  1. Those flight simulator colors are wrong. The Artificial Horizon Indicator should be blue on top half, and brown/tan on the bottom half. Give or take a few ticks of the sliders for more or less saturation as you see fit.
  2. The only safe battery is an off-board battery. Did that to my vintage 486.
  3. I noted that when 2 missiles are close to each other and both are destroyed at the same time, the points that pop up aren't always visible, or sometimes only 1 is displayed. It's like they're xor'ed out or something. If that makes sense.
  4. Too much stuff - circuitry, firmware routines, bus arbitration, the program itself, got in the way of crisp fast text on those bitmapped machines. The first Mac, having no graphics chip, felt totally different and faster. Even if it was slower by the numbers.
  5. Another not-talked-about advantage of the PC, obvious or not, was that its development cost was spread among hundreds of companies. Anyone could introduce a standard and if it was done right it would gain acceptance. Consider basic things like graphics. You had 3DFx, nVidia, ATI, S3, TSENG Labs, CirrusLogic, AMD, Intel, Rendition, 3DLabs, Matrox, and more, all working and experimenting and introducing new technologies. All at the breakneck pace of throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. Repeat for sound cards, hard drives, motherboards, cases, i/o peripherals, memory, and to a lesser extent even the processors themselves. There'd be no way for a single company to explore anything, any sub-system, with that kind of intensity or diversity.
  6. Despite the Amiga having some advantages in video production. All of that was on the professional level. No regular consumer could really afford the rest of the necessary equipment - which advertising conveniently glossed over. Or downright ignored. Additional stuff would have included. 2 tape decks, a heavy and expensive camera, genlocking device / toaster, a lot of interconnecting cables, a second monitor. Maybe even some sort of mixing board. Not forgetting specialty software and the Amiga itself equipped with extra memory, hard drive space, and extra MHz from an accelerator. Personal digital video never really came into its own until the decline of the desktop personal computer, the rise of the smartphone.
  7. Wonder if it's those capacitors in the a/d circuit. Later II series machines had them, earlier ones did not.
  8. Dunno where "here" is at. The IIgs was pretty lame overall. Like two systems in one, with each half getting in the way of the other. And that tended to cloud the good experience of the standard //e side of things. Standards and common file formats were hugely important to businesses. And in the home they made things more user friendly.
  9. I've used white school glue and paper..
  10. You're gonna wanna fix that CMOS battery. Gets old real fast always fixing those settings. Just clean up the crap from the old one and solder or "connector-in" an AA holder with AA batteries.
  11. Why not have two versions. Selectable with GameSelectSwitch or Difficulty a/b. One where the game increases speeds till the player breaks. And one where endurance is key.
  12. Early Macs were almost anti-hobbyist., with the bus being closed off and whatnot. Not like the II series or PC. All I remember was that Macs were good at DTP. And that was all the rage for a while.
  13. Windows 10 is still an inhomogeneous mess that's uncomfortable to use.

@Flojomojo I just want an OS that looks how I like and Never changes (messing up/destroying all of my stuff)...Is that too much to ask?

I've been meaning to add a tiny bit of mild profundity to the world in the form of a Status Update.   Perhaps now's the time.

  15. If CDC & WHO ask U not to touch your face then how the hell am I gonna pick my nose? Tried a pencil eraser but it has no tactile response and just impacts the boogers. Q-tips are too ticklish. Gloves are slippery the snot slides right off. HELP!!!

  16. Anything to do with ataribox is shit, like TacoBell in a plastic baggie. But not sure if that's as bad as atari themselve name dropping the current homebrew scene making new cartridges. It's not the box is going to be able to play them..
  17. Generall Stella WindowsPC question. When playing the Amiga Mouse hack of Missile Command - is there a way to assign the fire button to the keyboard instead of a mouse button? I didn't see any option that might let me do that, missing something obvious?
  18. Can't wait for the spring rains to start. They're another great time to be experimenting indoors, but with all the windows open, or even out on porch.

I still have Permafrost type dense snowdrifts on the lawn and to the sides of my driveway...The warmer weather (Today's high was 39, but tomorrow 50!!! :) and the wind will eventually wear them down.  No Joke, I think some of it's been there since November!

  19. It's just that collecting often turns into hoarding. Otherwise there are little or no issues. I can play with my vintage electronics and stuff most anytime I want.
  20. When my old bag turned into a minimalist I just gave her control of the two garages and basement & cellar. That seemed to smooth things over. And I kindasorta wanted those cleaned up and out anyways. So let someone else do the work. Other than that we have our own hobby/workshop rooms. But overall its great reading about what others are doing to downsize and reorganize. Huge monster-sized collections do nothing but bog ya down and interfere with actually enjoying the stuff you got.
  21. Skip the alcohol. It just makes people stupid.
  22. The grants and donations don't have to go to the volunteers. It would go to upkeep of the museum, and supplies and parts, and tools and materials. Things the individual hobbyist isn't given.
