If you haven't doen so yet: Open the 800 up and check if the RF cable is properly connected inside. When you're in there anyway check for a broken RF cable with a multimeter. Do not over tighten any screws when you reassemble the case.

Not on Ebay, but on Marktplaats, a Dutch auction site owned by Ebay: A nice clean unmodified boxed 800XL with type 1 keyboard (great!) for 30 euros, a Philips CM8833 CRT monitor in exchange for some spring flowers (local pick-up). And to check out the other side: a C128 with 1571.

Is this on a LCD screen? Then maybe you could try your 800XL with a CRT. LCD chipsets can really mess up legacy video signals. Although I've never seen it like this.

Getting a NES classic made me think about my 8 bit Ataris back in the days. I got on this forum and read about this truly amazing cart. I still have a 65XE and an 800 stored away. Please add me to the list. I will send a PM and hope enough carts can be produced in the long run.
