I'm not too keen on the slow down when Pac-man is eating. It's really jumpy on the CC2, almost seems like playing it in an emulator on a PC that's too slow. If I had to choose - I'd say forego the speed change to smooth out the animation if it comes to that. And the Attract Mode looks GREAT!!!

Atari-PC joystick interfaces, great prices!

Are you trying to Sell the PP Joy drivers? Deon's not going to be too happy about that. -
One more quick thing - although it's not gameplay related. - When I got past the first intermission (which looks FANTASTIC, btw.) I noticed that right as the maze appeared again (which would normally be the next maze, light blue) there was a momentary flash of a light blue background. I also notice a bit a of signale bleed on the Screen when it goes from the BIOS to the Title screen I'm not sure if this is the game, or the CC2. But it's not a marjor deal and doesn't interrupt gamepaly at all, so it's not a major deal. I just figured since you're such a perfectionist, I'd see if you noticed these things. But yeah - it is phenominal. I always wondered why Atari never did this one. It's now the BEST home version of Pac-Man, beyond using MAME.

Parker Bros. Popeye is awesome.

Ahh, PMP - no worries. I just noticed it when I checked out the arcade version in mame to look at the Inky color. White is just fine. Looks fantastic, actually. Seems to me - besides the intermission animations, this puppy's just about done. Here's a question - I know you're a Pac-MAn afficianado - but what to you know about Donkey Kong? (My Second Favorite game from the Classic Era) I'm just wondering if we can find a way to hack that missing 4th screen (the Pie Factory) into the 7800 version. Anyone? Bueller?
-
One thing I did notice is that in the Arcade version - "Game Over" appears in Red, not yellow, like the "Ready". Inky is the right color, when compared with the Arcade.

Phil - I'm glad they provided you with good service. I'm sure this was all a big misunderstanding on Both sides. Admittedly, when I order something online and don't hear back on my order status within a week, I tend to get impatient. But unfortunately, this is the price of doing business on the internet. If you burn someone, eventually, it'll come back to you. As I said in my original post, they seemed like polite enough people. And their Prices were pretty darn good. And yes - to their Credit they did refund me the money, after an exchange of emails that nearly mirror this thread. I was more irked about the fact that it took much longer than it should have, but she did apologize for that, sort of. Even with all that, I would have been fine with all of this. But when she tried to accuse me of shipping back a different cart instead of the one she sent me, sorry, but that's where I draw the line. Then she comes here and tries to use attacks of my grammar skill as some sort of proof of what? That's just petty. As far as your offer - it was very kind, but not necessary. I recently bought a Cuttle Cart 2 and am EXTREMELY happy with it, so I can play either Stargate or Defender II (I know, same game) any time. I bought the CC2 basically to avoid confusion like this, or having to deal with the blatent rip-off artists on Ebay.

People - this is absolute crap. I originally emailed them to place an order for these two carts on March 27th. I received an email back asking me to "fill out the order form please" on April 3rd, which I did. And then I waited. and waited. In fact - here's the email Maria sent on April 13th, appologizing for not getting back to me on my order for nearly 2 weeks: I submitted payment on April 13th, the same day I received the email and Maria "accepted payment" from her paypal account 3 days after I submitted it on April 16th. The package was them shipped on April 22nd. The Stargate cart the sent me DID NOT WORK. I assumed it was PAL because it was rolling the screen. Turns out after talking to a few of the resident experts here, that the cart was just plain bad. I sent it back asking for an exchange, they offered me a refund, but did NOT offer me an exchange, even though their site listed them as having more of the same game in stock. And then these people tried to pull the old switcheroo saying "that's not the cart you bought from us." THIS IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. The only other Stargate cart I have ever owned in my entire life is the one My mother threw out over 15 years ago. I have ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to lie to you people. Chad Schell and CPUWIZ here can attest to my Prompt payment and willingness to work with REPUTABLE dealers. I've spent well over $400 on Atari equipment and games in the past 2 months since I recently styarted collecting again. My Ebay profile speaks for itself - 100% good reputation. Not a Single purchase of a Stargate cart from anyone else. As I told Maria in my email to her - I can't believe they would nickel and dime me like this over a $5.00 Atari Cart. I should have just let her keep the $5.00. And it's really petty when a retailer hasn't a leg to stand on to defend their own HORRIBLE customer service, so they resort to playing "Spelling Nazi" on a Message board. Maybe if YOU could read, you'd realize that my username here is NOT Chopper Commander. Maria - I suggest you grow up.

Somewhere in teh $30 US dollars +/- price range. plus shipping, you might be looking at $45 to $50, since you're not in the US.

..costs of collecting and playing...a question..

well V_G_A - I know you're kidding, and I know what you mean. But lately looking around on ebay is just so discouraging. Because it's kind of become a "fad" with retro-gaming, there has been a certian "Vulture" element that has been attracted to our little niche of the gaming universe. People who don't give a crap about the games, and are just trying to gouge people on their nostalgia. And fickle buyers who are "into retro gaming" this month who will ridiculously outbid people on ebay, and set new pricing standards in their wake, making it suck for anyone who knows the ACTUAL value of the games. It's not unlike Concert tickets, where people used to camp out and line up to get tickets for themselves, now all the scalpers and ticket agencys just send PAID line standers to muscle their way into getting nearly all the good seats, whcih they turn around and sell for 8 -10 times the ticket's face value. I just hope the "fad" part ends soon, and the rubber neckers who screw up the pricing curve go away soon. -

I don't mind paying new game prices for NEW games, i.e. homebrews that took someone serious time to develop and create. But that's provided that the game is a quality game. I have a bigger problem handing over more cash than a game is really worth to someone who scours flea markets and thrift shops just to fleece people on the internet. Thag - you could hand over $200 ( i.e. two stacks of games by your own admission) for a Cuttle Cart two, and never have to buy another overpriced cart again. Why would you pay $100 for 40 or 50 SINGLE carts, when you can hand over $200, and be able to play EVERY game ever made for the Atari, on REAL hardware? I know I felt much better knowing that my $200 went to Chad Schell, who basically makes nothing but recovering cost on the CC2, yet his product has spured more NEW GAME development on the 7800/2600 in the past year than we've seen since 1991. And I'd gladly pay "new game price" for cart version of some of the new ports that have happened because of it. But when I see someone trying to get $hundred$ of dollars for a single cart they had nothing to do with creating, other than lucking out and finding it at a salvation army, it turns my stomache. -

That all really depends upon whether you're collecting them just to play them, or collecting them to have a collection. What I mean by this is - if all you are interested in is PLAYING the games, you could either A.) use emulators and not pay a cent, or B.) get a multi-cart like the Cuttle Cart 2 of the Krokodile and never over pay for a single game again. Or, if you're collecting for the sake of having a large collection - you're going to have to pay the going rate, or spend nearly the same money in gas trying to find some in the wild. -
The Box has been opened. It's not NEW in Box anymore.

post a quicky with the sounds then.

They didn't implement the difficulty switches in MESS until .94 anyway. you can change them onthe fly with buttons 3 and 4.
-
Ha! Now the left difficulty is working (number of lives) but I found out that the right one is dead on my console. I opened it up and touched the contacts on the mobo, and whaddya know - it works. Fixed it. Just needed to clean the contacts on the right difficulty switch, by applying a little pressure and speed to the switch. Cool!

I was using 78Quick. Should I use HSCQUICK?
-
I only wish I had the skills to hack or write code like this. I've messed around with some graphics hacks for VCS games, and contributed a little to MESS Development, but this is a whole different class. I disassembled 7800 centipede using the latest distella, so that I can attempt a Trak-Ball compatible hack, but I don't even know where to look for the input code, or how to replace it. I wish there was more 7800 documentation.
-
Since there's no thread for it here in the 7800 section, I thought I'd post a link to the recent happenings in the "Hacks" forum: Pac-Man 7800 PacManPlus has done an excellent job of hacking Ms. Pac-Man into Pac-man/New Puck-X. It's still a WIP, but it's pretty damn near perfect. Just thought I'd give it a little props and show some appreciation.
-
I tried that too. I tried the 78SC_16K (because the rom is 16K) but to no avail. I just get a garbled rolling screen after the BIOS. Is there a banking file for normal 16K games that doesn't call for the HSC?
-
It's weird. It works great in MESS and Prosystem, but I get nothing on my real 7800 with my CC2. I even just flashed the CC2 to the latest Beta OS, but still nothing. But the difficulty switches work fine for all the other games and all of the games on my CC2, like Xevious (Switches fire controls from Dual to separated), So I know it's not just a bum console.
-
weird. Here's a zip of the large version. cc2labellarge.zip

Cuttle Cart 2 end label with "cut out" areas in white. Matched to the blue front label Chad used.
-
This doesn't seem to be working in my CC2. difficulty switches seem to have no effect on the game at all, and it's permanently set to 5 lives and New Puck-X maze. grumble grumble.
