  1. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why.
  2. Current is also important. External modems tended to draw more because they often came with their own internal power regulators and power supply. And why did they have their own power supply? To get stable and clean electricity to all the circuits. Frequency stability, timing stability, signal levels.. All of it. All of it needs to be rock solid otherwise errors develop.
  3. It's fun to "insert yourself" into a ground run low enough to use bullets only. I only wish the bullet sounds were audible with all the other stuff going on. I'm pretty sure the full-size arcade generates the sound, but you really have to listen to hear it. Make sense?
  4. Does everdrive feed the data to, and respond to, the console with the exact same timings as a genuine cartridge's circuitry would?
  5. Surely there'd be markings on the modem spec'ing power input..?
  6. It could happen!!! What if it were to get sucked into the vacuum cleaner?
  7. Preparing for an evening of testing and debugging Stellarium.. All hail the new status update thread!
  8. Some of those high prices are jokes. The big N is gonna be shipping more.
  9. http://www.allwinnertech.com/index.php?c=product&a=index&id=51 Main CPU = AllWinner Tech R16 ..it also has some ram and a flashrom. I think that's it. Specs aside, how is one supposed to have a traditional classic gaming session around-the-tv with those short controller cords?
  10. Great vid, no glaring noises or overloud music. And no following a formula.
  11. Oooh that knife was close to the NES box itself.
  12. Not yet. Next time we're out shopping I'll be sure to get 2 or 3 for presents, maybe one for the ol'lady. I assume they work pretty good as I haven't really heard any complaints or anything bad.
  13. That's either a mistake, or a purposely high price to discourage placing any order, like a placeholder. Either way, this isn't worth $200 no matter how you look at it.
  14. I'm certain it's been said before. But this whole situation irks me in the wrong way. 1- Manufacturers may be measuring the market and testing overall interest. It even tells what areas of the world are likely to sell more of the widgets. 2- Manufacturers definitely use this to artificially create hype and demand. Get the herd mentality going. Get the monkey-see, monkey do mentality going. Appeal to the need to hunt for something. Makes you fixated on a target. Gives you tunnel vision. Nothing else matters during the hunt. Can't easily fight 30,000 years of hunter gatherer instinct. And companies know that. 3- This is like viral marketing, or whatever term businesses are using these days. A company isn't going to give that away. If they can make you want something I know it happens to me if and when I lose something on ebay or forget to bid, or whatever. That gotta-get-it "stuff" swells up inside you and you just gotta capture it! Stopping for nothing till you getted it! heh.. But usually I just get mad and go break something and put it on the back burner for when it might become available in the future. Enforcing all this? I can't imagine how. A company can make and sell whatever it wants in whatever quantity it wants. Unless something is illegal I can't see how ebay would get in on helping - they're there to make a profit! And ebay is all about selling stuff you have. And there is nothing wrong in that. It seems people are getting upset at their own lack of control. And not understanding why they get mad at the whole phenomenon in the first place. Enough!
  15. Tolerance and understanding. Not everyone is perfect in their enunciation and projection of exactly & precisely what they want to say. Sometimes the overall meaning needs to be taken into context. And even then things are can be interpreted multiple ways. Unnecessary grilling and drilling is counterproductive.
  16. Ohh how cool! I had no idea, absolutely no idea Atari even toyed with the idea of an expansion chassis. Let alone made them. Anyhow, this looks to be much better than the ratbag thing they made for the Apple II back in the 70's. Whatta shitbox it was.
  17. Porting is something entirely different, it can be as simple as tweaking the memory map or as comprehensive as a re-write in an entirely different language. So lot's of room and resources to play with.
  18. The childhood dream of having an Atari 400/800 and VCS and 7800 is alive and well. As long as they're on the same machine it's awesome enough for me. Someone had suggested the individual emulators are like front ends or menu selectors for the game roms. Regarding the idea of an 8-bit system emulating the VCS? The VCS' video display is significantly different from bit-mapped systems. And things happen pretty quick when the screen is being drawn. I can see individual games being done with a little per-game tweaking. I can also envision an 8-bit VCS emu running at 75% speed Back in the day My 486 DX2/50 was handling VCS emulation ok - with power to spare.
  19. That's right. All this self-induced stress about not getting one on release day is childish and ridiculous.
  20. I thought the name came about because these models became unreliable hulks at some time and needed specific repair work to fix or replace the connector. Thus associating them with a clunky appliance, all the frapping up and down to get the cartridge to make contact and stuff.
  21. Video Toaster for Amiga from NewTek. It's what Babylon 5 was made with.
  22. There's 2 versions I know of. One with the unmodded purple saucer/dollar, and v2 with the green saucer/dollar.
  23. There's Border Patrol. A stampede hack.
