  1. Maybe I'll try this upstairs then. I have mine plugged in the basement on a CRT, but it did happen on an LCD monitor down here as well.
  2. Was playing Atari just now. Couldn't stand those lines on the screen.. ugh. Here's an example.
  3. Well, my reply was directed at the Atari experts on this forum I've noticed this vertical banding / jailbar issue in other threads for other hardware. I'll try to find examples from other threads later. Seems to be a common issue but is fixable.
  4. Would the green "chiclet" capacitor next to the 7805 voltage regulator have anything to do with it? Normally it would need to be replaced if the image starts showing snowy static after a while of playing. For our vertical banding issue it seems like interference between parts. Maybe the power source at the RF connector (pin 3) needs to be taken from a spot closer to the 5V source? In my modded system I was using that same pin.
  5. Might not be the RIOT, I agree. I see shadows on numbers on my composite modded 4-switch as well. Best example - the number 1 in the first screen of Adventure.
  6. One observation I made just now is that my Jr. Has the CD4050 chip on the lower right. Not sure if that helps in anything, but I thought it helped in synchronizing the video signals?
  7. Maybe we can compare the schematic for the sixer and 4-switch to see what could be causing it (Eg. A different capacitor somewhere?). My non-modded Atari Jr. doesn't show vertical lines either.

  9. Okay, ordered a set of 5 "new" 6532s from Hong Kong. One long month of waiting
  10. I see "shadows" or blurry edges on the scores of some games and also on the missile launchers in Missile Command.
  11. Hmm the one you linked is "manufacturer refurbished". There are others that are "New" though. Not sure if I want to get one or buy a set of 5 and play lottery.
  12. Oh cool! No wonder I couldn't find any on eBay; I was searching for "Atari 6532" all this time, not the part number on its own.
  13. What I meant was that I was comparing the picture with the original TIA in my modded unit to the picture with the new TIA in the same modded unit. So the picture in the same Atari was affected by just changing the TIA (and RIOT).
  14. Interesting, I tried it on an LCD monitor (using a composite jack + video capture device) and the rolling diagonal lines were not there. So it could just be the fault of my CRT TV, but I don't be have another CRT to compare with.
  15. No, the chips do not get touched when you modify from RF to composite.
  16. Ok, here's something I tried today on my Rev. 13 four-switch woody 2600: 1) Replaced TIA (bottom chip) with the one from the Rev. 14 Atari: Colours became more saturated 2) Then I replaced the RIOT (the top chip) with the one from the Rev. 14 Atari: Jailbar effect became slightly more pronounced (!) So, I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but perhaps there is an issue with the RIOT deteriorating over time and overuse.
  17. LOL, I hadn't thought of asking you :-) I'll send you a PM. Thanks!
  18. I have a four-switch woody that has a broken non-functional reset switch. The clip on its left side is also missing. Just wondering if anyone has this switch available (or if you can de-solder it from your non-working Atari), with spring still intact. It's the type that has the opening on the sides, just like the one on the left of the attached photo.
  19. I've noticed the same problem on a Rev. 13 four-switcher with composite mod, as well as a Rev. 14 four-switcher non-modded. Hmmm..
  20. I have determined that the red color bleed in my Atari is due to the CRT TV I am using. Perhaps it's only on this TV and may not happen on another CRT. To prove this, I hooked up my Atari to a composite video capture device connected via USB to my computer, which goes to the LCD monitor. There was no bleeding on the LCD. The attachment below shows how it looks like on this monitor. Furthermore I also hooked it up to my 40" LCD HDTV and there was no bleeding (despite the horrible video quality). EDIT: The black striping pattern you see on the walls of the maze are normal for composite; the same thing happens with other composite video devices connected to the monitor. The only issue that still appears on both the LCD and CRT TV is the vertical banding (faint lines) that appear in the background. For example, on a bright grey or blue background (Aquaventure, Radar Lock, etc.) you will notice this. In the attached picture you may notice it at the bottom within the black background, although this isn't a good example. I have also noticed this vertical line issue on other people's mods posted on the site. Is there any way to solve this?
  21. Kris purchased a NEO Sega MKIII flash cart from me. He was a pleasure to deal with and I would do business with him again. Thanks Kris!
  22. I bought a modded Atari Flashback 2 from Bradd. The workmanship was excellent quality and I couldn't ask for a better job done. Great communication, easy to talk to. Thanks Bradd!
  23. I also purchased a set of ColecoVision overlays from Phil last summer. Was a pleasure to deal with and he provided a quality product. Helped rekindle my love for the old Colecovision. Thanks Phil!
  24. When I was looking for a bottom shell for an Atari 2600 in the marketplace, Sean responded right away and offered his for a good price. Shipping to Eastern Canada from California was fast and the item was as described and well-packaged. A pleasure to do business with. Thanks Sean!
  25. When I was a kid I had a Colecovision and had friends with Ataris. Recently at a party I told a friend that I was getting back into old gaming systems like Atari and Colecovision and he laughed at me like I was crazy. This is a guy who is a couple years older than me, I'm 40. Maybe he never experienced video games as a kid but he sure enjoys investing tons of hours into his MMORPGs late into the night. I think most people are into the "hi-tech" and not necessarily into the simplicity or nostalgia. For me it's more than that, it's like a time machine, and I don't like spending 50 hours on a game. I just want to pick up and play, and write down my high score. My kids (both under 10 years) enjoyed the Atari for a while but now they're back into PS3 and PS4... they got bored of the old stuff and graphics after a while but they really enjoyed Warlords, Indy 500 and Frog Pond.
