    2. Tempest

      jaybird3rd

Wow, Atari really did make lots of extra copies of those Apple ][ Atarisoft games, didn't they?!

I'd imagine someone might try to sell them off piecemeal, but I can't imagine it would be worth the effort.

  7. 4K televisions for $300.00 at big box!

    1. jd_1138

      jd_1138

Does it have HDR? High Dynamic Range is the most important aspect of a 4K TV. We have a non-HDR 4k set -- an LG 55". I think it was $500 on sale.

    2. Keatah

      Keatah

DOn't believe so. I don't think HDR made down that low just yet. Another couple of months.

      HDR is overrated.

I like concerts, but it's really hard to stand for 3 hours. Kills my back. That said, I still love live music.

      jd_1138

Local ampitheatre has cover bands -- Beatles, Eagles, Chicago. They probably sound better than the original bands, since they're 30 years younger. Plus admission is only $8 and not a bad seat in the place. You can sit down and watch.

Maybe the Who or the Rolling Groans?

      Haha, or Nibiru!

    2. Atarian7

      Atarian7

You're lucky to get snow instead of ice. Neighbor's pine tree branches broke off all over the place.

    3. save2600

      save2600

We've had that happen before... ice gets so heavy, it literally sheers large branches right off the tree, leaving major bald spots. :-(

    1. Keatah

      Keatah

How load and save programs, how to transfer stuff around, popular and useful utilities, resources on the web and how to use them, recommended hardware configurations, how to fix specific problems. How to clean them. cables and necessary hookups. Discussion of legacy and modern displays and i/o options.. Probably more.. FAQ highligts and discussions. Modern tools on the PC and how they interact with classic computers and how they can be useful.

A lot of this us veterans already know. But noobs? They're bouncing off the walls while we cringe and see 100 times better ways of doing things.

      jaybird3rd

Sounds good to me! I think it would be fun to teach that stuff! I'd gladly cover a lot of that in my own university computer science classes, if I could justify doing so.

  13. A cool thing coming from FPGA is that people are finally beginning to accept 1080p and LCD as the new gaming standard. The complaints about LCD not replicating the old analog CRT "effects" and special artifacting tricks are beginning to die off. The muss and fuss of connecting analog consoles to digital sets is subsiding. FINALLY!! Matrix addressed displays are superior all-around.

BillyHW: The problem with being someone who cares about the details is there need to be enough of you to get a manufacturer's attention.

    2. Keatah

      Keatah

I think the new HDR displays do a good job of having enough contrast for Asteroids' blooming effects.

    3. Keatah

      Keatah

The bigger problem with manufacturers is getting them to spend the necessary R&D money, and the stocking the necessary parts, spending time to change the software. That's a LOT of work.

  17. A jet plane carrying 100,000 lbs of hard disks outperforms the internet like by a billion to one. And it exceeds a trillion if you replace them with microSD cards.

    1. Keatah

      Keatah

I bought this up because that black hole photo came out of 5+ Petabytes of data. They transported nearly 2000 pounds of hard drives via jet cross-country.

    2. Keatah

      Keatah

@x=usr(1536) I head the original phrase used tape cartridges instead of hard drives. I suppose whatever storage device is popular in your time period will work. And the statement will hold true.

I think you should start by unplugging it. However, removing it from your head will probably require professional help.

  19. A midnight storm is underway, and I'm playing SteepleChase.

  20. A photon travels at the speed of light and experiences zero-time. Therefore it does not decay, because “decay” is something that happens over time. And all photons have seen both the beginning and the end of The Universe simultaneously.

    1. xucaen

      xucaen

When I photon hits a brick wall, what happens to it? When a photon hits a black hole, what happens to it?

    2. atari2600land

So how do we know photons even exist?

    3. atari2600land
