This needs to be done on the DS
Jim
Good. Find a DS developer to do it.

spam.
This is the first time I posted a link to this type of auction in this Atari 7800 forum. It's a news-worthy item. Before I was only using it for myself but this is first time I got a few made to make it available for others.
You registered a week ago, so you could post this spam.

Great. Now I just need to get a PSP...
Is there a DS version?

I wouldn't know. I don't own a DS.

Zx-81, king of the PSP emulation coding, has ported Stella to the Sony PSP.

This guy is a PSP coding King. He just released an initial beta of a Stella port, PSP2600, but he's also done the 7800 just recently and the 5200/800xl a while back.

Sorry 'bout that.
Here's Zx-81's website:

You'll notice, this release is on the first page.

Here is the final version: PSP7800 v. 1.0.4:
http://forums.qj.net/f-zx-81s-homebrew-rel...lity-91052.html
This is now fully compatible with all roms. In fact, it's the ONLY 7800 emulator that allows you to play One on One correctly, since you can set the FPS limit to 30 fps, which brings the shot clock down to the normal speed.

Danno -- that was a nice summary. All the PSX2PSP tools we're using are legal to distribute, but to be functional, they all rely upon the "stolen" golf ROM and hacked keys.
It's really a shame Sony has chosen the closed-system route yet again. I suspect there's not much overlap between PS3 buyers and PS1 enthusiasts. IMHO they really missed an opportunity for legit revenue by making the PS1 games available for a small cost. Now, they get nothing because of piracy in response to their locked-down system.
Actually, most of the newer conversion tools come with a stripped down BASE.pbp file that doesn't contain any of the actual Hot Shots game at all, and it's 1.3 megs, as opposed to 164MB.
-
My understanding is that the Playstation emulator and game are all packed into a single file, called EBOOT.PBP. I don't think the emulator is built into the firmware, although I could be wrong about this.
JR
Wrong.
The Eboot.pbp file is nothing more than a PSX ISO file with some wrapper/header info allowing the emulator in the firmware to read it properly.
The firmware in the Flash0 location of your PSP contains 3 files, POPS.prx, POPman.prx, and POPCORN.prx (hehe) which comprise teh Playstation On PSP (POP) emulator.
In the official Sony Firmware, one must purchase and download the POPs games from the Playstation Store Online, using their newly created account from their PS3. This CANNOT be done just by going to their website, You MUST own a PS3 to purchase and download these games to your PSP. When you download them to your PSP, a license file is then generated unique to your PSP, allowing you to use it. (Nice racket, huh?)
Dark Alex's Hacked version of Sony's Firmware 3.03, codenamed 3.03OE (Open Edition) allows one to use generic keys files based on the Hot Shots Golf download from the Ps3 store, and create custom EBOOT.pbp and Keys.bin files from ANY PSX ISO, allowing you to run virtually any existing PSX game on the PSP, fullspeed, fullscreen.
The catch?
Your PSP needs to be running Firmware version 1.50 to be able to upgrade to 3.03OE. If you're running any version 1.51 through 2.80, you must downgrade your PSP (using one of the Downgraders Dark Alex has also concocted) to version 1.50 then use the Custom Firmware Updating tools to upgrade your PSP to 3.03OE.
If your PSP is currently running Official Sony firmware 2.81 or higher, you're basically Shit out of luck, as they say. At least, for the moment anyway.

DosBox plus the front end D-Fend.
-
That was it.
He's got it working properly in the PSP port. compatibility is now the exact same as the Windows version. I'll make a new topic when it available for public release.

So, after poking around in the source code, I can't really find where it's supposed to call out the Prosystem.dat file to get the proper rom info.
Where is this done, so I can try to apply it to the PSP port?
You're right though. in the Windows port, if the Prosystem.dat file isn't in the same directory as the prosystem.exe, I get the exact same compatibility errors. This SHOULD be an easy fix.
-
Which is strange, considering Greg's original Windows version runs them just fine. I wonder it the bugs were sorted out with the windows display code vs. the emulator core...?
-
How's the compatibility on the linux boxes?
Is it running Ninja Golf, Mean 18, Ace of Aces, or Kung-Fu Master correctly?
The PSP port taht Zx-81 did has some spotty compatibility problems, and if this one doesn't, it might be easier to port from a Linux port than the conversion he made from Windows.

It's already up to version 1.0.3 with another on the way. See my other thread below.

Updated Release, With Sound and Screen Res options:
http://forums.qj.net/f-zx-81s-homebrew-rel...v102-90187.html
Final Version coming soon, which fixes the few games that are broken, and possibly the scratchy sound issue in some games.

Released!
http://forums.qj.net/f-zx-81s-homebrew-rel...v101-89998.html
Still a work in progress, no sound, or other screen render modes (it's at the default 320x240 centered for now) but the emulation is EXACT as with Prosystem on the PC.
I need the alternate palette files to give to him, as the source still had the old ones..
-
Board got a little messed up today, eh?
anyway, like I tried to post earlier:
http://forums.qj.net/f-zx-81s-homebrew-rel...tml#post1318955
Zx-81 is currently porting Greg Stanton's Prosystem Emulator to the Sony PSP, at my request. This guy ported a number of great Emulators to the PSP, and all of them are top notch.
Any takers on Beta testing this on their PSP?
Any chance he could port it to the Cube\Wii? Also thats awesome you got him to port it to the PSP. Every system needs 7800 love!!

I don't know if he works on Nintendo stuff. I'm not much of a Nintendo fan, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to look.

As soon as I get a working beta, I'll Pm you.
-
Also - I don't consider my "fix" to be an alteration at all. Atari made a MISTAKE in their manufacturing of the later models of the 7800, that didn't allow some 2600 carts to fit properly.
My suggestion fixes that mistake. It's not adding or changing anything. It's a correction to Atari's shoddy manufacturing habits.
The fact that it costs absolutely nothing, and takes no time or technical ability at all is merely a plus.
-
$45 for something that takes all of 30 seconds to fix for free.
Amazing.

So you think you can make this "fix cart" as you put it in 30 seconds? Go gett'em tiger. And yes I know you where talking about the connector on the inside of the console but as each person has clearly stated they don't want to alter the 7800 console, your statment is ill founded.
I wouldn't try to rip off the 7800 community with some bullshit piece of extension hardware taht's unnecessary.
It's amazing how many vultures there are in the Retro gaming scene.
Obviously you can't read. I made the one for dusk for FREE and the only reason I said $45 was to keep anyone from asking me to make them one. I even said that straight out. Your such a bitch Danno, go play somewhere else.
I come here to help people. Lot's of people come here to rip people off. If you said that to dissuade people from asking you to make them, fine, I understand. But there ARE a lot of Vultures in this scene.
Personally, I would have just said "I can't make anymore."
