  1. Are you using a Windowblinds/theme skinning program or a "Dock" shortcut bar like object dock? Some of them don't play nicely with SDL dependant programs like z26.
  2. That has nothing to do with the problem. It is a technical issue as I have mentioned above. The resistor mod has nothing to do with Pitfall II. Never has. The Activision games that are problematic for a scant few 7800's due to the timing resistor Atari put in for 2600 Dark Caverns are Robot Tank, Space Shuttle, and The Activision Decathlon. Pitfall II frequently has a cartridge seating problem on the 7800 though. Especially on the later "cheaper" 7800's that used a more narrow cartridge cup/mobo-sheild.
  3. Same here. Actually, it becomes a lot less frequent after you get one frog to the top, as well. Either way, Much like the Mrs. Pac-Man Hack into the varying versions of Pac-Man, and Beef Drop, yet another absolutely stellar Arcade Port for the 7800.
  4. The every 5 seconds flicker/screen refresh jump is very much still there on the cc2.
  5. You are 100% wrong! So are you going to ban me or not?
  6. You're the one who doesn't seem to"get it." The reason people are replying to you the way they are is that you keep throwing around insults. People react to insults. If you cannot make an argument without throwing around insults, you may soon find you no longer have the ability to post here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but before I uttered any insult, you made a post that seemed to indicate that my opinion was not valid, simply because I disagreed with you and "everyone else here". So insults are a no-no, but subtle intimidation and wolfpack mentality is ok? Tell you what - you want to ban me? Ban me. But if you're going to do it just because I "insulted" someone, then you might want to review this thread a bit. Zylonbane and a number of others did the exact same thing.
  7. I would imagine it's not that people don't like it, rather it's the fact that there are so few really good games on the platform. The ratio of great:good:bad games is heavily in favor of bad IMHO. I love my 7800, primarily because it has a couple of great arcade ports and it says ATARI on the label. If it didn't say Atari on it, it would probably sit there collecting dust like my Intellivision. Oh, and to be fair, my NES has a nice collection of dust on it too. The only systems I currently play alot are my 5200, 7800 (2600), and XBox On a side note... Danno, why is it that many/most of the 7800 threads that I see you post in turn into giant flame wars? It's almost like I can gurantee that when you post in the 7800 forum, there is going to be a giant argument between you and one or two others... I would agure that the ratio is probably the same for every system available, and that 7800 was more hampered by such a small library. Out of the 4,000 or so titles available for the NES, is the ratio of good:suck really any higher? I think not. But you do make a good point. As for the Other question, well, I've been around here for quite a while. Typically I just read. Occasionally, I'll post. But as I said, the tone in the 7800 has been very negative for some time now. I like the 7800, which is why I come here. So when I see that this forum has become just a bunch of people tearing it to shreds undeservedly (in my opinoin) then I will occasionally post about it. I just tend not to pull any punches. Some people don't like being confronted with opposing opinions. That's not going to stop me from offering them.
  8. I like Galaga on the 7800. I know that the aspect ratio isn't exactly the same as the arcade, nor are the Graphics and Gameplay 100% faithful either. That doesn't change my enjoyment of the game. Honestly, I like the 7800 version better than the Arcade version. And If I wanted to play the Arcade version, I'd just fire up MAME, not bring up some dodgy, childish comparison to the NES version. The NES version is far superior to the 7800 version. There's nothing dodgy or childish about it. I do not like the NES and can see that. Superior how? Because the sprites flicker constantly? More faithful to the arcade version, sure. Superior is a measure of opinion. I said I LIKE the 7800 version better than even the Arcade. So even if the NES version is more faithfully accurate to the Arcade version, that doesn't make it Superior to me, especially to someone who doesn't much care for the Arcade version either. Good for you. As someone who used to put in 50 cents to the arcade machine instead of 25 cents so that I could play from the player two position so my score wouldn't flip at 1 million, I can say with 100% certainty that as far as I am concerned, the 7800 version sucked and after revisiting it last night after reading your comments about the NES in this thead am still convinced of that. The NES version was much more faithful to the arcade version and therefore a superior port. You calling the comparison childish and dodgy does not change that fact. Great. So your opinions are superior to mine. Jackass. Wow. What a strong counter-argument you make. You're only problem is with yourself and your inability to back up what was in the eyes of everyone else here, including hardcore 7800 fans, an absurd statement. Calling me names merely weakens your argument further. I like the 7800 version of the game Galaga. You don't. Neither of us are wrong. There's nothing to be backed up. If you made the statement that the NES Galaga port is more accurate to the Arcade version, I would agree. That's not going to make me like or dislike it any more or less. What part of this aren't you getting?

  10. It's all just videogame conversation man. Nothing to get all worked up about. Seems natural to me to compare different versions of the same game, especially those that were on competing systems. I know it's just coversation. Trust me, I'm laughing my ass off at this silliness. I just find it funny that the conversation in the 7800 forum is so overwhelmingly negative so often about nearly everything to do with the 7800, and it's mostly coming from NES fans who seem to not be able to let go of arguments they had when they were 12. I come here to read and talk about Atari games. There are other sub forums for other systems. If I wanted to talk about other systems, I'd go elsewhere. Am I the only one who finds it curious that the 7800 forum is generally dominated by people who clearly didn't like the 7800 at all? Seems like some pretty fucked up sociopathy that drives someone to troll a classic video game forum to dredge up 20 year old middle school arguments.

  13. I still don't understand why on an ATARI website in an ATARI 7800 forum, in a thread praising a 7800 game, a bunch of nitwits who like to argue about "The NES is always better" come in and start masturbating about Fat Plumbers and Mushrooms. Seriously, why not just go to a NES Forum on another site to talk about how much better you like the NES, and stop being a bunch of nitpicking morons?
  14. the aspect ratio of EVERY 7800 port is different.
  15. Nintendo's stuff always stuck me as shoddy workmanship, rushed, poorly executed, flickering, pukey earth tone colored, kidsy garbage.
  16. I like Galaga on the 7800. But then, I hate the NES and think it's a steaming pile of crap.
  17. Actually, none of those options will work without either building an adapter to compensate for the retarded resistor laden fire button scheme in the 7800 prosticks, or rewiring the Prosticks themselves to use independant fire buttons and take out the foolish and circuit the resistors make. I'd recommend using the ppjoy drivers and rewiring a prostick to use independant fire buttons. It's actually pretty easy to do and doesn't require an soldering.
  18. Agreed. OSG is a pleasure to do business with. 8bitdomain, not so much. How much does OSG charge for a complete 7800 mod? I'd like to do one, but don't have the patience to buildone from scratch, and don't want to risk throwing away $40 after all teh horror stories about 8-bitdomains shipping/delivery issues.
  19. Use JoytoKey, and map your keyboard to your joystick. Funny - the author kind of dropped Prosystem here, and left, almost liek he was pissed off about it. basically saying something along the lines of "don't bother me with issues or updates or other things you'd like to see."
  20. Neither do I, Bob. Just wanted to make it clear that what was being suggested is in no way correct or applicable. I would love to see you be able to produce and disribute your work, as it is FANTASTIC work, but the harsh reality of living in these Lawsuit-happy times we are just won't allow it to happen. And I certainly would want to see any harm come your way because you followed bad advice. Thankfully, I can enjoy your work on my CC2, so the "need" for a cart isn't there, although I'd love to add a professionally produced Pac-Man 7800 cart to my collection. But not at the expense of making you go bankrupt or incarcerated. I'm not that selfish.
  21. That's not how it works. Not even close. It would be nice if it did, but it doesn't. If you don't have a licensing agreement for a particular property, software, likeness or reasonable facsimile thereof, you are not allowed to reproduce or distribute ANY materials containing said copywritten and/or trademarked licensed media, be it game software, television, movies, etc. Period. It's not a matter of profit. He could be sued by Namco just for using the the Pac-Man names, similar coding, and likenesses in his hacked rom that is being distributed for free, if Namco chose to do so. PMP doesn't have a License to reproduce or distribute ANY form of Pac-Man, Mrs. Pac-Man or other Namco licenses, for profit, or for loss. Namco wouldn't care if you ACTUALLY made money on their licenses. It's whether you could POTENTIALLY profit from them where their license enforcement begins, if they so chose to pursue you for infringement. Shadow, stick to running the Hi-Score forum and talking about your favorite games. You're clearly good at that, but you really don't know the first thing about copyright and trademark license law. That being said, I'd love to buy one. Fuck Namco. They've made their money 1,000 fold.
  22. AFAIK, Sega Master System and Sega Genesis/Megadrive units aren't region specific. I have a MAster System at home taht is unmodified, and it plays UK carts just fine. From What I've read the Genesis is the same.
  23. When I first got into MAME, one of the things I loved was the Defender controls cheat that let you use the joystick for all 4 directions of movement, instead of the stick for up/down and thrust for left/right movement. But somewhere around ver .86 - .88 it was removed when they converted the controls setup in the source files and never put back in. Do any of the Non-standard builds still incorporate this cheat?
  24. Does anyone have the rom for that Spy Hunter 5200 Cart? I'm interested in checking it out.
  25. Chris was a great salesman, and he had a great selection of stuff for every system at really decent prices. Looks like his site got hijacked by Al-Qaida: http://www.vintagefunworld.com
