Any chance you have pictures of the mod work from Yurkie you can post for us to see versus the proper fix Citrus did for you afterward?

Here is how the system played upon receiving it:

Citrus3000psi took pics of the mod I received. Here are the images.

Here is a description of what he found (3rd post):

  2. I sent Yurkie my Colecovision on 6/29/2017 for an rgb mod, controller refurb and a new power switch. After a few PMs to check in I was told it was done on 9/8/2017. A tracking number was provided on 9/26/2017... but it wasnt received until 10/10/2017 because it was left in his girlfriends trunk.

Unfortunately it was not functional on arrival. After some work travel I realized things were not working and contacted him 11/4/2017. He replied quickly. Sorry your having issues. The RGB mod is adjusted via my framemeister for video output. About all I can suggest is you adjusting the RGB mod board for your PVM. Looks like the blue level is high.

I have never had a customer issue, about the only way to correct this is for you to adjust the pots on the mod board.

I recommend slipping a piece of card stock or folded up piece of paper under the mod board to prevent the solder points on the underside of the board from shorting against the colecovision board.

Upon opening the system, the connector was epoxied into place so the board could not be removed. The mod board was wrapped in plastic. Adjusting the pots did not help. Citrus3000psi helped me out. I had thought he would just make some fixes but after seeing the mod he went the extra mile and designed a whole new RGB board. More details are here:

Yurkie did returbish my controllers and replace my power switch. This work was done well. He was never rude. However after receiving a completely broken rgb mod, with poor worksmanship, a 1 month return shipping delay, and the lack of support other than adjust the blue pot I cannot recommend his services.

I got my SOPHIA boards about a week ago and today I was able to find time to install them in my 5200 and 800XL. Very impressed with the picture quality and I'm really happy to have RGB at last for my A8s. There a few things to keep in mind though.

    • First off, the pins on the SOPHIA board are on the short side and will hardly fit in a conventional socket. I had to replace the GTIA sockets in both systems with precision sockets which fit the SOPHIA like a glove.
    • On both systems the SOPHIA board hit the top of another chip (two in the 5200's case), so I had to remove the chips in question, desolder the sockets and then solder the chips directly to the motherboard. You could avoid this on the 5200 by stacking another socket on the SOPHIA but I think you'd run into clearance issues on the 800XL.
    • I also ditched the DB9 connectors and instead soldered on a female 8-pin mini-DIN jack. This wasn't too hard and I avoided having to drill extra holes since both systems previously had S-video mods. However, if you're installing your video connector on the 5200's expansion port panel, you'll need to splice in some extra wires onto the wiring harness as the one included is kind of short.

Can you post pics of your 5200 install please? I'd like to take a similar approach particularly the 8 pin din.

  4. I got mine installed in my 5200 last night, however making a cable is out of my expertise. Would someone who knows how to make them sell me a db-9 to scart cable with the audio wired in per Simius' spec? I reached out to retro_console_accessories but I have yet to hear back from them.

I messaged her too. Hopefully if others do too the cable will be available soon!

  5. I plan to use SOPHIA for RGB SCART output from my Atari 5200. I saw the pinouts given before. Are there any cables being made for this? For other consoles I have purchased from eBay seller retro_console_accessories. Thanks so much!

    I heard back from retro_console_accessories!

"Yes I can, I have connectors for those but I've not got round to making a listing as yet, I keep getting sidetracked by other stuff. It should be appearing in the store soon though."

  6. As a total Atari n00b please forgive me if this is not in the right section. I am trying to RGB mod my 5200 using a VBXE as per http://atariage.com/forums/topic/183821-rgb-in-5200/page-2

In order to do so, I believe I would need to reprogram the VBXE to version 1.02 and load the 5200 file(s) by hooking the VBXE up to an XL or XE computer. I don't have such a computer. Would there be anyone willing to help me out with this step? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help directly or point me in the right direction.

  7. If that's the case, just shoot a note to Lotharek before you order it. I am sure he can do that for you before he ships it if you are unable to do it yourself..

But yeah, you want the FPGA core that does the 31khz output without all the AMIGA-like graphics mode enhancements..

I sent a message to Lotharek...no luck. He said he would be unable to support it. Anyone here able to help get it programmed for this mod?

I also have contacted Tim Worthington who did the 2600RGB mod. He has no plans to support the 5200. So this is it atm.

    Awesome. Thanks!

  9. MEtalGuy66, I owe you the thank you for posting the link to lotharek site. That did not show up in prior Google searches I did.

Lilralphie, I ordered a VBXE from lotharek's web site. Have already received confirmation that order received and it Will ship this Monday. If you have a frameister xrgb mini you really want to RGB mod your old systems. I installed RGB kits in NES, Atari 2600 and Intellivision. NES is the hardest if you do not have a desoldering iron.

Great. Excited to hear your experience!

  10. Thanks Lilralphie. Didn't know this still exists. It,'s a nearby like solution. I ordered a VBXE.

I've also PM eightbitter asking if he still has the instructions. I'll not, we can figure out how to install it.

    Awesome.

I PM'ed eightbitter when I started the reply too - didn't hear back yet but will certainly post if I do.

I would LOVE to hear your thoughts as you approach the VBXE. Would you mind taking pics as you do so? I know that www.retrorgb.com would update their info if we can lay out how to do it!

  11. Scart is already 15khz RGB so you shouldn't have a problem with that. What is a framemeister?

Alternatively, it is possible to install/flash the VBXE to do 31khz RGB and thus hook directly to a VGA style input.

You should PM Lotharek on here. He can point you in the right direction for sure.

Thank you for your reply. The Framemeister (aka x-rgb mini) is a high quality upscaler device for converting RGB SCART into 720p or 1080p HDMI.

I will definitely PM Lotharek. Thanks for your help!

I believe that one should work. There are plenty of people who can help you with the connection points if no one has a pre-baked set of instructions for the 5200 yet..

That would be awesome. If you could direct me to someone who could help that would be great. I want to run RGB SCART to my PVM and my flatscreen via the Framemeister...
