Just a heads up... I fixed a few things:
- Items should appear in the appropriate places for each level. Also fixed some graphical issues with them (i.e. coffee cup missing top line, etc...)
- Added extra life bonus for every 10,000 points.
- After completing level 6, the levels should loop back around without ending up at the title screen.
See first post for updated version.
There seems to be a new bug in the updated version for 1-8-19
I'm not sure what does it, but sometimes I have lost a life and the game won't roll over to the next life in the game. It just gets stuck and pressing the button just cycles between the score and the amount of lives and salts you have in inventory.
I never encountered this with the previous build.

Will you be releasing a rom so we can play it?
I didn't read between the lines, sorry. -
I uh...

This looks great. Sadly, I couldn't get it to work on my encore

Encores running an older BIOS (see reply 341) have trouble with some versions of the DPC+ driver. Try replacing the driver you're using with this one:
I've not done much with bB, an incomplete Star Wars game done with my nephew and ported one of my sound drivers, but it looks like the DPC driver is in the includes directory and is called DPCplus.arm. To replace it:
- unzip the new driver into the includes directory
- rename DPCplus.arm to DPCplus_orig.arm (so you can rename it back if something goes wrong)
- rename DPC+20121020.arm to DPCplus.arm
In the mean time I've patched your ROMs from the initial post to use the new driver so Encore uses can try it out:
DD_NTSC_88WindyMiller.bas_encore.bin
DD_v64_NTSC weathervane.bas_encore.binThis was done via the command line on my Mac using the following commands, which will also work on Linux. Can be done using Windows as well, but the commands would be different.
dd skip=3 count=29 if=DD_NTSC_88WindyMiller.bas.bin of=wm29k.bin bs=1024 cat DPC+20121020.arm wm29k.bin > DD_NTSC_88WindyMiller.bas_encore.bin dd skip=3 count=29 if=DD_v64_NTSC\ weathervane.bas.bin of=wv29k.bin bs=1024 cat DPC+20121020.arm wv29k.bin > DD_v64_NTSC\ weathervane.bas_encore.bin
Thank you!
Muddyfunster, This game is very well done! I really enjoyed Sky Diver, so to see something like this be built is really fantastic. I think with some sounds added, you're really close to a fun and impressive release! Thank you for creating this.

if I could make one suggestion. It would be nice if the title screen showed your last score after you lose.
-
This does not seem to work on the Harmony Encore.
-
Yup, the Encore version worked. Maybe worth putting a link into the original post? Really great game. The amount of options are astounding.
-
WOOOOOW this has come a LONG way. Really well done. I know it is a WIP but I look forward to a cart release of this. At least I'm hoping for one. This is the Burger Time the Atari deserved.

Ok... this is game is simply brilliant. What an easy to grasp concept, really well executed. This is right up there with Amoeba Jump for me. Highly addictive and sometimes counter intuitive. Congratulating you on your coding isn't enough, congratulation on a great design. THAT is really something to be proud of. I love it.

That one is interesting! I have to check what could be happening here. In slow motion it looks like the spider disappears even before the ant is eaten. Maybe the tongue passing a tunnel is part of the bug trigger?
BTW: If anyone is testing with Stella, please enable the Time Machine. That way you can move back in time and create early savestates when you encounter a bug.
I guess I never considered the tongue as a sprite... but it totally is isn't it? So there are 4 characters in that tunnel. Is it possible the tongue and the spider are on the same bank and its just turning the spider off? I'm curious as a developer, My understanding of bankswitching is extremely limited, but I find it interesting.
I can say this, if I am trying to bug the spider, I can do it just about every game. It doesn't always happen the same way, but there is something consistent here.

This version's still under development, things like 3 shots to kill Evil Otto are still on the To Do list.
Arcade graphics are a possibility, similar to Space Rocks where you can choose Vector or Solid graphics as well as color to match the arcade version. That does depend upon there being enough free space to implement it, though is unlikely if I add back the digitized arcade voice samples.
I just got done playing this build for the first time. It's fantastic! Everything about this game is a blast. My 2 cents, if it's between a berzerk graphics switch and voice samples... I'd rather have melody voice samples.

Nice! I like this one too.
It's very "risk vs. reward". Still, a determined person could just keep aiming for this in the first round and roll the game. That would be a very patient person... but they exist

-
oooooook It may not have anything to do with overlapping! I think it has something to do with having three bugs on the same tunnel (ant, slug, and spider) and eating one; either the ant, the slug, OR the queen ant. Maybe it's happening in the bank switching? Doing this seems to make the spider vanish for good.
night begins at 1:35 and it happens on the first spider-

whoop found another one... this time I caught it on camera. If you retract and hit the spider as it drops between levels, you can capture the spider and it will let you continue to play. I kinda like this bug because it is repeatable but a little knacky.

You can actually see the path I took to cause the bug. It happened in the third tunnel, and youll notice the path taken to get the queen ant. Granted, I was trying to make this happen, but it's interesting I was able to duplicate the bug in a totally different manner.
-
Here's the result after the bug occurs. This time it happened when I ate a queen ant and the spider and slug overlapped. The spider was about 3 tunnels down, triggered a slug to the left by pointing my tongue tip to the left, then shooting to the right and eating an on coming ant. Then headed to the queen ant. When the spider and the slug overlapped, I ate the queen ant. This also caused for the spider to never come back. I point pressed for about 5 or 6 nights until I just gave up. I think I racked 20+ slugs and about 20k points on level one then just kamikazed an ant. I I will try and set up a camera and capture it happening next time.
-
Spider and ant right side of the screen moving left. Ant just a bit ahead of the spider.
-
I've been trying to replicate it for a day now. It was on the second level and the first spider of the night on the first life of that level. So basically I had survived on the same life until nightfall. Some how the spider and the ant on the top tunnel overlapped, the ant was closer to the tounge than the spider so I ate the ant... And the spider went with it. A second spider did not regenerate after this happened until I died.
I was caught so off guard that I didn't notice of the spider gave any points for this action. I have tried but have not replicated a scenario where the ant and the spider overlap in the same way.

Space Instigators+

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but after I updated the bios (Beta 5) on my Harmony Cary (Encore), the original Space Instigators rom is screwed up. It still loads but bits are out of whack and you can't see the players sprite. I tried re-downloading and loading the rom with the same issues. However, SP+ plays just fine.
