What good is chemistry set without chemicals? Back in the day, they made just that for the girls. Boys sets would contain everything to make fire and heat, smoke and explosions. Girls sets would have charts and microscopes to look at household cleaners and bugs.

  I've read that a lot of those old chemistry sets contained materials that are illegal to sell now.
