  1. a) I would have bought a Jag if I ever would have had the money for it b) I would have bought it because of AvP c) I would have bought it, just because I thought the Hardware is awesome! And whether my purchase of a Jag would have helped or not, is not my point. What I said is that this game did certainly not create a *woooohoow* effect for potential costumers. Unfortunately like a lot of games. (And if you read about the backgroundstory about the development history of the game, I am not surprised, that the developers did not do their best job - I know that they did *much* better before on the ST.) Yes, of course you are right, no STE game ever showed such neat little trees in the park. And yes, those trees are gauraud shaded, but that does not help the entire optical appearance of the game. There are only very few objects with textures on them: the small tanks, the helis, and, I think some of the ground cannons. Ah yes, and the Fuel Tanks and the boxes you find. That's it. All buildings are -boring- vector blocks. And on very few of them, you can see something like windows, once you are close enough (pops, and suddenly they are there) And, how many Buildings are gauraud shaded? none of the skyscrappes are - only the buildings you have to "fight" are And, these polygons (even the shaded ones) are not 16 bit in depths.... They are grey, and dark grey on the other side. Maybe one side is light gray. Did you ever play Falcon F16 (or even better: F19) on a ST? This game was released in hmmm...' 89, '90). That looks pretty PHAT for running on a 8 MHz 68k machine.... That's pretty much what I had in mind as a refrence. No shadings, no nothing. And, I am wondering what you could have pulled of a F030 using the DSP properly. Never had a game in my hand, that used it - just some GFX development packages, and, oh boy, those things did create a *wow* effect. And I did say, that I played it on MEDIUM and I thought it was EASY. And even in medium you should NOT be able, to go almost through the entire game in one afternoon.... Ok, to make a long strory short: I did not BASH this game - but neither do I want to overpraise it. I am just saying that I was rather dissapointed after all what I heard about it. It is a cool game, no doubt about it. But it does not LOOK cool! (IS II LOOKS cool - even though you should not cp. a CD and a Cart game, right ? )
  2. Ok, had it in my mailbox this Weekend: a regular and a BRANDNEW SEALED copy of IS. Now, I think IS came out pretty late on the Jag? or am I wrong? I must admit - If I would not have known anything about the Jag or ATARI back in the day, and I would have seen this game at my friend's place - I certainly would have never bought a Jag! Sorry, but, hey - the GFXs are lame! I have seen graphix of similar quality on my STE (lower frame rate, so) Thinking about that ECLIPSE made this software, that is a sad result. Those guys used to be in the Demo Scene for ST/STE Computers and really coded some games and demos, that did ROCK . The game is too easy. Finished up 3/4 of the game in one! afternoon. (In medium). so, sad sad sad - specially since the game is fun and the idea is cool! BUT: I am still happy for my FIRST ORIGINALLY WRAPPED Jag Game
  3. no, unfortunately I don't have a copy - but funny enough I had the exact same thought the other week: "It has really been a while since I have seen the ATARI / ATARI Germany website... wonder who would have it?" so, if you find a copy - let me know
  4. Hi, quick questions for the folks: is the VLM a "built in" thing for the CD add on, or is it actually software? And: what is the blue lightning CD about?
  5. Yea, I guess, I can not expect an updated version with this bug removed from Atari soon, uh ?? About the security card: I thought I have been in that corner, reached it to the vents..... In one hidden part on Sub 3 I found (obviously) the machine gun. But there was no Sec. Card. In the other closed off section I did not find shit, really. but I guess I have to go back there and double check. But Sublevel 3 seemed to be right, since you are in a loooot of trouble going (specially) to sub 1
  6. Hey, got o few questions about AvP: 1) Playing the predator, it happens to me, that I sometimes cannot kill marines, but wal "into" them. is this a version specific bug, or is it a general bug?? 2.) where the heck is this freaking security card no. 2?? Checked the entire sublevel 3, 2 and 1. hmpf.... Thanks for any answers!
  7. Yea, it certainly is....
  8. yeay... That's right. Music for the Jillted People. Have it on tape. not labelled. and could not f*ing remember the name of the album anymore... Thanks!!!! :) good piece back in the day. Cool TV trailer, I think.
  9. I found this on the internet - the hp of the german ST-Computer: Why Sam...... why???S ection: Jaguar General [15]Forum: Atari GAMING+Date: Fre, 11. Nov 1994, 2:50:02 Uhr Here's the deal. Being on the Jaguar forum over the past few months have both given me highs and lows but nothing more in quantity than frustrations am 17 years old and by no means have seen or experienced as much as the other members of the forum and as such, don't have that mystique of an Atari entity, more like a Company that is the last U.S. video game manufacturer and had superior hardware and insufficient/inferior hardware in the form of the Lynx. Oddly enough, regardless of my "young" age, my first impressions of this Atari(remember, I haven't really ever heard of the trials and tribulations of the Atari computers and for all intents and purposes were dead with the exception of Lynx) company was that they were -top-heavy, disgustedly inefficient and deathly nearsighted. As the months wore on, I became aware of the CEO Sam Tramiel's m.o. and realized my above mentioned diagnosis of Atari was correct. Believe it or not, I in my 17 years on this planet like to think, and rightfully so, that I am very knowledgeable of the video-game world because always, from the days of Intellivision and Coleco, my interest was not only as a fan but an keen observer -- making notes on what succeeded, what failed, and why.1993 arrives, my 8-Bit NES has taken its permanent re-assignment to the duty of door-stop, my TG-16 is a painful reminder that things don't always play out the way they should, and my SNES continues(d) to amaze me with the things programmers were able to pull off even from the very FIRST titles available for the system. Anyways, I hear about this new, 16-Bit Panther now turning into a *-64-Bit-* system called the Jaguar. My God I thought! Even bad games will at least have to sound and look good anyway, and, what's this? Its made in America!!!! Christmas '93 arrives, I'm the Nintendo rep. at my TRU, getting a real good idea of how customers feel about what's hot and what's not. People ask me, "Which is the best system? Not one of these under-powered ones?" I respond that by far, the Jaguar is the most advanced system on the planet, twice as powerful as the 3DO. But, I say, remember the Lynx?? GameBoy is 8-Bit, GameGear is 8- Bit, and the Lynx was the Only 16-Bit handheld capable of even scaling and rotation. Where is it now?? The Lynx is a case of superior hardware and inferior/insuffecient software. And of the software that did come out, none were of the popular titles your kids would want. I feel the same thing will happen to the Jaguar. Boy was I right. Regardless, time progressed, I bought a Jaguar off of a friend whom I had been preaching to not to get rid of his Jaguar because AvP was going to be out in July '94. He didn't listen and I got the system.1 threw up when I saw Cybermorph and Trevor McMac. What a disgusting pair of insults I thought to myself, How dumb do they think we are?? I then pictured these games being programmed overnight and being rushed out so they can say that they have games out. Months roll by and still the games on the back of the Jag box aren't even released! I myself looked forward to getting Tiny Toons for my sister. I join this forum, and am delighted to read Atari info which none of the "big" mags would allot because they're too busy ooooohing and aaaaahing over the 3DO. I read in this forum these great SCES press-releases and AEO magazines. This is cool I'm sayin, finally things are looking up for my Jag. To make a LONG story short(skipping the frustration of the nation-wide "releases" and how to this day I can't find WF3D or BSF or AvP on my Blockbuster Video shelfes and being mocked at by my EB reps.), here we are, holiday season 1994. Atari makes excuse after excuse and delay after delay on all the "must-be-released" games and accessories.1 sit here listening to music thinking this rotten slob Tramiel!! My God, how many companies out there would love to have the clientelle Atari has!! We actually sit here, brainstorm how a company can produce products so we'll buy them and give them a profit, get pied off when there arent enough of a product to spend money on, and we want a new, more expensive accessory(CD- ROM) to spend money on. We go out and actually advertise by word of mouth to our friends and relatives, celebrate when we see a commercial on a mediocre at best time slot, and raise bell when our company doesn't do enough to sucker in more customers, AND WE'RE NOT EVEN IN CHARGE!!MR. TRAMIEL, IN THE ONE YEAR I HAVE GOTTEN TO "KNOW" YOUR MEANS OF OPERATION, I HAVE BECOME DISGUSTED DOWN TO MY VERY TOE-NAILS WITH YOUR INEFFECIENT AND NEARSIGHTED WAY OF RUNNING THINGSWHILE YOU WATCH ATARI STUMBLE OVER ITS OWN FEET, RIVALS ARE STRENGTHENING THEIR ALREADY EXISTING BASE AND PREPARING FOR THE TRUE NEXT LEVEL.PLEASE, ******PLEASE******** GIVE THE REIGNS TO SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE YOU ARE JEOPARDIZING ALOT OF GOOD PEOPLE'S CAREERS BY TOYING WITH ATARI, A COMPLETLY UNACCEPTABLE ACTIVITY YOU HAVE MADE YOUR MONEY, THE TIME FOR PLAY IS OVER. I URGE YOU FOR THE GOOD OF ATARI AND EVERYONE WHO WORKS FOR IT, DO THE MATH, AND PLEASE, STEP DOWN.
  10. I believe the LED Color has nothing to to with NTSC or PAL. When I played in the very beginning AvP (back in 94) in Germany, my friend's jag had a red LED - and there we are on PAL....
  11. Where the heck is the security card #2 in AvP ??? I think I checked all dead people twice so far..... * I see dead people*
  12. Hi all... What do you guys know about DarkBasic? Just heard about it, checked out there HP and it reminded me a little bit of on of those "DemoMakers" from back in the day, where you can't do really anything but attaching some cloned effects to each other. Each created Demo had about as much character as an MS Word 1.0 File . But Hey - things might change, and since today's PC games have the same amount of character, why not. I am just looking for some reviews here, I guess..... Now... If you want to create a Voxxel based Landscape, environment, what Software/Programming environment/engine would be recommended or be worth to check out?
  13. Now, that is good new Guess I will start than the import process . Would be kinda hard to find just a poper supply, would'nt it? do you know, what the power consumption of a F030 was - or, what Power consumption (in Watts) the origignal Power supply was made for? Just in case, I could work with an adapter..... Thx for the welcome!
  14. Why the heck do all the good companies out there go into bankruptcy?? So, I think the actual framerate in AvP is better. At least the framerate in RR seems to be lower from what I have seen on the video (see link above). But, hey, you played it, right
  15. anybody here ever played the Castle Wolfenstein on the C64?? now, that was a game, men! :D
  16. yea, I found the link yesterday http://atarivision.jaguarhq.net/ But they stopped showing the game right after the intro... Hmm, but what I have seen is, that it was actually not that fast of a gameplay. I did play this game on a PC (RISC PC with PI 100 Mhz PC card) and it was nice and fast and playable. And of course I tryed to play it on a F030 (as a matter of fact, I played it there first). But it was so rediculously slow. The portation from PC to 68030 was not that great, and none of the F030 features (DSP, MathCoChip) have been used. Maybe the Jag conversion was not that great either? How is the gameplay on the Jag?
  17. Does anybody know, wether the Falcon030 Poper supply (German Version, 220V, 50...60 Hz) does support also 110 V ? My Falcon is still over in Germany, and if I would find a cheap and easy way to hook it up here (US), I would like to import it...
  18. No freakin way Jason! One of the coolest games I have played - besides Dungeon Master.... Hm, ok, if this game is available for purchase, than I would buy it. If that would never happen, than, I hope you don't mind sharing> keep me posted please...
  19. wow.l all theses are impressive stories... I bought my F030 in Germany when they were finally available there. I think that was.. hm..... winter 93/94. But at this point they were really available. I ordered mine over the phone - it was at my house one week later. . I guess, that is because the professional atari market was quite huge in Germany and France - other than in the US I think. I did work for Boehringer & Roche. In both companies I worked with ST's a lot. As texting machines and also in some lab application. So, yea, I guess, atari just focused on the european market.. Anyhow - I liked my falcon. but honestly - after I got my RISC PC I did not really use it anymore. I LOOOVED that OS (RiscOS.) But I do whish that ATARI would have had the power to come up with more and newer Falcon Models, maybe based on DSP/Jag technology. Would have been really cool. I think, one thing they missed out on was, to develop a nice looking GUI. GEM was good. but.. maybe even in 94 not quite up to date anymore...
  20. naja - mine is sitting in my beedroom closet at my parents house - in good old germany. Don't need it really - but, It does not eat any bred. so what. But I think, I don't have the original packaging anymore... damn...!
  21. ok, so, you do have almost all games for the Jag.. hm, it does not happen to be, that you are the proud owner or Robinsons Requiem on CD??? Do you know, can I use European Cartridges in US Jags????
  22. Mold rights are indeed very copyrighted (or at least, they should be). But maybe our beloved company forgot about, to do so. Would not really surprise me. So, I guess ATARI just sold the rights. But this is just a guess...
