I’ve rarely seen a TV set or monitor correctly adjusted. Most people just randomly fiddled with the controls until they could tolerate the result.

  Colour is normally at about 95% saturation, brightness is maxed out, etc.

  I always struggle with manual adjustments on older color sets. Black and white CRTs are a bit easier.

  I used to be an A/V tech and my specialization was display calibration. This was at the tail end of the CRT days into the modern era. I no longer have the equipment, but still feel like I can eyeball it reasonably well. It isn’t exactly an “in demand” set of skills, but hey… my TV’s and monitors look pretty good…
