Making the controller the input on ProSystem Emu
Danno replied to JMFabiano524's topic in Atari 7800
Z & X Oh, and the program is called Joy2key. -
It's not so much flicker that bugs me as flicker is par for the course for some games (even if this one is not intended to have flicker) Its when the damn thing crashes that gets me pissed. It's such an awsome game, but thats why it's called a WIP and not a 1.0 Keep up the great work dude, "Froggie" keeps looking better and better. It's not flicker like sprite flicker or some artifacting, the whole screens jumps and resets every 5 seconds.

%!?*%#! ... Sorry it worked good with ProSystem Emu. The updated version also runs on the real thing Bad news. Flicker problem is still there on real hardware. Is it just flicker or does it crash too? I had problems with craching with the older version on top of the flicker. Ididnt' even get that far. The flicker makes me turn it off immediately.

Just curious about this... I did a search and found where there was an issue with using Windowblinds with SDL. Not sure which is at fault, but was wondering if you were able to confirm this. Thanks, Brian Confirmed it. When you disable Windowblinds, it runs fine. It also runs fine in Compatibility mode set for Windows 2000 (because it doesn't use the skinning feature.

Speaking of which - does anyone know how to change the palette for Prosystem? It takes ".pal" files for palette adjustment, but I have yet to figure out how to use them, or where to find them.
-
If you tack on the cost of a USB cable that it doesn't come with, and the shipping charges, you're looking at over $40 easy.
-
I also have XP SP2 as well and haven't seen it. I'll try to look into that problem, it may be an SDL issue. I'm assuming the SDL.dll being used is the one in the kat5200 program directory. Thanks for your comments, Brian It might be something with Windowblinds (Windows XP Theme/Shell editor) too. I'll have to try disabling that tonight.

As far as I can find, yeah, they're all PAL. But even when you use a PAL color palette, there's still something amiss. Does ANYONE have an NTSC dump of Pitfall! for the 5200? Great EMU by the way. Best game compatibility :: ease of use ratio I've seen for a 5200 Emu. Couple of things I noticed, and/or would like to see: Not sure how to describe it, but many other emus, including Prosystem(7800 emu) and M.E.S.S. make the default display a bit blurred, so that it looks like it's being displayed on a TV, rather than actual pixels. Can this be done? Also - is there a hotkey/combo that allows you to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode? Last - I noticed that in Windows XP SP2, I have to run Kat5200 in Windows Compatibility mode set for Windows 2000 for the windowed mode to appear properly. Without Comp. mode on, the window appears as a top bar just wide enough to display the three window options (expand, minimize, exit) and about 2 pixels worth of emu window. But if you minimize it, and then restore it, it displays fine. Not that I have a problem running in compatibility mode, It's not a problem. But I'm sure there are people out there who won't be able to figure that one out.

is there a working Pitfall! 5200 NTSC dump anywhere out there? Why must poor Pitfall harry have that awful blue mowhawk?

attached are the corrected default.xml and bright.xml palette files. the order of the colors was off by an entire bit. colors 10 through 1f needed to be switched with colors f0 through ff. An example of the problem is evident if you watch the order of colors in the Atari Logo Color bar from the 5200 startup BIOS, or more specifically - the color of the ground in Pitfall II the Lost Caverns. In the original palettes the ground was a sort of greenish brown. Now it is the proper gold-brown. default.xml bright.xml

There is. The CC2 comes with a menu generator that will find and create menus for nearly every game in existence, barring some of the newer homebrews that came out after it's initial release. Also - the java menu create posted right on this board makes it easy to create custom multiple menus, provided you've upgraded your CC2 O/S to the latest version (which was posted by Chad himself). It's all here. You just need to use the search feature instead of begging other people to make it easy for you. I have my CC2 using multiple menus, and I have every single working rom in existence on it. I don't put the overdumps or the bad dumps because they are redundant. Finding the ROMS is actually pretty easy. But yeah - there are a ton that would become a legal hassle for Atariage.com if posted here, so for obvious reasons, they aren't. But they can be found very easily.
-
I have a main menu, that links to various sub-menus. One is by company, all games. One is all games, alphabetical. One is 7800 Games only. One is 2600 Games only. And one is just the Activision games (my favorites on the 2600).

The NES sold more, due to better/more marketing but that's the only advantage it had. The SMS was clearly a better machine in every sense, graphically, audibly, and complexity of games. NES was a cheap redux of Colecovision. Flickering graphics, terrible sound, and too damn many horrible games. Oh yeah - and after about 2 months of use, you needed to use a cleaning kit on it every time you used it just to get it to start.

Anybody who gets persnickety about helping with a cuttle cart 2 should be throttled with a dull Butterknife for 36 hours straight. The CC2, and all of the "difficult configuration" (LOL it's got to be one of the easiest devices I've ever setup) shuld be a labor of love for anyone who spent the time. I have a pretty well customized CC2 with pretty much every available rom, including most of the homebrews, and would have no problem helping anyone set their's up. Seems like there's a ton of crooks/sharks who circle this site looking for ways to rip off their fellow Atarians. Sad, really.

Grand RE-opening of www.ElectricQuarter.com part 2
Danno replied to Sylentwulf's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Just to pour salt on an almost closed wound - I had a peek at the google cached version of the Electric Quarter website from just before the argument with Shawn on here cropped up. It seems the disclaimer about shipping costs and refunds and return policies DID NOT exist on said website before this argument cropped up. there were no comments anywhere about shipping costs not being covered. You can try to pull a fast one, but the internet doesn't let you lie. Now back to your regularly scheduled felchery..... -
It is a poor man who's only sales tactic that keeps him out of the red is to grossly inflate handling fees. "Competitive" ebay sellers are the ones who push high volume of their products, not the ones who nickel and dime customers and gouge them on shipping. If jacking up shipping charges to justify your inability to correctly market your products (This is where you might think having an accurate product description might be usefull) is the key to success for you, then you might want to look into another line of work.
-
Well, after looking at the website, which has probably been updated due to this whole fiasco, their policies are now clear: But I do love the highlighted line. It basically tells you up front, "we're going to hose you on shipping", and then continues on with "and if you're not happy with it, go eff yourself, loser." You would think that with a 700% shipping markup, shipping might be covered if they send you a defective item. I for one, thank Shawn, et. al. for allowing me to make up my own mind abotu purchasing anything from this vendor.
-
It's not slander if you're pointing out the truth. Slander would be lies. Everything Shawn and others have stated about the ElectricQuarter's advertising and customer service was 100% truth, and SylentWulf hasn't refuted that. He's just a little annoyed that someone called him out on shoddy customer service, and shipping price gouging. Inflating shipping costs by 700% is not an example of someone who is an "asset to our classic gaming community". It's an example of a shark feeding at the soft white underbelly of a few nostalic gamers and collectors. So is someone not accurately describing what they are selling. This is no better or worse than the 100 a day threads pointing out poorly worded or incorrectly labeled Ebay Auctions in the Auctions forum. The only difference is, the guy came here and got owned on his lack of knowledge and poor business practices. Part of having this forum is the ability to protect one another from scam artists and sharks like this.

All Atari Products (and pretty much all NTSC game consoles) transmit their signal on VHF channels 3-4. I've never seen a games console use UHF ever.
-
I've often wondered about this too. I know the only way would be to use one of the paddle inputs, instead of this weird AND gate, but when the 7800 is usign a 7800 Cart that has Joystick controls using 2 buttons, the pins for the paddles aren't being used, so they are free. right? And there aren't any 2 button paddle games, so when playing a paddle game - obviously the pins are being used for the paddle.
-
Ok, as much as I might want to add an S-Video out to my 7800, Do I really need to jump in the sack with this guy to get him to ship his mod?
-
Plenty of people come here and make posts that state "The 7800 IS incompatible with certain 2600 games". That's a myth. There is a very slight chance that you MIGHT get a 2600 cartridge/7800 console combination that might have playability problems. In reality - most problems are due to bad care of the system vs. actual incompatibility issues. It is not a widespread problem. Saying that the system "IS incompatible with certain 2600 games" would indicate that the problem is across the board, with every console. That's just not true. Not even close. I never said YOU stated this. But it's something I've seen repeated on here 1,000 times, and it irks me because it's so few and far between in reality.

It is a great feeling, isn't it? Actually - with your issue with the buttons being on the wrong/uncomfortable side for Commando - with the Proline sticks - that's pretty easily remedied. Just pop them open, and switch the wires on the two fire button PCBs to be opposite of how they are. They aren't soldered, just attached with clips.
