still like The Three Tenors. (I still know that Luciano Pavoratti died years ago.)
