Aah lucky, Vanguard was probably the game I wanted the most, I think I was quite impressed by the arcade version.. and it's even a very good conversion! I'm really curious about what I could have reacted when faced with it, I really never tried it on an actual 2600 until emulators came up! Regards! Rasty.-

We purchased Berzerk along with the 2600 way back in the 80s (are the 80s so far away??). Actually I've never seen it in the arcades before, but I thought it was a cool game! I enjoyed it a lot, mostly because it was so polished for an Atari game. A bit repetitive yes, but good looking. Not too much after we got Defender which is quite the opposite: lots of enemies and things to do but horrible flicker from hell, as we all know! We were aware of the 2600's limits anyway (luckily my dad has always been a techie ) and understood that it probably was the only way the 2600 could handle the game (at that time!). We rented a few games too, the most notably being Cosmic Ark (which I always loved). Then we sold the whole lot and got a C64, but I kept missing the 2600 a lot, mostly because of many of the games I always wanted to have. I was mostly (and still am) very intrigued by all the "obscure" 2600 releases, which provide a virtually endless source of fun when it comes to trying "new" sutff Regards! Rasty.-

Anyway what about we agree in saying that a "2600 game" is generally "a game that requires a 2600", no matter with which additional hardware? Do you agree? Regards! Rasty.-

So are we saying that the Superchip games are not 2600 games? Regards, Rasty.-

The 7800 Crossbow is indeed a great game, plus one of the few 7800 carts I own.. but I don't know, I just kind of like the 2600 version's "polished" (or some may say "essential") graphics more Regards! Rasty.-

Yeah, and I can stop anytime! eheh Regards! Rasty.-

Hi Stan!! Thanks, I resumed posting some time ago but I still don't have all the time I wish to browse the boards! What if I do it just once... cmon just only one little tiny time? Regards! Rasty.-

Aaarghh I shouldn't have known.. now I'll be just forced to do it every time I play... too bad! :D Regards! Rasty.-

Let me second your appreciation to Chad: the CC opened several worlds to me as it allowed me to try basically all the games I wanted on an actual VCS and introduced me to 2600 programming...! Regards! Rasty.-

Hi Manuel! I always marvel at the playability of 2600 Dragonfire.. I can keep playing for a loong time (not on the same game of course ) and never get enough of it! I guess it's the challenge about getting perfect timing in the dragon room that makes me come back again and again. I don't play much 2600 frogger, maybe a little of the Supercharger one which sure looks sweet Anyway IIRC the Intellivision's kernel used to refresh screen at a much lower rate than we do on the 2600 (I guess it updated every 3 frames), so the games resulted in far less smooth in movements unless you programmed the hardware directly. And that dial... Also: Now it's the same, only we get less playability and more colors instead Regards! Rasty.-

That doesn't depend on the type of the console, but only on the cart you are using. So when you mod your NTSC console for RGB output and use PAL carts, it will create 50Hz. Very very true indeed! I assume he's not going to throw away his carts collection and replace it with PAL ones...! Ciao! Rasty.-

How come I was expecting Spike's Bologna instead? Rasty.-

Thinking of it, most Atari games were actually pretty scary to me as a kid, probably because of the loud/weird sound the 2600 pumps out and because of the plain weirdness of some games! I guess I used to getting scaried pretty easy eh? Luckily there was no Fatal Frame/Project Zero around when I was younger Regards! Rasty.-

AFAIK, you'll have to RGB mod your NTSC 2600 in order for it to display correct colors on a PAL tv set! Plus, as mentioned, the TV will also have to support 60hz of course.. but I think all do now! Good luck! Rasty.-

It would have probably been considered very nerdish/geekish even back then... therefore I would have loved one!! Regards, Rasty.-

I've also read they were bundled with Turbo...! Regards, Rasty.-

A friend once showed me a tic tac toe game he made where the computer was cheating: if it was going to lose, it'd have filled 2 blocks at once You initially don't notice it and keep playing and wondering why you never win Regards! Rasty.-

Ditto! Actually I was probably embarassed about having just a few games... Regards! Rasty.-

And of course, a good slice of it is coming form the 2600 homebrew scene earnings Regards! Rasty.-

I second your feeling that playing 2600 games that need precision movements with a joypad feels awkward.. actually I don't think I could play any 2600 game with a joypad.. That would not have that Atari-ish feel to me But of course everyone has personal preferences! Regards! Rasty.-

Yeah I was going to say... it's weird, although I have zero problems playing arcade games with the control on the left. And of course I have zero problems playing Game and Watch type control pads (i.e. every console since the NES).. Why couldn't I play a standard 2600 joystick backward.. it's weird but it definitely feels very odd even just holding it like so... I'm not sure I could do it. Strange Yes same here..! I think it's related to the fact that you keep the 2600 stick in your hand vs the arcade where it's fixed to the cabinet.. still kind of weird Regards! Rasty.-

Aww cmon, tell her we all grew up playing classic videogames and see how good we... hmmm.. well scratch that Regards! Rasty.-
