  1. This is strange, I got the e-mail from shells.com domain: computer generated:

CHAD SCHELL of SCHELL'S ELECTRONICS sent Tom ******

    a FedEx Express Saver Package.

but I hit the link and the FedEx site says number is unknown.

Well I hope I get this today (and before my wife sees it) :D

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Chad,

I would be glad to have you except my java version of the menu generate code to add to your until's page.

They can be found at this page.

  2. 2. There are 2 different entries for Asteroids in the CC2ROMDB.TXT and this program will report one more rom file then it actually got.  I can't believe that there are two roms.

Huh? But there really are two different versions of Asteroids. One with the copyright at startup, and one without.

Yes, but I don't know English! What I wanted to say was:

CC2ROMDB.TXT has both versions of 2600 Asteroid ROMs going to the same output name "ASTEROID.BIN" and when you have both versions in the input area, the program will get to the second one and then over write the first's ASTEROID.BIN file with the seconds information and think it has two rom's instead of just one.

A solution would be to change the CC2ROMDB.TXT and have one go to ASTEROID.BIN and the other go to ASTERDCR.BIN or I can change my program to just output one.

  3. If someone can run this on a MAC, that would be nice.

If some CC2s would get assembled and shipped, maybe more people could try it out. (Yeah, I know, we're waiting on the board assembly place right now, and they're busy.)

Well anyone can create a MMC card or the file structure on your computer to get ready for the CC2. I was thinking ppl could try making these now, instead of waiting last minute that way we will know the problems sooner.

  4. I created the menu generate in Java at here:

    http://www.geocities.com/mot505/CC2MenuGen.html

    Things to note:

    1. CRC 32 is not the same in the CC2ROMDB.TXT compared to the CRC in the winzip util. So I could not use the built in java code to compute.

    3. And of course: use at your own risk.

  5. Dan Boris thank you for all the work you have done. You have been around sence the start of MAME at least (what about 1995ish) and you seem to be always doing something. I have a few questions for you:

Q: Why is this emu separate from MESS?

Q: Is MESS still going strong?

Q: Will MESS get these changes?

    Thanks.

The reason you need to encrypt the programs is that, as designed, the 7800 required a valid 960-bit digital signature generated by Atari before a native 7800 game (as opposed to a 2600 game) would run on the 7800; no digital signature, no Maria chip. Also, crypto export restrictions (960 bits are a lot even for military-quality crypto) are probably the reason that European 7800 consoles and games have no digital signature.

So I will not be able to play PAL ROMs on my 7800 with CC2 because they have no didgital signature required by my NTSC 7800 or did someone add the signature to the roms?

    Atari 7800

    ----------

Mostly incompatible. The majority of NTSC 7800 cartridges will

not work in a PAL 7800, typically just hanging the system. However

I have found that some will work in a fashion (nomally with corrupted

graphics, or locking up partway through a game).

% The PAL 7800 models were redesigned for the European market, as the

% US 7800 uses a non-exportable security encryption system to stop

    % non Atari-approved game development.

  8. I just looked and found that Tank Command is a 7, that means I actually have a 7

    Woo-hoo! :)

So I guess, I did good at picking this up for $5 and some Water Ski carts because they where 6 rarity at the time and now 4

  9. RAM was probably expensive back then.

Yes it was. I have no reference to how much memory cost back then, but I do know back around '92-93 when I upgraded my chachine w/2MB of RAM it costs me about $200.00 so 10-15 year before then I'm sure it was expensive for 4k, etc as well.

    I found this:

Also, it would have cost $10,000 to make a new mask for the ROM in the cartridge. So what happened was that Atari left the secret room in the game.

This quote is about Adventure a 4K game!

    This is at:http://www.toadstool.net/games/adventure/i.../interview1.htm

  10. Now, it came with an Atari-branded 10VAC, 750mA AC adapter, but I tried another one -- a newer known-working Atari-branded 9VAC/500mA. Same thing. I tried a universal 300mA adapter set to 9V/tip positive. Same thing again. No change with 12V or tip negative.

I could be wrong here but I thought putting 12V into something desighned to use 10V is a bad thing!

But I know you electronic geniuses will have more info.

  11. I thought I basically understood it that the 7800 would probably not have any logics really being used, and would really only be used as a large RF output device for the LD player.

I wonder if they would use it to overlay the score and other "changing" on screen information? That information doesn't require hi-res graphics. The Laseractive does something similar to this.

    Tempest

This makes me think of the arcade game Fire Fox that had sky seens from the video disk and the computer put the game part on top (F-15's).

Do you think that this is what they were thinking?

  12. I was at the post office Thursday night and said this has to get to Tucson by Friday and she said the $13 guaranteed to get there but express mail is 2-3 days and is ~ $3.50. So, I told her express mail and she like “are you sure, you don’t want the guaranteed…”. 2-3 days leaving on Thursday and she was implying that it would not get there. Was she trying to up the price? At the post office?

Chad, there is a 5% chance that you will not get the check by Friday.
