There's an Atari CX-40 in that picture falling over in the bottom right corner. Maybe the CX-40 lost a fight with the Big Handlebar S-Video Joysticks?

excuse my fruit-computer ignorance, but isn't one of the major selling points of Mac OSX the capability of running windows programs on a Mac platform?
-
besides the Prosystem emulator released a few days ago, MESS is the best 7800 emulator out there. does it not work ing OS x?
-
I even added it to the prosystem.dat file with the MD5 from EMU7800, and it still didn't make a difference.
-
Here's a dumb question - When Mr. Statnton releases the source code - is there anyone here capable of porting it to, or helping me port it to Palm OS? I'd live to get this thing running on my Palm so I could play on the train to and from work.
-
You need to thank Greg Stanton. He's the author. exactly. I'm just bug testing like everyone else. Oh - and for the time being you can use a program called joytokey http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/jo...ey/english.html to map keystrokes to joystick commands..... This works great for ANY program that doesn't have native windows joystick support.

Who said it was perfect? I certainly didn't. In fact I spent several hours last night and this morning testing it so that I could help detail just exactly what it wrong with it. But the fact is, it's 95% closer than any of the other 7800 emus to date. I wasn't trying to embarass you. You're clearly doing a fine job of that yourself. Now as to why your rom isn't running the same as everyone else (I'm not the only one who claimed the same success with Kung Fu Master) I don't really know, Greg. But turning this thread into a pissing contest because your results aren't the same as other people's isn't going to help the emu get better.
-
I can't say why you would do that, but at any rate, here's a screenshot of Prosystem running the ROM from Atariage: Something tells me you're using a bad rom, or your bios file is bad, because it's worked fine for me just like this on 3 separate systems now. This one is from a Win2000, SP4 system, and the previous one is from a WinXP Sp2 system. Oh, and your little rollyeyed sarcasm smiley can bite me.
-
That second one is not a screenshot from this emulator, Prosystem. That's a screenshot from either MESS or EMU7800. Here's a screenshot from Prosystem:

Have you tried adding it to the ProSystem.dat file? I'd try it myself but my NT OS isn't supported. It starts, but it doesn't run correctly. The title screen appears as normal, and pressing a fire button starts the game, but then once the first playfield appears, the music just keeps looping and there is no character movement onscreen.

Beyond the shot clock timer in One on One running too fast, and Beef Drop not running, everything else appears to be dead-on perfect. Kung Fu Master and Xenophobe graphics are fine, centipede top line is fine, wow...good job.
-
I've noticed that since I have a fast system, AMD Ath XP 2800+ with 1GB of Ram and 128meg Nvidia GE-Force video, that the timing ramps depending upon what vidoe mode you set it at. If I set it to 1280x1024 at 4x zoom (default for my Windows settings, it runs Really fast, too fast in some cases. The Clock in One on One goes way too fast. But if I set it to windowed mode, at 640x480, it's as slow as molasses. weird.

Dude - you got Kung Fu Master Working!!!!!!!!!! Holy Shnikeys!!! Nice job. Now just ad support for joystickx, and you're good to go.

I think their page is just fubar. If you search for PPjoy on google and go to the google cached page, it's just fine. Latest versioni is .83, but I've been running .79 since last summer and it's fine. In fact - here it is. http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/Docs/PPJoyMain.htm Anywho, if you go to the page and look at the "Amiga 4 player" diagram, that's the one that also works for Atari 2600/7800 through the parallel port. All you need from radio shack is: one DB9 Male to RJ45 female kit. (allows you to place the pins where ever you want them.) These are about $2.00 One DB25 Male to RJ45 kit. (same as above) One standard Cat-5 network cable, whatever length you want. Basically all you do is wire up the pins on the DB9 end to the corresponding pinout for a standard digital joystick (Atari, Commodore, Amiga). write down which color wire you placed at which pin #. Then match up the colors and place the pins accordingly for the DB25 end following the pinout diagram. Last - install the PPjoy program/drivers, and add an Amiga 4-player style joystick. Reboot. It takes all of 15 minutes. (5 if you've got nimble fingers) and voila! Atari joystick on your PC, fully compatible with any windows game that requires. and you can configure it with two fire buttons, for Omega Race, or for 7800 and 5200 games and emulators. (something the Stelladaptor can't do.)
-
OR....If you'd rather spend next to nothing, you can check out this:http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/Docs/PPJoyMain.htm. It's a windows driver set that allows you to connect an atari joystick to your parallel port, just as you asked. You can build the adapter yourself for $5 with of parts from any radio shack, and there is NO SOLDERING OR ELECTRICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED. all you need to do is know who to read, and count. IF you want to know more, reply, and I'll explain in detail.

This is going to sound really strange - but I had the same problem - but using a 7800 pro-line on a PC using emulation. I was using the PPjoy parrallel port to Atari/Amiga drivers, and my controller used to do the exact same thing. weird.

Ken's Kung Fu is strong with the Atari 7800 in MESS. Maybe when he's done with Beef Drop, we can corral him to take a look at Kung Fu Master 7800, to figure out why No 7800 emulator seems to get it right....
-
The pokey sound on Ken's latest release is great....
-
So then what is the reason that Beef Drop still runs slightiy faster in MESS than it does in EMU7800? And why is EMU7800 able to get the clock on One on ONe Basketball right when MESS is WAAAAY off? Just curious...I think maybe the answer to closer to accurate emulation lies somewhere between these two.... BTW, I LOOOOVE the animation during the intro, Ken.

THe 7800 version of Joust! is bar none, the absolute best home version. I always liked it even better than the arcade. It just plays better. I use my PS2 to copy DVD Movies. I haven't played a game on it in about 6 months.
-
Ken's been given a credit in the MESS source code for the RIOT timer code. http://www.mess.org/wip.html

http://www.bannister.org/ubb/ultimatebb.ph...ic;f=7;t=002409 - here's the topic at the MESS board. Ken - once again thanks a million.

How about you stop playing "secret squirrel" and discuss it now? What is the significance or June 05? What is Infogrimes going to release?
-
I've also noticed that people will allow their personal opinions to alter the facts. As much as there may be anti-Flashback folks who will rail against it, there will always be any number of "Atari-Fans" who, beyond their own common sense, will tout the Flashback as a Marvel worthy of praise, and declare false and unsubstantiated sales figures for a toy that was more of an afterthought than a quality product worthy of any minor notice. They seem to do this simply because some conglomerate corporation bought the rights to the Corporate name of their Childhood favorite "ATARI" and haphazardly slapped a counterfeit looking Atari Logo sticker on the front of a box that houses *shudders* Nintendo equipment. But we are all stuck in the catch 22 here. The question is: Do you support the Flashback, in hopes that Infocrimes will eventually release a "real" atari product in the future (knowing full well that they most likely will NOT do this) or, Do we complain about the accuracy and quality of the Flashback, in hopes they will get it right the next time? (knowing that most likely any complaints will negate any possibility of a "next time".) Either way - I think we're all gonna get porked.
