Why did they have to put the trackpad in front of the keyboard on my laptop it keeps getting in the way and causing the pointer to move and text to be highlighted.

  When I first started using trackpads 10-15 years ago, I hated them. So, I forced myself to use one. I used my laptop whenever I could, and I refused to plug in a mouse. After a week, I was pretty comfortable with it and today it makes no difference to me unless I'm doing some really precision CAD work or something.
