  1. Please tell me the libretro version is the same as the RetroArch^^. I was now able to test in RetroArch. It won't start my BIOS... I guess it is confused by the preceding Kanji part... As a reminder: Phoenix did pick up my BIOS. I was just too stupid to figure out how to load disks and or how to make the emulator eat disks as even genuine panafz1.bin were not accepted.
  2. This is so typically me =) Thanks trapexit. I might try the libretro version some day. Probably next I will try with real chips.
  3. I have tried that. While it did not work for me, I am fine =) I will test real chips on real hardware instead as soon as they arrive.
  4. It still says: The bios file "path\name" failed to load. Please choose another. The only SAOT ROM I ever saw was located at the Kanji space
  5. It isn't picking up the BIOS file.
  6. 4DO refuses to load the SOP44 BIOS (both vanilla and changed). Maybe because it doesn't know it. I am thrilled though that Phoenix "comes as far" with the SOP44 BIOS as it does with the SOP32 one =)
  7. Hm Phoenix does use my SOP44 BIOS ROM, but won't find disks (starts though). I just included my BIOS. I don't have to select a "FMV-ROM" and "FONT-ROM", right? And "CD-ROM" is presumably the game. EDIT: No, I clearly make something wrong... Phoenix won't allow me to load games even with stock FZ-1 SOP32 ROM.
  8. I am sure "someone" will give you the bios at some point inofficially Before I show mine to any people I complete my experiments though. I hope you understand. it would be sweet it 4DO would support it. 3doplay did not use it. It runs all my stock BIOS and the ones I hacked. But I doesn't make use of the SOP44 one... both vanilla and hacked.
  9. I found the identity of some pins (Vcc, Gnd, NC) by looking at the board, and tried all ICs with that pattern brute force. None are direct swap, as the identities which allowed me flawless reading all assumed 3.3 V while the real chip is run at 5 V. I have to take a look for a header^^ On the decryption: That's why I read the chip. I remove the code part that prevents encrypted data to be read by the console. I think my 44SOP PCB would have been the next step, made for arcades. As with the Japanese PCBs you had to decide for Kanji OR Arcade Bios, while the 44 SOP PCB has the 32 SOP solder pads free for future add ons.
  10. With a programmer. I succeeded now, (the pin that broke was NC) but I had to assume a chip identity that is 3.3 V, while my board runs on 5 V. I now ordered both 3.3 V normal a*s chips and 5 V tolerant, pin compatible, 3.3 V chips. On these I write back the bios and test. Thanks to you, kind Sir I can compare know the Kanji portion of my BIOS with the dedicated Kanji ROM chip ROM =) Until know I just know it's "a Kanji" code, but know I can see whether it is the same =)
  11. I think I succeeded in soldering a wire to the ripped off leg. I got a file with readable contents. The 3DO emulator 3doplay is overwhelmed however. It's what I usually use when checking hacked BIOSes... a pity. But I burn the altered version soon back and install the chip into the console. I can guess from that whether I was successful. EDIT: Wow just found the hidden credits in the BIOS^^ so probably worked, as they were in all other versions I altered so far =)
  12. Hey you 3DO enthusiasts. Has anybody of you read the 3DO FZ-1 SOP44 Bios? That's the one with the Kanji included. I tried today, but a leg broke off :-(
  13. Hello I know here are many 3DO developers. Today I attempted to read the FZ-1 Bios of the variant which has the Kanji too included (SOP44, title is wrong). Sadly I ripped a leg. Does anyone have this particular bios? This is of course no request to put it into the Internet, as this would be illegal. But if you have it, please get in touch with me. With kind regards Ben
  14. The topic following in the forum did not work for some reason this time :-( Thank you very much, Shawn. I have to be very concentrated and do many audio takes to get it decent.
  15. Hello I did adapters for the Sega Light Phaser and wired Super Scope compatible light guns which allow us to play MACS. I write here because the latter adapter should also work with ordinary Super Scopes too. Sadly I don't have one and I can't test. So is here somebody with: - Super Scope - SNES controller prolongation cable - SNES SD cartridge If so I would be super intrigued to hear whether it also works for the real thing. The schematics are yet only in a YouTube video I did: https://youtu.be/DaTAoMQig8k
  16. Hello I am looking to get a hold a Stack Light Rile for the ZX Spectrum. Any condition will do, as long as the connector is on it. I would like to reverse engineer the electronics inside the connector of the gun to build adapters which can be used with more common guns such as Magnum Light Phasers, Sega Light Phasers, and Cheetah Defenders. Has anyone that gun? Could a picture be posted of the contents inside the connector? I even put a bounty on it. Put me to a guy selling it, and I will send you 50 USD if I succeeded getting the gun from that person. With kind regards Ben
  17. Hello I recently saw the My Life in Gaming episode in which they mention that some Japanese FZ-1 have a A/B switch which toggles between 480i and 240p. Today I opened my FZ-1 to change its BIOS. At this opportunity I discovered that all other Japanese FZ-1 have the necessary elements for the 480i / 240p switch on PCB, yet non-populated. Could somebody with a Japanese FZ-1 and switch make a photo of the PCB part on the back of the console, which makes up the switch? thanks =) With kind regards Ben EDIT: I have a somewhat strange PCB though: It's Japanese but lacks IC340 (where people belief the Kanji are saved; I guess mine has them at a different place)
  18. Sorry for digging out old posts but I have an update: I have my gaming rig now complete with multiple floppy drives and hard drives, from all of which I choose and connect before booting the computer, allowing me to enter e certain configuration for a certain epoch. The lesson learned: The Windows 9X DOSs doesn't seem to be less compatible to the "real" DOSs. If you have DOS problems, better start fiddling with your graphics card and or sound card. However it will be your sound card's fault though^^ I don't regret this lesson, it was very exiting installing DOS from floppies and then putting Windows 3.1 over it =) Wasn't that pleased for a long time.
  19. The resolution is low, it is hard to see on the photo... I do web stuff since 2004 and I still compress all my web stuff as it was back then with slower internet, just for being ecological.
  20. That's a cool idea^^ But personally I keep my own multicard loose with the system. You see, I did similar other Odyssey stuff, all these are all lose anyways. So for me personally It makes no big difference =) Also the Ulysses I am doing is a bare PCB on a isolated base plate. I like looking at FRA4 =)
  21. The odyssey works on short circuit and interruption which alters the game logic of the main unit. Plug in in my cart will short circuit pins 4 and 2 which powers the system (turn the system on). Besides that, nothing happens. Now you would read the white instruction on the surface. They tell you which short circuits to establish (by flipping a DIL switches) in order to recreate a game.
  22. Hello Sadly I noticed that the Magnavox Odyssey games have risen in price. Personally I want to preserve light gun gaming as much as possible. Therefore I started to do a multi card which can be used as cards 9 & 10. Then I realized that this was a waste of silicon an time and that I should better make a 12 in 1 mutli card. Myself I just own 3, 9 & 10 so I was very into the idea once I had it. Here is a picture of the final card: I put all the PCB files onto my website, so everybody can print one for personal usage. I uploaded the files as GERBER and as .brd files (I prefer the latter...). I wish you all happy gaming! Here is a short video of proof, which shows that the little thing actually works: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFJGMqS9hTI&t=4m27s
  23. He just does DVDs. That said I warmly recommend his games. Great stuff, made with passion.
