  1. I'm sure some political ads will creep in. As will stuff for inappropriate products or services. But, it's the internet!
  2. What about restoring existing trim?
  3. Whatever damned deity exists or doesn't exist I don't care about versions and this and that and who's using what emulator for what project. Don't waste time with minutia and shit like that. Don't get wrapped up in the politics of software so to speak. Emulation today is advanced and prevalent enough that there is something for everyone. Just get the version that works best and have fun!
  4. Exactly how is the technology different from "standard" integrated circuits. Because FPGA is no more than a large number basic logic gates, they are just wired differently.
  5. Perhaps. But I'm feeling silly. So! Anyhow it's grand to see this little $100 computer taking center stage. And even more grand to see whole emulation packages written, configured, and optimized for it. I wonder what the most popular emulated system is on the Pi. It certainly isn't like Astrocade or Vectrex, but more like Genesis or Nintendo or SuperNintendo. On the arcade front seems to be those bastard fighting games again.
  6. Fuses blow for a reason. And you will need to discover that reason and fix the issue - otherwise it will likely happen again.
  7. Fix your goddammned grammar. You might think you're a genius, but it is important to communicate that to others.

Bad grammar is terrible, but swearing in public is fine?  Just saying...

  8. And rich we had to be. I mowed lawns morning, noon, and night, for months on end. It was like $200 or $300 in 1978/79. Still remember calling some of the big universities long-distance across the entire state! Sometimes having to connect at 110-baud during bad weather.
  9. U.S. Robotics for the goddammned fucking win!! Loved it then, love it now as a nostalgia piece. The red status bar is so 70's & 80's. Spent many a-nights doing BBS'ing starting out with my 300-baud Hayes MicroModem on the Apple II and then upgrading through the years to a U.S. Robotics 3453C external modem. While most of my BBS'ing activity was on the Apple II I did a fair amount on the Atari 400/800 and C-64. Finishing up with the PC and going the cablemodem route eventually. As far as a repository of .ATR images (which I think the OP is querying about) there are plenty to give you an explosive influx of just about everything you can imagine and remember.
  10. The site is a popular space-news and space science site written for the enthusiast. The site is still operational with the amount of adverts and annoyances seemingly holding steady. He did back off after many people complained and traffic decreased. Had to. There was another site that went overboard (same subject matter & style) and kicked itself out of top standings. They blindly "corporat-ized" themselves and outsourced all their web activities including customer care and solicitation for material. Personally I don't think ads are an issue, it's all the page rendering corruption and disorganization they cause. The site has to be human-readable in a pleasant manner or users simply will not visit.
  11. There is a site where the owner said outright he watched the users' behavior over a period of like a year and slowly increased the amount of advertising till he pissed them off by making the site too difficult and slow. With an attitude like that I put it on my DoNotSubscribeTo list. That doesn't appear to be the case here however.
  12. It's a good thing. It will get AA some needed cash and it will alert me to new products in whatever field-of-interest I might happen to be shopping in. Click on some electronics stuff from electronics oriented sites and you get ads that match that topic. Ads for 'scopes and meters and parts.. And for the ones that are boring, just ignore or block them them. Someday I may subscribe, but not just yet.
  13. MAME or Stella ain't cores. No two ways about it. No matter what. They don't run on FPGA and they are positively not VHDL bitstreams. So. In the context of RetroArch, Lakka, EmulationStation the various emulators or cores are properly called "plug-in modules" or just plain "modules". Using the term "core" is just a piss-poor attempt to be hip and appeal to the perceived greatness of FPGA. Or be plain stupid. Software Emulation = Engine Hardware FPGA = Core ..that according to the best minds in computer science.
  14. Amusing to note that "cores" is becoming a term for systems supported in software emulation. "Cores" used to be FPGA only. But now that mame has cores, it should even more widely accepted and enjoyed. Though I suppose the proper term for software emulation is "engine" - but I can't imagine that being adopted.
  15. Go digital and worry about this crap. And if you think about it, most companies don't care if you collect their stuff. Just as long as you buy buy buy.
  16. Important news! An American Airlines jet had to be met by firetrucks and paramedics because a woman popped a blister and it splattered a little. It's a regulation. And don't fucking ask me for a link because it's all over the news.

  17. The tray's motor belt is new and correctly sized. All the parts are freshly cleaned and minimal grease has been carefully applied. No grease migration, not yet. And all the parts look good with no excess wear. No broken gears or anything binding them up. No parts at odd-angles. No visible issues. No visible wear. And there is no electronic, switch, laser, controller problem. The drive is also getting correct power and IDE signals. It is not an OS problem either. But.. The tray still sticks when no disc in the drive. And it ejects/opens fine when there IS a disc in the drive. The tray motor turns, and it looks like it's straining, and it has enough torque, but the rest of the mechanical stuff doesn't move. So the motor is good. The tray opens smoothly and smartly if you press the button and tap it with a paperclip to get it moving. Or it also opens if you smack the drive - sometimes. The drive is/was lightly used and was made in 2005. (I think we'll make this a test based on an unconventional fix I just did. So! Can you fix the drive?)
  18. Anyone got vintage Lite-On DVD drives with a stuck tray? Especially when there is no disc in the drive. And especially if you greased the tray mechanism and tried a new rubber band..!
  19. LaserBlast by Activision? That should work. Isn't that a simple-ass 2K cartridge with no bankswitching trickery?
