  1. The 8 bit domain kit is supposed to be good. Don't count on it arriving next week. Or even next month. Dude takes a LONG TIME to ship stuff out. People here bitch about it like crazy.
  2. So you're saying that with a massive overclock of the 7800 emulated hardware you enjoy the game? I don't see how fiddling with the game's code is going to make the 7800 faster. But that's just it - it isn't "massive overclocking" The PSP runs at 333mhz, so when running the Prosystem emu (which requires a PC with a Pentium II 266 to run accurately) , you only eek out about an extra 10 fps on some games. Others only run at their expected 60FPS or lower, like Donkey Kong and Beef Drop. I'm just wondering if something in the coding of the Game rom can be altered to speed up the gameplay. I guess I'm asking the question: Was it written to run that slowly, or is tht just the best the 7800 can do? I assume since emulators can overclock this game more than other 7800 games, that it's using less processor cycles than others, so maybe the game's rom can be adjusted to take advantage of this and speed things up....
  3. Everybody here seems to hate Karateka, or at least most of you anyway. I happened to like it back when I had my 7800 in the 80's, but I realize it's frustrating flaws now, even though I still like it. Anyway - So in all of this work and testing I did with ZX-81 to get the PSP7800 emulator released (Sony PSP port of Prosystem emulator) - I noticed something REALLY cool. Most of Karateka's annoying problems are due to it's really slow gameplay and controller reaction time, right? Well, in PSP7800 you can alter the clock speed, in 5 FPS increments up to the standard 60 FPS, or you can turn off Speed limiting altogether. When you do this in PSP7800 for Karateka - the FPS the game runs at jumps up to about 72 FPS. Guess What? - It's PERFECT and amazingly playable at that speed. Controller reaction time is excellent. speed moving around is Arcade-like (Reminds me of Kung Fu Master). So - since I really don't know jack shit about that actual 7800 hardware, is there a way to alter the ROM's coding so that the game will play at a different rate (70 FPS is preferred) on REAL hardware, or is this simply the fastest it will go on real hardware, and we have no choice? Also - in PSP7800 using the same clock speed altering method - when you set the speed limiter to 40 FPS for One on One basketball - the shot clock runs at the normal speed.
  4. I use one of those on my 7800 to my RCA 27" flat tube. Gives a much better picture with no fuzz or lines/wavy lines like using the switchbox does.
  5. As I said - good for you. there are so many iterations of the downgraders out there, I wasn't even really sure which one to tell you to get. Next up - look for a program call PSX2PSP and start converting your PSX Isos to playable PSP eboot's. and if you can - get a user account at undergroundgamer.com. It's a torrent site and they have basically every PSX game ever made in ISO format.
  6. It's not a pain in the ass at all if you have half a brain in your head, or bother to read the instructions. way to insult Kondre, since he can't figure it out either and I don't agree with you at all, it is much harder than it should be, I tried it back when my PSP was 1.5 firmware and it wasn't worth the time and effort even back then when it was easy to do, and this is the main reason why I've never tried it since. No way around it, it's a pain in the ass, just because it may be easy for you doesn't mean you have to insult other people looking for help. Kondre, i didn't mean to piss you off, i'm just trying to tell you it's not worth bricking your system for and i'll say it again, ANYTIME YOU MESS WITH FIRMWARE YOU RUN THE RISK OF BRICKING YOUR SYSTEM. Trust me, i've seen many of people attempt flashes with the GP32 to totally kill the system. Sometimes stuff happens you don't expect or power bumps or something. Just becareful. I'd hate to see you ruin a system that is already pretty damn good without fiddling with it. Kondre is all set. He successfully downgraded and upgraded earlier this afternoon. He just hasn't posted the fact here yet. that's good to hear. It is confusing if you don't know where to start, since there have been so many firmware revisions. I wasn't trying to be demeaning to him at all when I kept reminding him that you really do need to read up before you do it. But as long as you do, it's fairly easy after all.

  8. Kondre's problems are not as common as you are posting. I, and many others on this board, had no problems downgrading or upgrading. If I gave up every time I installed software on PC's, Macs, Linux boxes, AS/400's, Cuttle Carts, PalmPilots, Geos devices, Apple II's, etc., I wouldn't have ever done much computing! 128bytes- So are the proceedure steps i am taking correct? Is there some odd issue with my unit that is making it different? According to the image that Danno posted, I have the Ta-081, but it doesnt seem to be behaving like a Ta-081. I guess What I need is a step by step proceedure. but for somereason none exist, If its so easy to do, i can see why, but if its that easy i dont understand why i am having issues. Kevin All the instructions you need are right here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=17935 If you follow them correctly, it will work just fine. But given that I've had to repost the same links multiple times in this thread because you keep asking me where to find this stuff after I've already pointed it out to you, I've completely lost patience with trying to help you. This stuff is really easy if you do a little reading. But if you don't and expect everyone else to tell you how to do it, you're only setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment. don't listen to Atari5200. He's a troll.

  10. If the folder is there, then it copied to your psp successfully. on the PSP - go to the Photos icon and open it to view the files in teh HEN-D folder. your psp will try to install HEN-d when you view the tiff file. If it is successfull, you will see the screen flash green, then blue. If not successful, it will flash red. You will need to do this a few times possibly, until you see it flash Blue. If it does, then go check the firmware version under system settings. It should say 2.80 Hen-d. If it does, then go back to "games" and run the downgrader.
  11. If I were you - I would get at least a 1 gb card, otherwise you won't be able to run much anyways. Perferably a 2 gb. I have a 4gb card coming, just need to wait for it. so is your response affirming that I have found the right devhook file and that i need both on the mem card? thanks Kevin You don't need Devhook. You need HEN-D. Devhook is a software that allows you to emulate newer firmwares on a PSP with 1.50 already on it. You don't have 1.50 on your PSP, so you don't need it. HEN-D allows you to run homebrew and downgraders on a PSP with newer firmware (2.80 and lower). you NEED to install and run this FIRST, before you can run the downgrader. You can get HEN-D HERE. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

  13. and this one is really easy to argue. It's $400 cheaper than every other Blu-Ray player on the market. I'd buy it just for that, knowing the games are only going to get better.
  14. Not really giving two shits about some angry gamer's tirade about being porked over by "the Man" because a company failed to deliver something (which can subsequently be made to work anyway) does not equal "Sony Apologist". I'm not apologizing for anyone. I like my PSP, and feel I got my money's worth. Others here don't. Boo fucking hoo. By all means, go get your custom firmware on and "Stick it to the Man", or sell your anger-inducing Sony product on ebay, decry them publically as frauds, and buy a DS and become a Nintendo fanboy. I really don't give a rat's ass. It's just video games. It's not then end of the world.
  15. You mean the thread where I set the record straight on the goat? Even going so far as to *gasp* make Sony sound better than the tabloids were making them out to be? Oh noes! Besides, he's not under any obligation to say nice things about Sony. It's not a rule of the forums, and he's not forced by law to do it (unless Sony buys America, anyway). JR Doesn't make it very productive or adult either. If you want to complain about Sony, why not complain to Sony themselves? why bother a bunch of people on an Atari retro site who mostly don't seem to have major problems with Sony, and are happy with their PSPs?
  16. Before you run the downgrader, you have to run HEN-D, which I gave you the link to above. HEN-D is short for Homebrew Enabler -revision D. It's a Tiff file that exploits the security in the PSP's firmware, allowing it to run Unsigned homebrew software and downgraders.
  17. It is the greatest handheld video game system ever built. The only Reason Sony hasn't completely opened up development on it liek the Custom firmwares do is because it would make them liable for all the pirating and illegal code use in some of the emulators out there. But in the last year, they've added feature after feature to the Standard firmware, and done almost nothing to dissuade the Custom Firmware and Downgrader coders like Dark Alex and the Noobz team. In case some of you haven't figured it out yet, the continued and UNCHALLENGED existence and availability of custom Open Edition PSP firmware on Hundreds of internet sites is Sony's way of saying "Legally we can't allow this stuff under our official firmware, but go ahead and use it, it's your console, it's your risk."

Is that a request or an order, General Danno? Not an order no, but why all the secrecy? Mitch has it in his hands, and it's obviously playable, because he's posted screens and is playing it. Since he's not the copyright holder on it, and he's not going to release the game for profit - why not release the ROM? He already confirmed it's dumped, because he's tried in in a few emu's.
  19. Actually? I give a shit. I give a shit that a once very useful company is committing to a headlong dive into the side of a cliff. I give a shit that they're screwing over customers at every opportunity. I give a shit that they have stopped producing products that are worth spending money on. I hate to say it, but I miss being able to purchase a Clie. I miss the Vaio of old. I miss the exciting developments in robotics. I miss the company that sucked some, but was trying very hard to better itself. Now they're just a bunch of arrogant pricks who think it's perfectly acceptable to steamroll their customers. And the only way that's going to change is if people *WAKE UP* and start paying attention to the fact. Sony needs to be held accountable for their actions and their promises. The only ones who can hold them accountable are their customers and potential customers. I think you give enough of a shit for everyone here combined. the PSP is a great platform. With the Custom Firmware, it's an AMAZING platform.

Does the rom work in a CC2? POST IT!!!!!
  21. Who gives a shit? Put the custom Firmware on there and rip your own. It takes all of 15 minutes.
  22. Everything you need is on PSP-hacks. You don't need to be running Windows. As long as you can access your memory stick from your Mac, you'll be fine. but you're going to have to do some reading on your own. the tutorials in the forum section of PSP-hacks are second of none.
  23. First things first: check to see if your psp is a TA-082 motherboard or not. this is faily easy. Open the UMD door. and then rotate the PSP towards you so that you're looking at the back, and the opening of the UMD door is facing the floor. Now look inside the door, and you MIGHT see some writing on the motherboard to the left of the door. like show here: if you see the IC1003, it's a TA-082. No problem. If not, it's a Ta-081. even easier. If it's a TA-082, you're going to need the IMproved 2.80 downgrader. read all the read me's. install and run HEN-D first, then once you get it running, run the 2.80 downgrader. If it's a TA-082, run the idstorage changer first before the downgrader. Welcome to 1.50 If it's NOT a TA-082, get the generic 2.80 downgrader, run HEN-d, then run the downgrader. Once you're there, get teh 3.40 OE-A custom firmware installer. Once you're on 1.50, you don't need HEN-D to run stuff anymore. Same with any of teh OE firmwares.
  24. No. Once you downgrade to 1.5, you can then do one of two things: Upgrade to Dark Alex's custom firmware 3.40 OE (reccommended) which is all of the features of the latest firmware, PLUS the ability to play emu's, PSP ISO files, and converted PSX games. or, Stay at 1.50 and run Device hook 52, which emulates the lateset firmware without needing to upgrade. There's really no need to stay at 1.50 though. 3.40 OE does everything the official Sony 3.40 does, plus a whole lot more that it doesn't. there is a 2.80 downgrader. it's pretty easy to use.
