What are some good 8-bit cartridges to buy?
Atari Nut replied to 7800Lover's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The Atarimax MyIDE-II. https://www.atarimax.com/myide/documentation/ -
Cool. Keep us posted on your progress.

I was thinking about how to see longer filenames and I thought about just one panel instead of two. The 1st left position of each row could be used for the drive number and the rest of the row could be the filename. You can navigate to the row you want and then hit a number key (1- to assign it a drive. That number would show up in the 1st left position of that row. Assign other drives as needed and then just hold Option and press Reset and the system would boot the image assigned to drive 1. Would something like this be possible?

I prefer the 2600 Superman. I still wish someone someday ports it to the 8-bit systems.
-
Well, there are people selling them for higher than that right now on ebay. Probably not the going rate since they are not moving.

What about him?

Whatever became of Adventure II for the A8?
Atari Nut replied to Larry's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I'm in for one! -
My CRT is built in 2004 and it outputs the correct reddish-brown background with gold lettering.
-
What is "pretty old"?
-
I also reached out to Gary Winnick of the Lucasfilm Games team. For those who may be interested, he explained the design of the logo screen... "I actually do remember creating that logo screen, at the time it was somewhat unique as I had recently learned how to create the metallic/metal effect using the Atari GTIA mode which allowed for 16 shaded variations of an individual color and if you put that gradient next to an inverted version of the same it created a unique (for the time) carved metallic look. Additionally, since the logo was supposed to look like it was carved out of gold - that the brownish, reddish, yellow version would be the most correct to our original intent."
-
I would like to add that we now have confirmation from two Lucasfilm Games developers who worked on these games. I contacted Dave Levine and David Fox to inquire about this. Mr. Levine stated in the intro, the lettering and the animation elements are gold against a red background. Mr. Fox stated it was supposed to be a golden color with a brown background. If it was green, then the TV was out of adjustment. Mr. Fox also supplied me with the following reference image. With the UAV in my 130XE, my colors are really close to this image on a CRT.
-
How do you know? I tend to believe the reddish intro color on a CRT is correct and the greenish color on an LCD is not.

Based on Atari 400/800 Field Service Manual, there is simple way to adjust the color pot on NTSC Atari computer. Have your Atari switched on to for at least 15 minutes to warm up. SETCOLOR 2,1,8 REM CHANGES BACKGROUND COLOR TO 1, PRESS RETURN SETCOLOR 4,15,8 REM CHANGES FRAME COLOR TO 15, PRESS RETURN Then adjust Atari color pot to make background color and frame color match as close as possible.

SDrive-Arm (SDrive2) issues/questions
Atari Nut replied to gargoyle's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I trying Castle Wolfenstein and I get the message to "Remove Write Protect From This Disk! Then Reinsert And Press The Start Key." How do I tell SDrive-Arm to do that? -
Disregard, I finally got it. Very interesting.
-
Interesting. I tried this but I must have done something wrong. I thought I set things correctly. I "found" the sun and started the progression. The sky didn't get darker and I didn't see the moon. When I "found" the moon, it was below the horizon. Could you elaborate a little on how you did this?
-
Thanks for the link but yea, it appears unfinished. Sounds are missing and the game doesn't play correctly. Too bad.
-
I'm looking forward to Adventure II XE.
-
However, using a CRT with composite cable, the intro screen is now reddish.

Berzerk 5200 vs Berzerk 800 - Something for Fandal
Atari Nut replied to Heaven/TQA's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Reviving this old thread... The Atari 8-bit Berzerk is a prototype. Has anyone (Glenn?) done a 5200 conversion so we have a complete game? -
I have the 5200 Adventure II and I plan on getting the XE version when it gets released. I was curious about the Flashback 2 version which is a 2600 version like Adventure but with a different, more complex layout... That Night Driver is nice. Wish there was an NTSC version. Thanks.

Has anyone ported any of the following 2600 titles to 8-bit? Adventure II (AT Games Flashback 2 Version) Maze Craze Haunted House Night Driver Return To Haunted House (AT Games Flashback 2 Version) Superman

Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the link and info. The scanlines look good. I just saw the price of this thing! WOW!

The overlay sounds interesting. Are there any pict out there showing this? I have both atari to s-video and atari to composite cables. The composite cables give me color in some games that the s-video doesn't. For the 800xl or 130xe, will there both these cables work?
