  1. I believe that toy computers like the Atari 8-bit machines and Vic-20 and C-64 are important for sparking the imagination. Today’s kids don’t have access to those kinds of machines. Instead we give them fake laptops by v-tech that can’t hold a 3yr old’s attention. How insulting!

      Back then I liked the zx-spectrum because all the instructions where printed on the keys. By accident I figured out that I could draw circles. Cool!

      Yeah, if you're a kid growing up today, you're limited to either dumbed-down "kid's computers" or "kid's programming tools" that do everything for you, or full-fledged PCs and programming tools intended for professional use.

       

      I don't think either alternative is aligned with an inquisitive kid's imagination nearly as well as the old 8-bit home computers.
