  1. Today I am going to use rickety hard drives from the 1990's to hold data while I rebuild 2 systems. You have to slap them to get them going, and the bearings are whining something nasty.

      Years of iTunes and photos and business. Some videos. Some is partly backed up in a haphazard manner by the user. Most isn't.

       

      I hope they hold up because we don't have much choice at the moment in this remote locale.

      If the drives are that flaky, perhaps it would help to connect them to a separate power supply. Spin them up once and let them run instead of restarting them multiple times, slapping them each time and hoping they spin up right.
