  1. I'd also add that if the R77 is ever updated with SDL2 and Stella 5, it could probably also be upped to 1080p output. I suspect the current 720p limit is again because of software rendering and no acceleration. If hardware acceleration became available, for Stella jumping from 720p to 1080p would be a minuscule difference of CPU/GPU usage.

On my systems, there is no difference in CPU usage when running Stella at 800x600 vs. 3840x2160. Video output is a solved problem; use the 3D acceleration present in every piece of hardware released in the past 10+ years.

Do you have any contact with them? Do you know if they are planning on doing it? Or is Hyperkin dropping this like the reteon5 and running away?

  2. People here yes, but the casual buyers probably not. Imo it's already expensive, this should be a 40-50$ console.

If you wanna target the people here then they should make a 200+$ Atari on a chip console that does everything. But I doubt that more than a few hundred people would buy it, making it hard to make a profit.

  3. So from what I read here the hardware should be able to run the newest Stella? I was afraid that it would be too weak, but this helps a bit.

I'm getting mine in soon. (Hopefully monday!)

  4. So do you think there is a software fix possible to get the 77 to read the carts that it currently doesn't read as there?

Maybe tell it to read for a cart whenever it is powered up, regardless if it sees one or not. Then if nothing comes up move on to the menu??

Or make it do something when a certain button is pressed in the rom menu.

  5. You're very welcome Coolcrab, very unique and fun game! I have definitely never played a 2600 game like it! It's too bad Hyperkin didn't have any instructions for the homebrew games included in the system so I did my best at looking up the instructions online at the last minute. Thanks for the explanation of the scoring and tactics!

Here's the Twitch LIVE show that happened last night archived on our YouTube channel for those of you who missed our unboxing and built-in homebrew playthrough:

You guys lost some time each time a star left the screen because you have to 'wait until the next night'. So you get a time penalty. That's when the line becomes red.

And the number at the bottom of the main screen is your high score. (you got 3 at the end)

And yes the score is your time counting down, and you get extra time when you fill a bar fully.

  7. To me it's the joy of playing my physical collection. Ofc I could sell it all and play roms but for some reason that doesn't work for me. I never touch steam or my flashback portable but I do enjoy looking through my cart collection and picking something to play. I have no idea why tbh.

  8.

its the me me me take take take i want it now world we live in, doubly so now that we have millenials writing legal contracts...

Millennials with 0 experience in writing legal contracts! But if it helps, I worked in observatory that is now a law faculty. So we totally used the same toilets etc.

Anyhow I asked them to make their own or compensate me, especially after Andrew emailed that he figured that it's up for grabs since it's on AA.

  9. They used my contract as their general contract now. Am I their legal team now? This is so weird.

    https://blogs.findlaw.com/free_enterprise/2011/11/legal-to-use-someone-elses-contract.html

Contracts Are Subject to Copyright Protection

Copyright protection extends to all works that are “original” and “fixed” in a tangible form of expression. Traditionally, most people think only works like music, art or books can be copyrighted. But legally speaking, contracts can be subject to copyright protection as well. So if you lift someone’s contract word-by-word without their permission, you could be violating the law.

Not planning to sue or anything, but this is just weird. They could have asked....

  10. I have an extensive gameboy collection and then went over to NES and mega drive and started watching some retro gaming channels on youtube.

Eventually I found a very good deal online for an Atari + like 20 games and I really loved it. It's simple and easy yet hard and challenging. And ideal for sort play sessions. (I hardly ever have time these days so big RPG's are a Nono.)

Then I found out that people program for the Atari and then I definitely got hooked.
