having now tried the 75 ohm resistor, I have found it doesn't reduce the ghosting. However I think it is technically correct to have it. I have tried it also in various other configurations.

That is the schematic I was thinking of. The site I saw the idea on is here: http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2015/02/atari-2600-composite-video-modification.html

I also have a problem with ghosting with this mod exactly the same. The information I have found about it states that there needs to be impedance matching. I know mismatched impedance is a cause of ghosting but is not the only cause. One suggestion I have found is to add a 75ohm resistor to the output from the transistor amplifier to ground in parallel (if I remember correctly). I assume it works by reducing the current while not affecting the voltage however I do not fully understand how impedance works having only recently come across the problem.

Atari CX2600 (Hong-Kong) video issue (?) help please.

That doesn't suggest to me immediately any video problem, though it is hard to tell from a photo. It shows the TIA is putting out a signal which is a good sign. The only other thing you can look for on that is noise in the signal. I usually compare a colourful game with a screenshot/video.
