  1. Many DOS's were modified to allow them to work better with certain apps, and to do certain things better than others. For example; working with limited RAM. It depends on what you want to do with what you have that should suggest a specific DOS to use. Just try to run Sparta X on a 400 with 16K... David
  2. Found this, so I thought I'd share. Seems like I remember someone asking about an image of a bare 850 board... DavidMil
  3. But... where does my Ethernet cable plug in? I would also like a connection to a time machine, so I could go back in time and warn myself about my first wife! This has soooo much potential, could you many add a couple of more connections? DavidMil
  4. I just tested the two connectors (Red & White) again with my continuity tester and yes, they are both tied to pin 3 of the 5 pin DIN connector. Also the shields of the two RCA jacks tie to ground (pin 2) on the DIN connector. donjn, if your red and white RCA jacks don't ohm out at about zero ohms, you might send Corey at 8BitClassics an email to verify that you got the correct cable. Or, there may be something wrong with the one you got. I know that they make a lot of other cables. Below is a picture of my test. DavidMil
  5. You can send it assembled or in parts. I worked at Compaq in one of the board production buildings (CCM4) for 4 years. I can solder any type of IC I can see and reach with a soldering gun. I don't have an infared device so I can't solder anything with leads under the IC. You can always do like my youngest son did when he moved to a smaller home after living in a house for 10 years. That was six years ago and all of his closets in the new house are still full of boxes to this day! My wife and I volunteered to help him go through them, but he said no. He knew exactly what was in each closet and each box. I guess that is better than sending everything to the attic! David
  6. I'm curious; Are you using external speakers or are the speakers built into the monitor? DavidMil PS. I have the same cable that I bought from 8tbit Classics, and red and white on my set are connected (at least the ohm out at less than one ohm). DM
  7. Oh man! I hate opening boxes anymore! I was back up (you know where) and saw a box marked shoes. I was curious to see what 30 plus years in an attic in Houston would do to a bunch of shoes. My wife's shoes looked kinda like elven shoes, you know with the toes curled up. The tennis shoes had dry rotted and I could bunch a hole in the sides of them with my finger. But... Under the shoes and an old rag was two 850 that looked almost new and one 835 modem that look good too. Also found a couple of 835 boards that look to be complete. No power supplies, but I've got plenty of both types around here somewhere. I just hope they're not in the ATTIC... David
  8. I'd be very happy to test the XL7. I must warn you, I won't be gentle. Do you still have my mailing info, or do I need to PM you with it? David
  9. I'd be willing to buy a XL7 from you. Either assembled or in pieces. I can solder it up, even if it has surface mount parts. DavidMil
  10. I can't tell what is going on with this tread as my screen shows no views and no posts. So please forgive me if I don't get back to anyone right away. DavidMil Now it's working! DM
  11. This also worked! Thank you DrVenkman! David
  12. Opps. My bad. I didn't even notice it was an ATX file. Sorry. David PS. Believe it or not, I actually enjoy all the disk swaps. Makes it feel more like, 'back in the day'. David
  13. I'm trying to load Broderbund's, 'Serpent's Star', but Ape won't even 'see' the first disk. I can see the other three disk images just fine. When I look at the downloaded and unzip file (from Atari Mania) it says that Disk A is an 'APE Protected Disk Image'. So how can I load this image into my SIO2PC adapter (USB)? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, DavidsMil
  14. Some time back I promised to hack into Gateway to Apshai to give the game more lives than the five you start out with. When I found the byte I first tried FF, but that would only give you 55 lives. Then I realized that the game could only recognize the last two digits in the byte. So I can only bump it up to 63 HEX which is 99 decimal. Still 99 lives should be plenty to finish the game. Here it is: DavidMil Gateway_2_Apshai.ATR
  15. Ya know... Sometimes you can think too hard and make something that is easy difficult. I remembered that you can make your executable file bootable by renaming it to autorun.sys. Now that file will boot every time you boot the computer with that disk in drive one. So now that I have the bootable version of my modified Gateway to Apshai, I'll start a new thread with that info (as soon as I make the disk image). I consider this thread closed. DavidMil
  16. 1. Some time back I promised to hack, 'Gateway To Apshai' and give you more lives. I've done that. I tried to change the byte to FF, but the game wont allow that as it only displays two digits. So I put it to 63 HEX (99 decimal). 99 lives is a good number to start with. My question is how to make the disk boot up upon turning on the PC. I have several menu loaders, but I don't want that. I want to boot straight to the game when the PC powers up. Just like a game you used to buy at the store. As soon as I get the game to auto boot I'll make an image of the disk and but it on the site. 17. What would be nuts; If someone bought it! I'd be eating dry dog food for six months to pay for that... David
  18. I'm not much for staying current... My old style flip phone doesn't even text! It cost me a whole $30.00 new, and I'm paying $15.00 a month for phone service. We still get the newspaper every day, and I've just about run out of the mass of incandescent light bulbs I bought at the last second to keep from buying energy saving bulbs. So yes, I admit it, I am a tiny bit old fashion. DavidMil
  19. Actually I am right clicking because I'm left handed and my mouse buttons are reversed. But I want to thank you because your suggestion to use the url for each page worked beautifully. I got all 23 pages one at a time, so once again thank you Fred_M for the suggestion! DavidMil
  20. I'm running Windows 7 Pro and IE 11.0.9. Opening by right clicking on them. Interesting idea Fred_M. I'll try that. My screen browser is not running in full screen, But for some reason it just opens the individual pages in the whole available screen area.
  21. Here is what I get for the same pages:
  22. I don't seem to have an X nor any arrows anywhere on my screen. Specifically I'm looking at the Doc's for, 'The Halley Project'. David
