I've just played around a little bit. I'm impressed that you managed to fit that all into a ROM. The some of the mazes remaind me of the mazes in the NES version of Ms. Pac-man. Did you base those mazes from that game?

Finally getting back to trying to finish b*nQ.
I did finish some animations for Ugg and Wrong-Way but I got very sick.
Were they much different than the ones I am using you created? I am pretty happy with the prior ones you created I am using
If want see what they look like, just ask for them and I'll dig in my old computer and get them.Only thing I don't really like is the purple ball bounce, and slick and sam to some extent. The purple ball is probably some hybrid of something you drew and I modified. It just doesnt look 100% when it squishes. Slick and sam, it probably isnt possible to do much better with the pixels available
Thanks again for all your help
They're just have the same number of frames of animation as Q*bert but they look the same as the still versions.
I'll looking into the animations for the purple ball, slick, and sam. I doubt there's any way to improve slick and sam but I'll give it a shot.

Unfortunately the Mac version of MESS doesn't appear to have been updated in over a year. I don't remember having much luck the last time I tried to run it, but that was some time ago. There have been significant improvements made to the 7800 emulation in MESS since then, and these have not made it into the Mac version. It's one of the few systems for which a decent emulator doesn't exist on the Mac.You should check out MacSDLMESS!

Huh, that's interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Will definitely try this out and see how well it works.

..Al
I've been running MacMESS for quite a while, it runs okay. I do find the interface is a little odd and it definately has issues with the wrong colors. ie Pac-Man Plus' hacks having a green ghost when it should have a cyan ghost.

I was unaware there was any hate towards MAME at all. I do understand from the purists point of view but some people just wanna play games, so they'll use it. The only person I ever thought
there was any hate towards was the guy who has the Marble Madness II roms, but I gather that's just from people who want to play the game and are frustrated that they can't.
The only way we can possibly play Marble Madness II is if Midway puts that game in a collection for PSX2, Xbox, or Wii but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

So i downloaded mess, and i cant find an option to emulate 7800, so are there any other alternatives for mac?
Unfortunately, there's no other choice when emulating the 7800. Most of the time, the reason the 7800 doesn't work is because it's missing the 7800 BIOS file in the ROM folder.

As some people mentioned above it mainly has to do with having only a little time left on the cone (you can't leave the level in less then 12 seconds), and having a certain quantity of "close calls" with the chefs. There are also restrictions on which levels it can happen on and how often it can happen. Replays can happen on levels 5-17, 100-499, 600 and up. Seems like an odd set of numbers but that's what the code says. Also once you get a replay you have to wait for 5 more levels where you didn't leave the level early before you will get another replay.
Well that pretty comfirms a good chunk of my theory of how to get the replays. It was always easier to get a replay on the watermelon levels simply because of the unlimited ammo to draw out the level. An odd thing tho' I once got an replay but I died in the replay.

Just got a Neo Geo AES not too long ago, and I've been playing Fatal Fury 1 for the past few days. Pretty fun game (much better than SNES version I had!) but - is it just me, or is Terry's "Crack Shoot" really hard to pull off consistently? It seems like the timing is really weird, like you have to pause in the middle of the joystick motion.... or hit the button just right ... Anyone else? I also think it's weird (and kind of funny) that the booklet has all the moves written in.... but they're ALL wrong!
Actually, the moves for Fatal Fury were hard to do. The only move that was easy to do was that elbow move that Andy Bogard had.

As near as I can figure out, you just draw out the level as much as you can before you eat the ice cream cone. That works for me but it usually works on the watermelon levels and every five levels.

I've been part of the MAME development team for many years and although there may be a case here and there where "egotism and elitism" may occur, in general I find it to be a very good, easy to work with group of people. For the most part everthing the team does is to serve the goals of the project. Unfortunetly these oftern conflict with the interests of the people using MAME just to play the games. The ROMS not working is a perfect example. MAME always tries to support the best know set of ROMS so it can always be used as a reference for what the correct roms are. By not supporting incorrect roms, it encourages people to get rid of these bad roms sets (althought this often doesn't happen).
Also the team, like a lot of emulator authors, have to deal with a lot of clueless and even downright ignorant people and this can really wear on your nevers.
Dan
Ah I've known of your work in MAME. No disrepect to you or MAMEDEV but egotism and elistism is a common complaint. Another thing is that the MAME policy seems to change on a whim. For example, there was a policy of not emulating Neo Geo hacks and bootlegs but that changed several versions ago to allow them in MAME. I know there are some users wondering what's the deal with MAMEDEV.
I do know MAME strives towards accuracy but the ROM changes are definitely an inconvenience we users we got to deal with every once in a while. I'll take that over the mess that is the NeoRAGE roms.
Yeah I do understand that there's a lot of clueless users that don't read the READ ME files which does explain how to work MAME. Plus the every popular "Where's are the ROMs"
-
Well, I find most of the hate is towards MAMEDEV. They have been accused of egotism, elitism and some rather shady dealings. Not to mention the EMU drama that the group tends to get. Stuff like that sucks the fun out of MAME unless you nothing of the drama around MAME.

If only it was real.

I think the mothership could use a little work. Does the mother in your verision just sit or does it fire back or send demons to kill the player.

Ah this was my favorite game back in the day. Even now I still want a 7800 version of Crystal Castle. Nice mockups by the way. I think with the current rendings, you would have problems making the last level of this game.
-
I like it too, but I wish there were more variety to the shapes of the rocks. They're all perfect spheres...
So when is somebody going to work on Space Duel or Asteroids Deluxe?

I've mentioned Glider Pro
http://homepage.mac.com/calhoun/Glider%20PRO.html
The guy who created it, released as public domain and it's legal and free.
Too bad the house editor was never ported to OSX.

I haven't posted in thethread in a long time. I do think the red balls should have three speeds, like in arcade game.
I did finish some animations for Ugg and Wrong-Way but I got very sick. If want see what they look like, just ask for them and I'll dig in my old computer and get them.

What kind of games are you looking for? The games off the top of my head I name are Glider Pro, Simcity 2000, and Escape Velocity

if somebody is going to work on this, a trackball version would be nice.
This makes me wonder what else GCC was working on.

You're complaining about crappy graphics? Why not craft some fake screenshots to suggest how Double Dragon should look like.
If you read my original post thoroughly, you'll find I never once complained about the crappy graphics. People took the thread in that direction. My statement was very matter of fact. Everyone in the game litterally looks like street urchins. They are all wearing rags and none of them own shoes.
It's like a poverty rowe production of Double Dragon. If you want me to do mock screenshots of the characters wearing shoes, I doubt that would be anything but INCREDIBLY amusing.
-Ray
Well the point with fake screenshots is to demostrate how much better that could look. Then somebody can look at it and make a hack out of it.

The characters and graphics are probably still protected under copyright, but the BurgerTime trademark is no longer an issue. Q*Bert is still active, however.Yeah, I figured Data East is dead since their last game was Magical Drop III and that was back in the late 90's. So I assume it's safe to Beef Drop, Burgertime then?

I'm horrible at this game in MAME so I'm not sure what else needs changed. Suggestions or comments are welcome as always.I have you thought about using the cheat.dat file? Some that's cheap but I would argue it's a very useful tool when doing reseach or taking screenshots.
You get that dat file from http://cheat.retrogames.com/ then click on Pugsy's cheat file and download the lastest one.

7800 Pac-Man collection here!

I've seen hacked mazes for the arcade game that do the same thing. If managed to eat all the ghosts in that maze, it becames very easy since you don't have worry about dying. The only downside is that you can't rack up alot points unless you somehow die.
@Bob
I asked about the NES mazes because the many of the mazes in the NES version of Ms. Pac-Man do look the news mazes in your hack.
