  1. Just had surf and turf for lunch.  Burger King Big Fish sandwich and Bacon King sandwich.  I am VERY full right now.

Sounds delicious. Now I need the lunch I've been avoiding.

Thank you. I am quietly proud -- but still very much proud -- of my country.

  3. Titanic is overrated. Everything about it is well done, except for the main story. It's so damn cliche. It pretty much ruins the rest of the movie.

To Jaybird3rd: that seems to be the case with a number of James Cameron's films. Aliens and Terminator 1 and 2 are obviously timeless classics, but neither Avatar nor Titanic seemed to make a lasting mark on popular culture.

I have always thought this as well. All hype but little substance. The Titanic was a horrible tragedy but -- with the notable exception of the dangers of too much hubris -- the story offers few life lessons for today. I wish people would take more interest in the early 20th century events which led to the rise of fascism.

  5. 20 years ago, the Playstation 2 was launched in North America.

I still consider the PS2 one of the best consoles of the modern era. To me it's almost comparable to the Atari 2600 in its sheer longevity and its momentous catalog of games. That whole generation was the sweet spot of modern gaming imo. (Full disclosure: I don't miss the unskippable cinematics of so many games back then).

  6. So what are you getting from Amazon for Prime day? Not seeing any deals on the things I'd like to buy...

  7. I still think "Super Nintendo" is one of the dumbest names for a console. In Japan the NES was called the "Famicom". So, when the "Super Famicom" came out it made sense in my mind. Nintendo Super Famicom sounds pretty good. But here in the US. the prior console was the Nintendo Entertainment System (or NES). So we got the Super NES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)...or what is known as the "Super Nintendo"...but it just sounds dumber than Super Famicom to me...dunno why.

  8. Kids didn't rewind tape movies after watching them in 90s, but now I want kids to recharge cellphones before returning them after watching movies. ???

  9. I saw Blue Oyster Cult last night.  Look at how close I was to the stage.  Tickets were only $55 plus a small fee (non Ticketmaster, yey!).  I'd rather pay $55 to see one of my top 5 bands (first CD I bought with my own money was a BOC CD -- Fire of an Unknown Origin in 1986) rather than drive 75 miles away and pay double to sit in nosebleed seats to see whatever current auto-tuned pop star is hip.

One of the t-shirt styles they were selling said Blue Oyster Cult -- 1972 to Forever.  I was born in 1972, so I wanted to buy one but they were sold out.  All 1,350 seats were sold out in the beautiful Robins Theatre.  There were even some young people there.  There's really not a bad seat in the house in these smaller venues, and it's actually better to sort of sit in the middle of the venue for better audio.  I was near the bass speakers.  About 10 of us got to fist bump Buck Dharma.

I saw BOC for about the same price about 13 years ago. Well worth it and a real bargain.

  10. RIP Diahann Carroll.  With her passing, all of the featured performers in "The Star Wars Holiday Special" (besides the core "Star Wars" cast) are dead.

  11. Guess who just bought the entirety of Star Trek: TNG on vhs... this guy! ?

    What have I done?

Blindseer42 wouldn't watching them in chronological order (starting with TPM) be a worse punishment? Three movies before you get to a good one.

  12. I know what a SLOW RIDE is...A car that doesn't go very fast, (unless of course it's a metaphor for something else like relationships or something,  IDK I haven't read the lyrics).   But can anyone tell me what a FOGHAT is?

It's a hovercraft of some kind. Wait, sorry -- that was the Alan Parsons Project.

Another thing that survived for generations which Millennials and Y's seemed to have no interest in.

  13. It seems like TV Land doesn't air shows from the 60's 70's or 80's that much. Two and a Half Men has been on all day :(

    1. AtariWarlord

Another reason to miss the '90s, ironically because the classic TV and cartoon channels played shows from the '60s and '70s.

Having me choose between Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here is like making me decide between my children.

Not always. I don't remember much weeping when Nixon died (not saying whether that's good or bad -- just sayin').

  19. I think if ya didn't know there was a secret message in Adventure, you probably wouldn't have looked for it...Hmmm...Could there be a secret message in one of my posts? I don't wanna taco'bout it...

    1. AtariWarlord

      AtariWarlord

I've never cared about that secret message and never bothered to find out. Historically important but kind of a bore (no, I'm not talking about the game itself).

The very reason I've come to hate the greedy bastards at Nintendo. I mean you're seriously going to stop me from playing Sky Skipper -- a game neither you nor anyone has cared about in almost 40 years?

  21. Cool Idea #162: Imagine a Super Warlords game, w/ 20 players onscreen, a screen 1/2 the size of a small movie theater screen, Networked online, w/ about 5 players per bar, arcade, or barcade. Whaddya think?

    1. AtariWarlord

Why thank you. That must be pretty wise considering how many years I have under my belt.

I think it would completely stop the economy because nobody would ever want to stop playing it.
