  1. Help. I change my network (replaced router) - I have new SSIDs and passwords. The router has both 2.5ghz and 5ghz wifi Access Points. In TIPI config (on TI CALL TIPI) I put in both SSIDs one at a time. I am not getting connection (NoIP). After I changed the ssid in tipiconfig I write, then I changed the PW and write again. Then I re(B)oot the Pi. Still no IP. I know the pi model is capable of connecting. I re-did my retro pi without issue (via retroPi's wifi config). Any suggestions? I know this is more Pi related than TiPi related, hopeful to get some help here anyway. I can access the pi locally with monitor KB and mouse connected. Wondering what the Pi's default config is for the tipi (namely via raspi-config) for networking. In case I have to do the initial connection there first. I may have accidentally changed some two setting there as I was going through menu options. Like I may have turned off typically naming of if device or something like that. Seems TIPI is writing to my Pi wpa_supplicant.conf just fine. research says the below should just work. My router security is set to WPA2-PSK [AES] ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev update_config=1 country=US network={ ssid="MYSSID" psk="MY Passkey" key_mgmt=WPA-PSK }
  2. I hate myself sometimes. I used an sd card extender and the3 micro sd car is in an sd card adaptor. The adaptor was plugged into the extender upside down. DOH! Anyway, a bit tired, been a long day. I'll reconnect the tipi and everything tomorrow to ensure I'm good to go. I was at least able to get the display up and logged in to the pi disconnected from the ti. Tomorrow we reconnect everything and try again.
  3. So I got to do some gaming on this today and it works great for me. No controller lag or anything of the sort. if things don't work it sems i only have to do some reading and trial and error to get things working. Much like OLDCS1 said in his blog post. So far so good. A little bit of readin, a little bit of searching and you can find all the answers you need. I'm only going to talk about games I downloaded and tested. So far 2 games. Lode runner downloaded worked straight away. No adjustments needed. The Castles of Dr. Creep (CODC) took some trial and error. First issues, after loading some 3000+ games on the root of the USB stick, the USB Game Loader screen will only display a max of 256 entries including files and folders. I could not see COTD until I split up all the directories by alpha/numeric ordered folders. But my C folder still had too many so I had to further subdivide that into the first half of the alphabet and second half folders. The game now loaded but the joystick didn't work. After some reading I discovered the usb joystick gets set as JOY2 by default and several games (CODC being one of them) requires only one joystick and it must be set as JOY1. I had to add J1 to the end of the file name and it still didn't work. Then I realized I needed an underscore before game specific switch so i added _J1. It works! But the file name only supports 8-10 characters I think (forget which 8, 9 or 10) so I renamed the file to CODC_J1.d64 and I was back to not being able to find the file. I noticed all other game titles were in lower case so I renamed the filed to codc_J1.d64 and that worked! OK game loading and joystick now working. The game ran all the way through the tutorial but crashed on game level loading. CODC has a built in option to use fast loader, the c64mini is set to use fast loader by default but the game was crashing, it crashed worse when I set in game to not use fast loader. A bit more reading meant I needed to add AD to the game switches in the file name. I renamed the file to codc_ADJ1.d64. AD disables fast loader on the c64mini and uses a more accurate disk emulation mode. I also needed to disable fast loader in game. The game takes a few minutes to load for the first time but it works flawlessly now. And with 4 game state save slots as part of the c64mini options, I no longer have to load the game from the beginning which means instant loading from now on. With over 3000 titles to play with, this thing will keep me busy when bored, at least until my Ultimate64Elite arrives. Then it will become my Portal c64 solution while at home I will use the real deal U64E.
  4. I didn't even notice the one with the G64 images. I'm a Data collector anyway so having the nib archived is something i'd do anyway but I think the 3rd zip will a least curb the hours of conversion (even though it's a batch convert of all nbz files it is still taking hours...)
  5. OLDCS1 - Your blog is awesome. Thanks for that. I'm converting all 3000+ nib files so it's going to be awhile before I start playing in depth. I did load up me d64 images I had but only Lode runner worked. and DrCreep joystick did not work. After reading your blog, I see some file renaming may fix these issues. Will give it a go when conversations are completed. Been running for little over an hour now and about 1/3rd of the way through.
  6. Not to derail the topic too much but I'm not getting video from my Pi. I recently upgraded my network so I know the Pi cannot connect to the the wifi yet.
  7. It arrived today. I updated the firmware. Tomorrow I'll load up a bunch of d64 files and try them out. First 2 on my list are Castles of Dr Creep and Lode Runner.
  8. I didn't want to answer until i knew I was ready on my end. And after months of no TIPI usage, the pi connected to my TIPI has issues. I have to disconnect it from tipi this weekend and start my troubleshooting process. Which means going through Matt's github and tipi webpage to see if there are any updates I need to do to tiPi and then see if there is a new SD image. If not, I might need to reimage my SD with the image I last downloaded and see how far I get. I hope it's the pi and not my TiPi/32k. But that's moving off topic. I would very much like to participate in such an event. Life is passing me by too quickly these days and I'm hardly taking notice.
  9. Didn't realize the format difference. No, you can't just rename the nbz files. They are exact replica of original disks (with copy protection in tact). This is the tool to use to convert. Not sure if it does batch conversion. I'll be looking into it myself sometime over the weekend... More Info https://github.com/markusC64/nibtools Where I actually found a download link: http://commodore.software/downloads/download/80-disk-file-transfer-tools/8024-nib-tools OK also this: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=128899 Copy nib convert to the same folder you extracted nibtools in. run nib convert and drag and drop nbz files into the app (doe batch, I dunno how many are good to try - I tried 20 or so at once) and nib convert will convert the nbz file to g64 files and save them in the same directory as the nbz files leaving the originals in tact. Also, that big collection i downloaded for the U64E well before being convinced to get the C64mini. I know G64 files work with the U64E. I don't know about the mini tho'. However, nibtools is supposed to be able to convert G64 to D64. Let me know hoe it works out for ya...
  10. Just ordered one. The original price tag was a bit high but for $30 and the new firmware upgrade I couldn't resist. Fear of them selling out and becoming hard to find at a reasonable price I suppose. Hopeful it will keep me satisfied until my U64E arrives sometime in August. This entire topic convinced me (mostly the latest posts). Thanks all.
  11. Can't answer all the other questions but I found this pretty large collection here - https://archive.org/download/C64_Preservation_Project_10th_Anniversary_Collection The main page for the collection is here - https://archive.org/details/C64_Preservation_Project_10th_Anniversary_Collection
  12. -5.25" floppy disk head cleaner kit <---Interested.
  13. This is what I use. https://www.c64forever.com/download/ Haven't had any issues loading up games to play.
  14. When the time comes, I'll give it a shot. in the meantime, I purchase a cart to test these other 2 C64s to see if maybe one can't fix the other (chip swaps). PS - Also, this cart has something to do with TTL and ASCII - seems the ham radio community was into them for being able to file share over UHF.
  15. I received two Commodore 64 computers (donated). Neither one works (reportedly). I opened the boxes today to see if I could at least get symptoms to troubleshoot. inside one of the boxes is a long cartridge and google is turning up nothing. Any idea what the AEA-Soft MBATEXT/64 is and what it's used for? Is there software that comes with it (a program disk?). Just curious. I preordered an Ultimate 64 - Elite to put in one of these dead C64 cases and will plug this cart in when that unit arrives (months away) but I have no idea what to expect.
  16. I never owned a C64 back in the day. I have two now donated by friends but the units are not in working order. Not even sure where to start troubleshooting. So I decided to get an Ultimate64 elite on pre-order. Enough of that (Getting back on topic). 2 games I recall playing at friends houses were The Goonies and The Castles of Dr. Creep if you're into to those kinds of puzzle solving adventure type platformers. On that note, The Castles of Dr Creep is now available on STEAM. And yes, still very difficult but playing it at least weekly to see if I can finally complete the game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/517930/The_Castles_of_Dr_Creep/
  17. If the graphics on each screen could be off-set just the right way then yeah, crossed eyes and play Hunt The Wumpus in 3D.
  18. I've been out of the loop for a long while as you know. New job with little free time to pursue hobbies like I was doing in the past but the wheels are turning so forgive me if this has been addressed already. I personally would like to see if there was a way for TIPI to use a URL like a DSK for both read and write. The simple number game demo I did where two people could play a number guessing game, to see who would be the first to guess correctly, used computers on the same LAN. I never did get the quirks worked out in trying to use a cloud storage like a shared drop box folder for sync'ing - it was a bit slow and something could get screwy (out of sync). But locally where a PC had a drive letter to the TIPI folder it worked a charm (emulated TI vs TIPI TI). Loading programs off the net is a standard feature but if we could save to the url then I think it opens up huge pathway to other multiplayer games, not just 1v1. Best guess might be using the pi for the URL authentication (User IDs?) to map a read right directory (ftp maybe?). I fell off the boat a while back and don't completely understand how the current iteration of multiplayer games work over the net. Perhaps this is already done?
  19. Ah right, I think it's all GROM based for that reason.
  20. Ca't help wonder if Tursi's video code can be altered to stream movies off the TiPi.
  21. Are you signing them? You really should. That would be the bees knees.
  22. Awe thanks guys. so sorry for being afk for so long. I've had some major life changes to transition to. But I'm slowly working my way back to my hobbies. I would love to update the video tutorial but I feel like a noob all over again. LOL. It's going to be some time before I'm back posting regularly and working on things. right now I'm trying to square up some unfinished business with projects I've put on hold for far too long.
  23. *WANT* - I have Dragon's Laire on multiple platforms. Have yet to actually finish it. This looks amazing for the TI and would love to be included on the "Try to get one" list. I wonder how far I'll get on the TI version.
  24. Surly you can be bribed into the super deluxe pack for non-attendees?
