@Atariboy2660 You think with this technique that your proposed Kangroo game might be doable now
-
I got some questions, can the color of the bullets be changed and how many colors can it be if the first question is yes.
-
I think there are very people that can beat that game. I myself got far as the map before the Solaris one. I wouldn't mind a Solaris hack that let you get more four extra ships.
-
Yeah it does suck, it worse for Mac users since we have no choice and stuck with MESS.
-
I got a question for you programmers, can this idea of creating "illusion" color be applied to other consoles like the 7800?
-
I think that's because you don't have the sound samples that go with that game.
-
I heard that Atari was working on Robotron for the 2600 but it got canned because there was too much flicker.
-
I'm just saying it's a joystick with a ball with none of the analog control.
-
I think that's a Wico track ball but it's not a real track ball.

I used the search function so you didn't slog though 16 pages. Go HERE

I know of your pain, I never understood how to get SDL versions of MacMAME and MacMESS to run. Making KOF 2003 and many Neo Geo hacks are brainddead easy to complie in regular MacMAME than getting that SDL program to work. Since you're ranting about the frontend being separate from the program, I bad news for you, that's the future of those programs.

Despite a few obvious problems, this show a lot promise.

Wasn't NAMCO's original name "Nihon Amusement Machine COmpany"?
-
I've played the MESS version of this and I got to say waves of flying enemies made my thumb tired. I was wondering what kind of changes are you going to make to this hack.
-
well, if there was a version for MESS I would be able to comment on it.

Here's a quick mock shot of what the level might look like: I may have made a few goofs but as far as pixel accuracy I think it's pretty good.
-
Dan Boris figured out how the instant replay really works. It's really a stalling for time and suviving some close calls. Getting the replay is just very easy in the watermelon waves. It's a bit a more tricky on a non-watermelon level. The thing is once you get an replay, you can't get another one for the next four waves.

Well, that's too bad but at least I can play the NES version anyway. It would've been cool to play the mini and bizzard mazes on the 7800. Keep up the good work.
-
I've seen hacked mazes for the arcade game that do the same thing. If managed to eat all the ghosts in that maze, it becames very easy since you don't have worry about dying. The only downside is that you can't rack up alot points unless you somehow die. @Bob I asked about the NES mazes because the many of the mazes in the NES version of Ms. Pac-Man do look the news mazes in your hack.
-
I've just played around a little bit. I'm impressed that you managed to fit that all into a ROM. The some of the mazes remaind me of the mazes in the NES version of Ms. Pac-man. Did you base those mazes from that game?

Were they much different than the ones I am using you created? I am pretty happy with the prior ones you created I am using Only thing I don't really like is the purple ball bounce, and slick and sam to some extent. The purple ball is probably some hybrid of something you drew and I modified. It just doesnt look 100% when it squishes. Slick and sam, it probably isnt possible to do much better with the pixels available Thanks again for all your help They're just have the same number of frames of animation as Q*bert but they look the same as the still versions. I'll looking into the animations for the purple ball, slick, and sam. I doubt there's any way to improve slick and sam but I'll give it a shot.

You should check out MacSDLMESS! Huh, that's interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Will definitely try this out and see how well it works. ..Al I've been running MacMESS for quite a while, it runs okay. I do find the interface is a little odd and it definately has issues with the wrong colors. ie Pac-Man Plus' hacks having a green ghost when it should have a cyan ghost.

The only way we can possibly play Marble Madness II is if Midway puts that game in a collection for PSX2, Xbox, or Wii but I don't think that's ever going to happen.
-
Unfortunately, there's no other choice when emulating the 7800. Most of the time, the reason the 7800 doesn't work is because it's missing the 7800 BIOS file in the ROM folder.

Well that pretty comfirms a good chunk of my theory of how to get the replays. It was always easier to get a replay on the watermelon levels simply because of the unlimited ammo to draw out the level. An odd thing tho' I once got an replay but I died in the replay.
