  1. 64147 I like it that the game pauses on the score screen so that you can easily take a picture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. I am excited to get my hands on one of these! I haven't combed this entire thread yet, but are there options for the cartridge shell yet? Thank you, Jim
  6. I've played this game a few times this week. It is fun and I am learning the mazes. I haven't made it to the Shadow's Lair yet, but I have made to to the red level. The number of spiral droned, robo droids, and especially those nasty snap jumpers is overwhelming. I tried this game out on the Commodore 64 this week also. That version seems impossible. Not that it is easy on the TI-99/4A, but I do think it is possible.... Attached is a video of my most recent quest to find the Shadow's Lair. This time in emulation on Classic 99 with a Logitech F310 controller.

  12. Defender Challenge Final Results: Here is where we stand: Mizapf 266550 Globeron 87050 Sometimes99er 57000 Digdugnate 22500 Sinphaltimus 6500 Thank you all for playing and posting. It has been fun doing a "deep dive" into one game for 30 days. Defender was attractive to me because you flew a cool-looking spaceship and defended the planet. It was very challenging, but rewarded you for practice. Plus it has lots of cool buttons on the control panel and wicked sounds. I really enjoyed listening to Eugene Jarvis talk about the creation of the game and his other work on the podcast mentioned earlier in this thread. If you haven't listened yet, it is worth checking out. 30 plus years later, i am still amazed at how smoothly the arcade defender game plays. Also, I want to thank Globeron for the tip and video on how to use a classic controller with emulation. I ordered a joystick-usb device yesterday and should have it in the near future. Next video I take should be in emulation instead of over my shoulder playing on my real TI. I think I missed a few smart bombs (instead hitting hyperspace) during my 1 hour plus video because the tripod was in the best seat. I was sitting off to the side. I blame that on holding me back from 1,000,000. haha Well Misapf, it is time for me to pay up. Please send me your address and I will put your awesome prize in the mail. I also believe it is your turn to pick a game for July!
  13. Here is my last one also. This is a video. My camera maximum mp4 length appears to be one hour. so it is split into two. I didn't match the times I have gone over 1,000,000, but this one is close.
  14. I agree. I can't score nearly as well with my PS3 style joystick in emulation compared with real joystick on real TI. Your iPad post did give me inspiration to try out gaming on my iPad though! Hadn't tried JS99er before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I'm not eligible! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Just a couple of days left until July 1. Here is where we stand: Mizapf 124950 Sometimes99er 28700 Digdugnate 22500 Sinphaltimus 6500 Globeron 750 Thanks for all those who have played so far. Maybe there are some more out there that want to share a score? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Yes the game was not over. I was playing on a real TI-99/4a with F18A and a Slik Stik joystick. I grabbed my cell phone with one hand and clicked off several pictures. Since the score blinks, most of the time I got a blank score. That pic caught the score. My end score on that game was just over 1million. The waves keep incrementing, but the score starts over at zero. As for a new video clip...I could do that. it would be quite long though! We do have two weeks remaining in the month, I may give that a try.
  18. It was approximately wave 71. Yes it does roll over at 1 million. First time I did it, I didn't take any pictures till it rolled over.
  19. Talk about timely! Check this out! Defender: The Story of an Arcade Legend With Eugene Jarvis - The Retro Hour EP75 by The Retro Hour (Retro Gaming Podcast) https://player.fm/1lGXTG Post your scores! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Did you know? Some defender strategists recommend killing most of your humans on purpose to make it easier to defend the remaining few...
  21. Did you know? Competitive scoring for Defender first began when Mario Suarez from Atlantic City played Defender for over 21 and half hours in 1982 at the Claridge Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. The game later became the focus of the first Twin Galaxies video game contest in which players in 32 cities simultaneously competed on the weekend of April 3–4, 1982. Rick Smith won the contest with a score of 33,013,200 which took 38 hours. Has to make you wonder how the basic necessities were taken care of during that 38 hours.....
  22. A video of the game play! That's awesome! I had to try it. Playing with an emulator (Classic99), and recording with the Xbox app built into Windows 10. Uploaded to YouTube. I hope this works!
  23. Awesome scores! Breaking 100k! Did you know? Atarisoft was a brand name used by Atari, Inc in 1983 and 1984 to market video games they published for home systems made by their competitors. Each platform had a specific color attributed by Atarisoft for its game packages. For example, video games sold for the Commodore 64 came up in green packages, games for the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A in yellow, games for the IBM PC in blue, and so on. Despite being in existence for less than two years, Atarisoft had a huge video game library with dozens of game versions being released for various home computers and consoles. Almost all of the Atarisoft titles were produced by third-party software companies, as Atari only developed for their own systems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Did you know? Defender eventually became Williams' best selling arcade game, with over 55,000 units sold worldwide. By 2004, the game was a popular collector's item; the upright cabinets were common, while the cocktail models were more rare. Since its release, it has become one of the highest grossing arcade games ever, earning over US$1 billion Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
