Yes, if bootstrapping from tape fails (with OPTION pressed), it has nothing to do and enter the selftest-mode.

 

If you tested and all 3 tapes fail, most likely your recorder is bad.

tape-drive mechanism has to much fluctuation.....

drive-belt issues or just years of dust.

Ok time to open the recorder up and give it a good cleaning I guess and check belts etc

Hi I tried 3 different tapes and cleaned the heads

 

Would a bad tape cause the test to pop up ?

 

But I will try the other sides as suggested

Hello

 

I bought an Atari 65XE and when I switch it ok, it comes up READY...so seems OK

 

When I switch it on and Press Option and Start to load a tape and press return it all seems to be going fine (makes the screeching loading noises etc)

 

But After a while it comes up with a self test ???

 

So is this a faulty Cassette Unit ??
