FABombjoy replied to omeganu's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Nice '82! In the market for a twin turbo kit? Good luck with the Vectrex sale! -

I would like to distribute this in the US but I'm not sure where the head of this beast is Can someone involved in the physical production contact me privately about setting up a deal? -
Great to meet you and Dan as well! There was so much, just so much going on... at times was like being in a scene from the 5th Element. I was hoping to make it back for networked Battlesphere but missed it. There's always next year! This is unfortunately true, but something that I would like to change for future releases

Brother, you earned it Good seeing you again! We'll try for breakfast again next year... Sunday turned into a bit of a goat rodeo. It was nice to put a few more forum names to faces. I haven't been to MGC in 5 years and I was pleasantly overwhelmed by how much there was to do and see.

Put me down for one, please!

Another new Tron / Intellivision release? ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney.jpg!

For posterity, the RF adjustment points There are holes in the shielding, which makes this a lot easier.

wonky INTV "Super Pro" Console for trade?

I'm interested - PM heading your way! -
I plan on stocking the cart as well, once complete.

A switchbox won't help. The RCA->F-type adapter is as good as it gets. With a System III (and original Intellivision), there are a few steps to getting at the modulator. You'll have to remove the upper case and plastic controller cable tray, and lift the main PCB assembly up. I can't recall offhand if there are holes in the shielding that you can pass an adjustment tool through. Really you can fairly safely turn the adjustments without negative effect. You'll be able to see & hear when they're about right. A very narrow (~2mm) flathead screwdriver will turn the adjustments. Normally a TV shop would use a tool from a set of "tweak sticks" to do this, but if you have a teeny flathead, it will do just fine. If you're OK with disassembly and tweaking, I can check some of my scrap boards and make sure that the adjustments are accessible without having to remove the shielding, and elaborate on the instructions.

The modulator is internal, albeit somewhat seperate from the main PCB. It's what converts the audio / video signals into something that's picked up on channel 2 / 3 / 4. The switchbox you're thinking of simple lets you switch from one device to another.
-
Sometimes the audio carrier can drift out of spec and then interfere with the video carrier. IIRC, there is an adjustment on the modulator. You might try giving it a little tweak in one direction or the other and see if that helps.

Probably all for the best, the USPS postal smashing machine was in full force during December. I've never encountered so many damaged parcels in one month. Now for the good news: Impulse X has arrived and is ready to ship!
-
If you can wait just a wee bit longer, I will be offering them in the US as soon as they arrive
-
Shielding galore. The model III is built in a similar manner to the original Inteliivision, with the added "bonus" of a power LED that's been soldered directly to the main PCB (well, there's wires to the LED, but no removable plug)

Agreed on the Majesco screens. They do seem to have better contrast and a touch less blur. The screen cover scratches if you look at it wrong, but that's another story
-
I think they're on AA somewhere, if not, I have them here.

Ahh, good to know. I'm nowhere near the boneyard at the moment and it wasn't standing out in my brain

It's probably time to dig in to the field service manual and follow the troubleshooting flowcharts, specifically section 4A-2. I wish I would have seen this topic before you ordered, I would have steered you there first The lifted pin is trigger input 3 on the GTIA which isn't used on a 2-port version. I have no clue as to why it's like that but it makes me suspicious of the troubleshooting history it's been through before you got it.

Sure, I can send you a few pics in a day or so, but the short story is: The 100uF caps should stand straight up, more or less in the same locations as stock Everybody else should lay down CC505 (by the ribbon cable) should lay away from the ribbon cable Things get crowded by the power & audio jacks, but don't be afraid to extend the legs if you have to. The top shield can safely be left off with no effect to the quality of the picture or sound.
-
The majority of the time, replacing the rest of the caps will fix a no-image problem. At this time, pretty much every cap in every TurboExpress ever made is going bad and should be replaced.

I've sent payment to Matthias, so any US buyers that don't mind waiting just a little longer can purchase them from me and save on shipping!
