  1. Status update:

The Wayback Machine is an absolute goldmine.

In other news, I'm starting to regret buying that CF adapter from a Chinese seller. Estimated arrival date is February.

I don't want an Amiga as much as I did a month ago but I still want one pretty damn bad.

I still want a PET as much as I did a month ago.

Excited to go back to the US. Mostly because I'll finally be able to use my Compaq laptops.

Sucks that Apple didn't include an assembler in the Apple //e. I have to spend money to enhance it or type in machine code in hex.

I think my computer preferences are getting older and older. I'm starting to get interested in the KIM-1, Altair, and minicomputers.

    TRS-80s are awesome.

Also is it weird that I think Apple II's suck?

  2. I am never buying another new videogame console.  Feels good to be off the rollercoaster. Launch day? Don't care.

  3. What is the Astronaut's favorite place on the keyboard...

    ... The Space Bar!  🤪

  4. I finally bought a box of CD-Rs. Now I can finally use my Compaq LTE laptops!

I spent the day downloading a crapload of games and utilities, compressing them to fit into a single CD-R, then testing it on Virtualbox. All good to go, now the only thing I need are the laptops which are halfway across the globe.

  6. A Cold Front came through today to put an end to our nice weather,  But that's OK,  I'm just chillin'.

  8. Well, this kinda sucks. My laptop doesn't have a number pad; that means I can't type numbers in xpet!

  9. Early Christmas bonus: I'm finally going to be able to clean out and bring the contents back from the storage unit that has been between 3000 and 1500 miles away from me for the past 12 years, depending on where I've lived.

Won't have everything back until January, but it will bring home the 600XL, 800XL, 1200XL, Super Pong, Video Pinball, Lisa 2, a couple of BeBoxen, and other things I'm not remembering but that are in there.

  10. I don't know what makes me want to buy big old useless Compaq machines.

  16. My Status Updates

Yes, hello. So. I had no idea that status posts I made went to the front of the site.

I will be the first to admit that I have struggled to get my head around the nuances of Atari Age and I sometimes get 'information overload'.

I couldn't find any kind of guide so just bumbled along.

I assumed that I had a wall like with Facebook, not that we had a sort of giant message board of Twatter style tweets.

So apologies to those annoyed by what you might assume to be 'Spamming'.

I just thought I was posting my own little comments , jokes and opinions to my own wall and those who commented had come because they were curious.

I will endeavour to post less frequently in future.

  17. My dad keeps saying he wants an arcade machine in his garage. Says it was his childhood dream to own an arcade machine. I really want an original 80s arcade machine but my dad wants one of those modern ones with hundreds of games built in. Obviously the latter would be a smarter choice but really, I don't see a point in getting an arcade machine if you're just going to play on a generic looking cabinet using a generic arcade controller. I'd like to play Centipede on a cabinet that has a trackball, not a joystick, thanks.

Seems the unspoken rule is to not have more than 1 status update visible on the screen at any one instant in time. But within status updates (like here) the sky's the limit.

Some status updates themselves are worthy of a dedicated thread. There is no spoken or unspoken rule on that.

Personally I believe that if you need to update the status updates more then a few times a day you should open a twitter account.

Yes if that's what you like, and you have the space. Sure! Like I preach about consoles. Maybe get 1 or 2 fav cabs and then a multi-cab with MAME and stuff.

I have excess space and consider the space itself and architecture rather intertwined and harmonious. Have to have it totally uncluttered except for my hobby room and workshop.

Those are practically caving in on themselves. But's it's contrasty and different compared to the rest of the house.

Don't take it personally. Some users have trouble with themselves and it manifests as anger towards others. And I'm calling that out.

If a mod talks to you about consuming the status page then listen up! Otherwise use your own judgment and watch what other more balanced folks are doing.

I don't know about a full-size cab. I'm just not into the big and bulky scene. No fat women either. I like i9 MAME bartops. That's my gig. And if I need a specialty controller I can just custom make it in my spare time and plug it right in.

The idea of standup arcade cabs is rather cliche' to me at this point in time.

  21. The dedicated console/pong system market has been oddly competitive in recent months. Are there really that many stone-age videogame aficionados now, or are people running out of other things to collect? 🤨

  22. Updating emulators is like taking a vintage machine into the shop. Always comes out a little better. MAME is gaining printer support. AppleWin has new RGB card refinements and better video timing. Stella has more palette adjustments and ARM speedups. Tip of the hat for the devs!

  23. What's better, the 2600 or Intellivision, and why?

  25. Is it possible for the Atari 2600 to save your high scores after you turn it off?
