What was your favorite expansion card for the Apple II?
nicholas042893 replied to Keatah's topic in Apple II Computers
I have found evidence there was a GS version of the card that captures in color! http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/documentation/hardware/video/computereyesgs_manual.pdf There's also software for it. http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/images/gs/hardware/ My lifelong goal will now be to hunt down that card!! Must have it!! -
Calling all Commodore Dial up modem users! BBS
nicholas042893 replied to The Evener's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
I love dialing in to BBSs. I bought a 1200 just for that, but unfortunately the $50 / mo. landline is not in the budget this year. I'm hoping soon I can get back to dialing up. -
Hello there! I've been hunting for HBBS for running a BBS on my spare IIgs, but the software is elusive. I have never seen a copy of it anywhere. I tried to contact the author, Mr. Dornquast about it, but he has not responded to my messages unfortunately. Is there a chance anyone can help me with this? Thanks everyone. - Taylor

nicholas042893 replied to 6502_workshop's topic in Apple II Computers
I'd even pay the price for a disk in a box! I'd pay even more for a IIgs sequel ;D I've been hooked. I'm not so caught on the name though... but I will be looking forward to this release for sure!! -
What was your favorite expansion card for the Apple II?
nicholas042893 replied to Keatah's topic in Apple II Computers
Since I've always worked with making art, I have always loved my ComputerEyes card. I would capture images from video cameras, VCRs, TV, and later I was burning image files to CD and using a DVD player to play the images and capture them on my IIgs. I would trade a Transwarp for it if I had to! (Even though I don't even have a Transwarp...yet!) I haven't used it in a few years, but I should get back to it, really. I want to begin to replicate it in case something ever happens to it. It would also be great to implement more features in the software that would be GS specific, since the Apple II version was more limited unfortunately. A GS version could be stunning! ComputerEyes won me over the first time I used it. -
Supra 20mb External Hard Disk
nicholas042893 replied to Sky7's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
My thought is, if you removed the old, non-functional drive from the case, a SCSI -> CF or SD adapter card should fit just fine. The IDE one I would avoid, personally. IDE drives are more rare now, and overkill for the size you'd need. They're prone to failure again in the not so distant future, even freezing up from sitting. Since you'd be changing the internals anyway, authenticity of what's inside won't be too concerning, so between IDE and CF/SD, the flash cards make the most sense. They are more current and less prone to mechanical wear. They do wear out with many writes, however TOS should not be able to wear out a CF or SD card very quickly at all. For my Apple IIgs, I use a SCSI -> CF adapter (The Aztec Monster) inside the original hard drive case with power supply. You could go with SCSI -> IDE -> SATA by chaining together adapter cards, but that seems messy and I haven't seen it done yet so I can't say for reliability. There is plenty of information available for running TOS from a CF card if you need to. Does any of what I said make sense? To me, this is the best way to keep the old drive looking the same and function the same, but with a little modern update. Of course, others may have better suggestions or different experiences with this. -
When did you get your first DVD player?
nicholas042893 replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
My family got its first DVD player in about 2003, but we didn't use it much until about 2004. As a family we continued to watch VHS tapes primarily until about 2006, when DVDs finally won us over. EXCEPT when it was time to record programs. Until we got DSL in 2011, we would record TV shows on the VCR. We never had cable or a DVR. My sister and I both had our own VCRs while we were growing up in the 90s, but we only had one antenna to share between us for watching/recording TV! Our DVD player was a Sony, and my parents still use it at home to this day, even after we bought them a Blu-Ray player for Christmas a few years ago. -
Do you play more video games in the Summer or the Winter?
nicholas042893 replied to Shawn's topic in Poll Forum
Being in college, the summer is when I get to actually spend time with my video games. Unfortunately, this also means I have more time to spend more money on more games and systems than I should... -
How do you play Intellivision today?
nicholas042893 replied to rgflores's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Hey there! I've always played on the real Intellivision hardware. I tried a flashback but it just wasn't the same. I tried emulators but they also are not the same as the real hardware. I have only ever had one original console. However, today I purchased an Intellivision II, since I have always wanted one and never had the opportunity. The controllers I have replaced as needed by buying parts (like membranes) or entirely new controllers. I have never had console trouble, but I have had a few games stop working for me. Alas, I never felt inclined enough to replace Frog Bog, so it just sits around. I just replace parts and games as needed to keep everything going. I don't think I could ever be satisfied with emulation. I'm hoping there will be a project for the Intellivision like we've seen for the Commodore 64 where new replicas of authentic hardware will be made to replace the old hardware. I'm not aware of that having been done yet, if it's already been done I'm late to the party for sure. I'm hoping this will happen for Atari ST sometime in the future, as mine is quite a hot mess, sadly.
