Sam here I'm not chop shopping my Gamecube. I've had it since the day it came out in 2001 and it still works perfectly. External tampering only. I'd rather use a stupid RCA to HDMI converter box from some shady no-name chinese parts maker than chop my console up.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/02/hackers_use_emulator_to_make_game_boy_mega_drive_and_snes_games_playable_on_nes_mini Now you can throw retroarch on there and run whatever the hell you want it appears. Video in link shows SNES, Genesis, 2600, Gameboy, Gameboy Color. I hate to admit it but I can't do it. I couldn't even get retroarch to work in Windows. The instructions are useless and the setup on it is confusing I erased it when I tried last year and I hate that because I've never had a windows program(emulator) I couldn't figure out in 20 years. Stupid ass thing installed but then I never could get it to load up one single rom and it got infuriating. I'd love to give it another shot though, be nice to consolidate emulators with something that just fires up cores under one application.

Unboxing 301 Nintendo Famicom Cartridges!
Tanooki replied to TPR's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Very nice seller, smaller supply but the prices can't be beat. I'd still suggest ryoplanshop for some really excellent deals and more variety too. You know maybe another thread around this one should be made, people can suggest less notable Famicom releases for buys since those tend to mostly be very cheap since they're under the radar. Not your usual list of Cocoron, Castlevania, Wai Wai World, Twinbee stuff. Things like that Legend of Valkyrie brought up earlier, maybe Dragon Buster(that namco gold cart), or even some known cheapos like Devil World. It could be fun we as many as there are here could keep an active thread rolling easily enough. Fun fact you can even buy the $300+USD BONK game for $20-25 as PC Genjin Famicom (it's what I did.) I sold my cart, used the money for better stuff and snapped up the Famicom release. -
I wish they'd make one of those adapters for the Gamecube. I'd buy it just to see if it would work if it's that cheap.

So much bitching about an ultimately half assed web browser like any console or handheld has had to date...senseless time wasting fight going on here. Also we're skipping the point here the guy said it wouldn't have one at launch, he did not say it would never have one. Did the Wii originally launch with a browser or the WiiU which was more or less broken out of the gate? I have some memory of them adding features later.
-
I've got both with an adapter for them Bangaioh and Sin & Punishment, can not recommend them highly enough. Also if you can get it (wish I'd just buy it already) Dezaemon 3D which is both a set of a few vertical shooters but it's also an engine to make your own too. That said off hand I'm surprised no one has suggested Star Soldier Successor to Earth as it's a phenomenally fun vertical shooter and it even has some hidden stages built into it too. I could easily list of the two Goemons, Conker, Banjo, the 1st party stuff go-tos including the 2nd party 007 and PD shooters but that's boring. Here's some fun odder stuff that's not Nintendo or Rare (more or less) - Bomberman Hero - Bomberman the 2nd Attack (if you can get it for a non-rapey price or have an everdrive) - Quest 64 (yes I know it gets panned but it is fun, just a solid B game) - Ridge Racer 64 (why I said more or less, it's amazingly good stuff Namco game but NST made it) - Mega Man 64 (aka Megaman Legends, audio isn't as good but gameplay/areas are improved as it came later) - Star Wars Shadows of the Empire (mostly 3rd person shooter but has a few flight/target shooting stages) - Extreme G or Wipeout64 your call on that one (or both) - Robotron 64 - Tetrisphere (and the Next Tetris) - Beetle Adventure Racing - DOOM 64 (it's not PC DOOM, it's a new game, it's very well done, it's hard, and resurrects a DOOM(1) Bible era super laser weapon to kill the final boss) - Mischief Makers If you do not have a Dreamcast keep reading... - Midway Arcade Hits and Namco Museum 64 - Star Wars Episode 1 Racer - Gauntlet Legends - Hydro Thunder - Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Those games are fantastic on N64 really shows some quality effort, aren't garbage like the PS1 conversions...look, sound, and play very well.

Unboxing 301 Nintendo Famicom Cartridges!

I can vouch for pal52 too, solid seller and he has historically in the last few years had some really nice prices on stand alone and his bundles are quite cheap too but I never popped on a grab bag like this. Also 2 more US based with value in their lists I've bought from: retro_saikou -- http://www.ebay.com/sch/retro_saikou/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654 shisochou -- http://www.ebay.com/sch/shisochou/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654 And from Japan, very cheap shipping, super friendly, they've packed in free bags of green tea in orders I did before, and they price very well (and no bs GSP shipping where it's like $15 for a gameboy game) ryoplanshop -- http://www.ebay.com/sch/ryoplanshop/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654 I've snapped up mostly Famicom off all of them but also Gameboy (from ryoplanshop) too. I'd recommend them all, still the US based ones if greed hasn't set in within the last year or so as I haven't bought in awhile. -
They didn't say they wouldn't have one, just not at launch to be clear about it. It could pop up a month or a year down the road, but it really isn't essential though being a handheld device it seems a little more odd than a wired in console. It's a given you'll get the usual streaming movie/youtube stuff on there but they won't talk that up either. Nintendo has always been about games and to a fault no less.
-
Not really, also the last thing the guy said didn't close the door on it. It just won't be there at launch. In reality though people be honest, raise your hands if you actively use a web browser built into a video game console, 3ds, or sony vita in the least bit. Also I think Bill is right, Nintendo systems since post-Gamecube have been companion boxes. You get something else to go with it. Switch probably if it's viewed as a console and not a docked portable will get the same vibe. Nintendo has a lot of 1st/2nd party unique experiences that qualify buying it, but in the gaps between you just never know what will pop up, and in there you get that PC or one of those consoles and fill the holes there if you need games that bad in your life and don't do other stuff too to fill the hours. It's not hard to be just a 1 system gamer, especially if you have a handheld device, a computer, or a touch device tablet/phone. People who have multiple consoles are just gaming addicts at this point with much time on their hands.

Pondering on purchasing a Playstation 4.
Tanooki replied to Nutsy Doodleheimer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've had a game maybe two on PS4 that were buggy out of the box that needed an over a GB sized download patch before it would start since it sniffed out an internet connection. You may run into issues, but without a connection the games should work as they were pressed at least for better or worse. -
This was a question about Castlevania on N64... Truth is, be careful, you have the unfinished (beta) they sold as Castlevania 64 which is a broken barely functional mess. Then 10mo later they released Castlevania Legacy of Darkness, which is the complete fully finished game originally promised because Konami sucks and bait and switched a lot of people (myself included.) CV64 only has the last 40% of the true game. Hit detection is broken. Camera moves on its own tossing you into death pits. FPS is wonky. Graphics muddy and dark. Jump physics broken (do the same jump twice it doesn't land the same place.) LOD though has the wolfman story to start, then henry the knight has a story rescuing kids over a few days (wolfman Cornell rescues him in his earlier game part) and then finally the old CV64 plays out on the back end. Collision, camera, bad jump physics, some of the mud and dark all fixed, and even added a 640x480 mode for the ram expansion. Games are night and day and I recommend it as nearly the best Konami game on the system and only functional 3D Castlevania game I'd put a stamp of approval on. Maybe later I'll come up with a nice list of must haves, it will include probably ports (like the excellent dreamcast/arcade titles from Midway.) I will throw out there bugs aside Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is the best copy of the game made on the N64 fixing up all the problem controls (swapped in Zelda64 control/lock on) and camera issues of the PC release.

Unboxing 301 Nintendo Famicom Cartridges!
Tanooki replied to TPR's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You know in a way I have the wrong way about it, but do have quite a few Famicom games too. I've got a NES shelled Supervision 115in1 cart, the mosty meaty of the Supervision packs in that it has the fewest repeats (97 or 98 unique titles) and it's a great selection as a space saver. Also late last year I got a FC Mobile 88 locally, dude had a modern Super Games 500in1 with it which has more Famicom on it, a couple hundred no name homebrew turds, but it also has many of the expensive NES titles people groan about as well. Between the two I've probably got 200 or so Famicom games on top of the real carts. That valkyrie game looks fascinating I really should look into that. I do love Famicom games, but it's hard to research so many of the things. A bulk pick up would be a neat thing to do, but then finding out how much is unplayable or just bad would be a shame in the time involved in sifting through all of it. Supervision has this: http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Supervision_115-in-1 This is what I have and I overguessed it (12 games, 13 with the boot) - Super Games 500 in 1 (Multicart) - Akumajyou Densetsu - Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa ("Baby Mario" - Famiclone) - Crisis Force (CI) - FC Genjin: Freakthropus Computerurus - Hello Kitty World - Gradius II - Mitsume ga Tooru - Parodius Da! - Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti - Twinbee 3: Poko Poko Dai Maou - Wai Wai World 2: SOS!! Paseri Jou - Yume Penguin Monogatari -
Over on Racketboy they said shooting for just under $300 for the system, and under $60 for each module. This thing is going to get expensive fast. Will that first element module with the basic Nintendo/Sega/TG systems on it be bundled with it? I can see them adding a full Gameboy(color/advance) module for a charge. Yet another for the SMS(and under)+Game Gear for another charge, perhaps tacking on 32X. But they also said they have 5 modules planned?! Well if we guess the one with the basics is a pack in at the $300 entry price, that's another $200-240 for the others. Suddenly if you have to get em all you're over $500 for an emulator box. You can get a far less crappy computer for that price that'll run every inch of that and well do what a computer does too as a bonus. How do they really expect this to get a lot of buyers? I could see the usual kickstarter suckermoney roll in, but would it be enough?
-
At this point I find with far reduced time I'm able + motivated to play I have no shame and will usually pick the easy option so I can just enjoy the story, but equally so I will just start on normal still and see how it goes. Even at $120~ for the scalpers on the NES CE even if you never hack the beast you're still $30 under the price of them one by one if you already have a Wii to get it on VC. Also keep in mind, the Wii won't likely last anywhere near as long, more parts and moving bits in it that'll fail far sooner than something as basic as the guts of the CE...plus it's HDMI too, how long until TV's drop those RCA cable jacks?

Tanooki replied to TPR's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Damn dude, I mean if this is like your one system to enjoy good job on being that focused to get a lot of variety to enjoy over time. I've got like 15 or so games, they're just in A-Z order and most of them do have top labels so they're sitting with that facing out on my rack. Just Splatterhouse is taller so it is at the end of the small stack to not hide the regular ones behind it in shadow. If I had that kind of dedication to just enjoy one system I think perhaps I could be more happier with my games too because I'd be forced to ignore other systems, ignore the new (or limit it to like one) so I could get the time to really kick things around a bit and discover. -
I know you weren't I probably should have quoted flojo since the comment started there but you picked up on it.

What's your favorite Super Mario Bros?
Tanooki replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yup, even if he's on point that can and will start an argument from both sides of the fence if management won't shut it down as it's a game site. -
You can 'dock' the Shield tablet too, not sure what you're getting at. You do realize the system uses a standard mini-HDMI port on the side and you just throw a cable into a TV and it actually can output at a higher level of quality than the tablet itself is capable of. In a way it's much like the Switch except you just use your choice of bluetooth controller instead of a pair of joycons. Flojo made a mistake selling it because what he just complained about I can do on my TV and it's marvelous. Also just to put it there, like Bill...I can't get into Witcher 3 level complexity games I've tried, too much going on and don't want to be stuck on just 1 game for a year either to 'experience' it. I've tried it with Dragon Age Origins from GoG.com and didn't get much into it. Diablo 3 is about the extent of complex for me as well as you can just jump back into it again and I have taken that down exp pack and all with one character and partly on a second. I'd love to attempt Skyrim on the Switch, but in reality I'm questioning if I'll be able to enjoy Zelda enough but I'm willing to give it a try. I figure if I get bored, pissed, or overwhelmed making no progress due to gross size I can sell it, it's a Nintendo game I'll get most of it back in a sale or trade.

Pondering on purchasing a Playstation 4.
Tanooki replied to Nutsy Doodleheimer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I doubt my opinion will be popular, but I'd say no, not unless you can get one for about 1/2 the going rate unless and only if you really are strongly into the Sony made/2nd party made exclusives. The PS4 and One are so wishy washy in how similar they are, they both get the same games and much of those do appear on Steam/PC. You'd be better off going that route as it maybe more costly up front for the computer, it can do hundreds of more useful things and you won't have to also pay $50/yr to use online features. Also factor in Steam has sales weekly and steeper holiday sales where those expensive $60 games drop to $30 or less and the general prices tend to drop anyway faster too which compounds in the sales. I'd find a console if you need one that has unique games or styles about it that would be a benefit to compliment what the PC(PS4/One) can already handle, again, only if you don't care much about Sony's personal IPs. I have a PS4 and the games just never arrived I cared about much and their own stuff was weaker (though pretty eye candy) than the PS3 stuff I adored so I just dumped my games and use it as a movie box now. -
GC came with composite. Nintendo store only sold direct component cables being too chicken to put them at retail. They stopped selling them about 1/2 into the GC's life, now flippers who have or find them will peddle the things for like $300 which is sick. So yes I agree, if you can get a cherry Gamecube with the HDMI jack added into it which gives it solid visual clarity the component cable gives if not more -- it's a value.' When they stopped selling the cable, sometime around/after they removed the digital video out port on the back of the Cube. I've got a launch day unit with the jack, and I imagine if I knew how to do the work and could handle it I'd love to throw a HDMI port into it.

Hey I was curious it was brought up that Centipede appears to be that 7800 to NES conversion ROM. I saw it mentioned some other games had this done. Is there a website that not necessarily hosts the games but discusses the conversion and perhaps some data/pictures about it? I'd love to see what went into that and which got the treatment. This came up in that Mini Arcade Classics thread but felt it would be best broken off that thread.

What's your favorite Super Mario Bros?
Tanooki replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ehhh I'd say that SMB3 is just as much 2 as 1. #2 to #3 some enemies, various lands based upon environment, pick up and carry-toss mechanics, differing behavior of the character based upon the suit(while it was the body itself in #2), a larger staple of detail and audio tracks style too. #1 brings back the return of the staple creatures and expanded variants and obviously koopa himself too. They both had a hand in really guiding the feel of SMB3 (and 4.) -
I wouldn't say the games are too hard, that's a cop out. You just don't want to apply yourself to get comfortable enough. Most of the games in the stock device I crushed in the 80s and 90s, still can do a few I imagine (more with some re-learning of things.) Save states can be used or abused. I'd just use them if I had to quit and didn't want to start over as it's a time saver when time is limited, and also in the case of FF1 a life saver in wasted time running back to town or dirt(tent/cabin) to save up. I'm sitting here really wishing I could get the nerve to do it, but it was a gift...I'm not going to hack mine but if I can get a 2nd it's game on as a top90something box up to the cap applied to the existing 30.
-
I'm shopping one at the moment. I probably could be less cost involved into it just finding a clean one that's loose, but being a nutbag when it comes to a few things I'm going to try and grab up the one I had back in the day I bought at retail, complete. That'll end up pushing the $100 mark from what I can see. I'm fine with that, given what the games end up costing this flash kit will more than make up for it. I just am uncertain if I'd still buy some real games, probably would, but then it would come down to loose carts or not. I loved the little boxes they had back then and the nice manuals they included. I'd not want to mix and match, gets annoying.
-
Glad you like it. As you can see I'm not a fighting game collector/player which probably is a bit odd when it comes to SNK and the Neo-Geo but I really got into the big red cab back in the day when the big kid on the block was I think the original Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown 1 which I'd like to snap up but they're cheap so a non-priority. The real kicker was 8Man when I got it. Bad listed went awesome on ebay. Guy listed it as just the game and note noting it but one image showed the marquee for it. I ended up paying less than the price of the game usually hits on ebay for the cartridge alone. The seller never once showed or mentioned all the rest. I flipped when I got it, the guy mailed it in a box with butcher paper over it. When I peeled the paper away I saw that 8MAN wrap over black print sticker/paper label on the box and mentally freaked. I opened it up, saw the matching serial on the cart, the bubbles, and under that the entire art kit with the dip switch paper fold out. I've never seen one pop up on ebay since last May, tried asking at that neo geo forum and got only wide guesses as it's just such an unknown for whatever reason other than I guess scarcity. And yes that NeoSaveMasta is a hell of a sweet kit for saving. It also has code setup internally if I picked up a UniBIOS where I could save my high scores on every single cartridge and tweak other bits. Without it still allows any game that sees it to save progress and scores if it was intended to on a stock BIOS. Oddly it hates multicarts. If that's in there I have to pull it back out to switch games again without flipping off the system, but also with unibios that would clear it up. I probably should get it, but I keep wasting time waiting as I caught Raz talking about updating it again and I'd hate to order and then have it outdated fast.
