Hello everyone, I just recieved an amiga 500 computer for the 1st time and was curious about something. I had done a little bit of reading about the system after I got it and thought I should load up workbench and see if it works. So i got that loaded but dont have a mouse and so I used the Amiga key and arrow keys to movr the cursor and that works well enough. I had read about a joystick being able to be used as a mouse and so i plugged one in and it only really moves diagonally if circle the dpad kind of like the ball on the bottom of a mouse. Holding a direction makes the cursor not move other then 1 pixel up or left, while typing this i assume that it is because the ball is probably moving some rods in the mouse at the same time and giving two values? Hence why moving the joystick quickly Like a circle works somewhat? Would this be the case, in that only a mouse in port 1 will nove the cursor appropriately. I tried joystick port 2 and got no response until i fired up tank platoon and can use joystick 2 to play the tank like a normal game. All help is appreciated as always! Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, just got an extra adam console portion only, no drives in it or anything, and when I power it on the screen is just black and a loud hum, sometimes no hum. Power supply was tested and works on my functioning adam. I tried a working cassette drive in the broken adam and it spins if you hold the center plunger in with a tape, but resetting doesn't get the tape or spin normally. Keyboard plugged in does get a red light, but typing does not get the printer to print any characters. Resetting the ColecoVision portion also does nothing, except that it makes the hum go away sometimes as well, inserting a cartridge doesn't bring up the game nor does having nothing in the slot. Tried all three video ports, rf, monitor and aux, all give a black screen. Just wondering if it is fixable at all or if reseating the chips on the bottom adam board will have any affect. Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

C2N C64 Datasette Drive Not Working
INTVCruise replied to INTVCruise's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Hi, thank you for the reply. I have opened the machine up and replaced the belts. It looks clean inside, though someone was in before me as the player had 1 screw missing in the bottom. Nothing looked to be out of place but i didnt really try checking any cables to see if they were loose. The plug end looks to be in good shape. There is a screw and i did open it up. I noticed that the thick wire pops out of the back of the case so perhaps someone pulled on it a long time ago? I will upload some pictures when I get home later today. -
Hello everyone, I received a Datasette that doesn't want to play any tapes. Originally when i plugged it in it didn't look like it was receiving any power as pressing Fast forward or rewind did nothing while plugged into the commodore. Moving the plg seemed to have gotten it going. Anyways, when it is plugged in and actually functioning it doesn't read any tape games. I have another fully working casette drive so I know the C64 itself isn't the issue. I read about aligning the head on the casette drive through the small hole on the top. So i burned a casette aligner program to disk and booted the C64. On the good casette drive, two thick black lines go across the screen from top to bottom as the tape plays, i assume this is the data. On the broken cassette drive, there is only one line all the way to the left of the screen, it does not produce the same two black lines as the working drive. I tried adjusting the head but there was zero change. I would like some input on what may not be working, i suspect it is the cable plug but wanted input here. Thanks in advance everyone!

Commodore 64 Floppy Drive alternatives
INTVCruise replied to INTVCruise's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Hello carlsson, thank you for clearing all of that up, much appreciated. Just want to be 100% sure... So if I am just looking to copy d64 programs from pc to floppy disk and play the copied floppy on the original drive then the zoomfloppy would be more than enough to do so. Thanks again! -
Hello everyone, I just got a nice working c128 with the 1571 disc drive with a bunch of discs amd I was looking into information about backing the discs up and what not. While searching i came across the altenatives to the drive including the sd2cei and the zoomfloopy. Right now im leaning towards the zoom floppy moreso because I cant seem to find anyone in the us selling the sd2cei, and the zoom floppy looks to be available in the usa. My question is if im looking to copy d64 files to floppy from thw zoom floppy to the actual 1571 will that be possible? Thanks to all!

Hello everyone, I have a 7800 that runs for a few minutes and then shuts off, with both 2600 and 7800 games. I tested it with two power supplies and the same result with each. What I want to know is if it could be the 7800 itself or would it be the power adapters that are at fault? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I just received a non functional ColecoVision that I have no idea what to do next. There is no video output or sound, when I flick the power switch the static on the television screen chances a tad bit so it looks like it is receiving power, but I really am not sure. Here is a picture of the screen displayed. It was tested with a known working power supply and video and audio cables. The rf box has a lot of broken solder joints so I went in and applied solder, but there was 0 or very little chance at all. Both channels were tried, 3 and 4, no difference. Also tired cleaning and reflowing the power switch with solder, but no effect at all either. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
-
Hello, thank you this was exactly the problem, I replaced both of the clear caps with ones from an Atari 2600 and the sound is normal again! Thank you for your suggestion!
-
Hello mitch, yes after I replaced the first non working one, I soldered the new one in place and the sound came on, but low. I tried tuning the coil with the wrench very slightly and the sound only got worse, it became sort of statiky, on the third one that is in place now I have not tried tuning it and the static is gone. Just low sound once again. Thanks again Mitch for al of your help!
-
Hey mitch, appreciate the help sir. No the console was never modded. It used to have no sound, then replaced the red coil and there was sound but it is unusually low. I have a few systems I could switch out the parts between and my soldering skills are fine, so if you have a recommendation of what to try I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Hello everyone, I have an Atari 7800 that is fully functioning except that the sound output seems to be a bit low. The games all play the appropriate music/sound effects but only when the volume is at about 50/100. On my good 7800, 20/100 produces the same level of sound. Increasing the volume past 50/100 doesn't do much to improve the sound level. I have replaced the red plastic with copper coil twice, but the result is the same. Not sure if it is a chip causing this or some capacitor or something. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you all!

Hi, i dont think he does but he mentioned that at first he was able to play just fine then the picture gave out all of a sudden and just got weaker amd weaker until nothong but static displayed. Hope thks may help.

Hello, thank you very much for the reply! I do have a bunch of spare parts lying around that I can give my friend, just not sure exactly what capacitor it may be or how to test and he lives kind of far away to just do a bunch of part swapping. Do you know what the mulitmeter should be set to to test for capacitance, I'm pretty sure he has one lf those but I've never used one for that. Thanks again.

Hello everyone, trying to help a friend get their Atari working again. Their Atari seems to work very intermittently. Powering it on seems to work for a short period before the screen goes dark and no longer wants to play anymore. We've tried swapping all three chips to see if one of them may have been going bad, as well as change out the power regulator but nothing seems to be fixing it completely. If anybody has any suggestions to try I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you to everyone who reads and responds to this!

Oops lol, uploaded the wrong link, yeah I don't like waiting a month either haha, found a source in the U.S., just wanted to be sure that was the right chip. Thank you again.

Hello ChildOfCv, appreciate your insight, I have one more 7800 with a small problem, the flip flop chip is dead and I need a replacement, just wanted to be sure if the following chip is suitable. Thank you! https://www.ebay.com/itm/5PCS-MC14013BCP-Dual-Type-D-Flip-Flop-new/123332810857?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40719%26meid%3Ddd609168794548f691e9808a4dd523ac%26pid%3D100227%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D7%26sd%3D121407314080%26itm%3D123332810857%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2053904&_trksid=p2053904.c100227.m3827

Hey ChildOfCv, just replaced the little red cylindered frequency thing! Works like a charm! Thank you for your help, honestly I didn't know if that was it or not since it looked like it was in good condition upon inspection, repair literally took 30 seconds haha. I have a heavy sixer that had no sound too, looks like this might be the fix. God bless you sir!
-
Hello, on the 200 AC V setting they read at 10.0 each.
-
Not sure how visible it is but the little red cylindar definitly had some small chunks of grey and I flipped it over to spill them out. The grey cylindar still spins
-
Also I do have a multimeter, where would c5 be sorry for my ignorance.

Hello, just tried the cinsole on a new tv. Its making looooouuud static. Also yes it is crumbling inside, should I replace that piece? Would a 2600 one work the same way?
-
Hello, I believe so, I have a second properly working 7800 that work runs fine on the current television settings. Could the fact that I'm using a plasma television affect the results at all? All games play just fine, 2600 and 7800, there's just no sound at all, no hum, no static no anything.
-
Hello, the console has not been av modded, there is no static hiss or anything at all. It is completly silent.
