Just wanted to share a little experience I had last night. I have my kids for a few weeks this summer. After putting my little ones to bed, I powered up the 2600 and started messing around with Warlords. My four year old snuck out of bed and asked what I was doing. I gave him the second paddle and we played a quick five rounds. The final score: 3-2. First time on an Atari 2600 and the little guy beat me!! Such a proud moment!! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Did you ever get thrown out of a computer store?
Captain Kiwi replied to Keatah's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
My girlfriends grandfather decided that his computer wasn't working (nevermind that I could have fixed it for him... but I won't go into all the problems he has just using a computer in the first place.) Anyhow, he decided to get a new laptop. Went to the glory that is Wal-mart ( ) Found a cheap Chromebook and asked the associate if it was a Windows 10 computer.. to which she replied "Yes." (According to him anyway) Two days later I was at his house working on the original computer, when h came to me about his "brand new laptop" that had WIndows 10 and it wasn't working right. I had to break to the poor guy, that the moron at Walmart had no idea what they were talking and that Chromebooks suck. -
Did you ever get thrown out of a computer store?

I never got kicked out, but I had the manager talk to me about "correcting" her employees. In the mid nineties, I decided to "test" one of the employees and asked if software that listed a Pentium processor in its system requirements would work on a computer with a Celeron chip. He said "No" but I could probably find a patch that would allow it to run. I loudly laughed at him and (being a teenager and a bit of a jerk) called him a moron and told him it would work. The exchange alerted the attention of the manager who was near by. She quickly came by and defended her employee basically saying I was just a kid and had no idea what I was talking about. My parents collected me and we left the store shortly after. That was at CompUSA, where I would also sit in on their free "web design" class and correct the person "teaching" the class, and jump in on their Quake 2 (and then 3) "tournaments" and mop the floor with everyone that sat down. Fun times! -

I was born in the early 80's, so I grew up in the 90's. I did a lot of gaming on the PC and loved the in game "achievements" you could receive (for example, playing missions of Wing Commander over and over and over until I could get the highest score I could possibly get.) When I got my XBox 360 (which lasted a surprising 4 years before it died completely.. unlike my 40 year old 2600 that still works perfectly), I enjoyed trying to unlock the different achievements. A few years ago, I learned this was not a new thing and that back in the the good old days of the Atari 2600 "achievement patches" were sent to players achieving certain scores. Who remembers these or ever got one? Developers should stop giving these online achievements and bring back the patch and letter system!!

I was lucky and found a top loader in this storage shed my girlfriends grandpa was cleaning out. He gave it to me to tinker with. After some cleaning... It worked beautifully. Go for the original... Not an emulation! -

Boot the wife or boot the Apple?
Captain Kiwi replied to Keatah's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Just remember.... The Apple will keep you warm at night. When you have a rough day at work... Your Apple will "tell" you everything will be okay. Your Apple won't care if you go out with your friends. And your Apple will not make you choose. Keep the comp, ditch the wife. But then again, I've been married and divorced twice... So I may not be the best person to give advice on this. In reality though, she should realize that this equipment is important to you. And even try to understand why its important. My girlfriend did that with my BBS and my retro gaming and found that she likes it. If she hasn't already tried to understand. .. She may find that she enjoys it (or at least isn't hostile towards it.) There could always be a deeper issue that is bothering her and the anger about the computer equipment is an outlet for that concern she has. I hope everything works out for both of you. -
Atari finally came in. A/V cord was cut, but replaced it and it's working great now!

How much is the most money you have spent on a single game?
Captain Kiwi replied to Shawn's topic in Poll Forum
If you count a game plus expansions plus the monthly subscriptions, plus paying real money for ingame items... then well over $1000. If, just a game, then about $100 for a collectors edition.
