okay so i see we're pussyfooting around the reality. i dont have any problems dropping it. i do a lot of in depth analysis of these people and their consoles.
hardcore gamers are some of the dumbest fucking people on the planet. they have lived their whole lives playing only xbox and playstation at this point and probably dont even know what sega is. we are talking people who have played games for about 20 years and are in their early 30s. they probably have no education and have never done anything outside of play games. they dont have any other interests. they dont have lives outside of it. they have no life experiences either. they dont travel. they dont eat out at nice places. they dont go anywhere. they go to the game store and go home. many live with their parents. we are seeing the way they are in these interviews and in these comments.
lets just be real. they are cynical introverted assholes who repeat the same shit over and over. they all said switch would flop. all they care about is a traditional controller and a 2 hour long movie game like doom eternal and last of us. those arent bad games but obviously if thats all they look forward to they arent looking at amico. so there isnt a point to do these interviews. its not fun seeing tommy look sad or get depressed because these people are taking out their unhappiness on him. its not worth it.

im gonna admit im having a hard time. the whole amico promise was no kickstarter, no crowdfunding. fig has given these people unlimited ammo and its troublesome. gonna keep doing my best but we've got our pal djconvoy fighting me now and its an uphill battle. shouldnt have done the crowdfunding tbh. preorders gave them a lot of ammo but now i cant fight them very well. at this point amico is a crowdfunded device to the haters. theres not gonna be much way i can get it into their head fig and kickstarter are different entities. im gonna keep fighting and i did preorder again but fig was prolly a bad move after saying no kickstarter. theyve got two blades that slice me open now 199.99 to 249.99 price hike and promise of no kickstarter but now its on fig. just keeping it real the heavy handed statements over and over this wasnt gonna be crowdfunded are hurting the people who try to defend.
btw djconvoy you are being watched on here bud. its pretty obvious you check this thread daily and constantly and have nothin bbetter to do with your time than shit on tommy and amico at every corner. for calling it tommys safe space you sure love hanging in here too. especially when its a device you are not interested in it at all.

the consoles too expensive. do i want a premium product? yes. do other people find value in premium products? market research suggests otherwise if atgames sells like it does.
the console needs kickass games and all of them need to be skiing quality or higher. all i see now that is good is skiing and night stalker. shark shark is rough. wip in progress or not. console launch in 5 months step to it. i gave you my money yes i did preorder. if it sucks i will be on this board to say good job trying not on this board shitting on it. this isnt a toilet.

yes... i tried to talk about this. the reason mobile games are successful is because they are part of a desired device. a phone. asking people to put down 250 dollars on a console for access to those mobile games, with nothing else no other features may prove tough. however if games are good enough someone may go out to buy dedicated hardware to play mobile games. its all about the software not hardware.
i told tommy that they needed to make an intellivision service and then perhaps later release controllers for it. asking people to put down money up front severely limits the market of people who may be ready to pay for games but not hardware. we will see how this pans out in the coming months.
i think tommy has enough good will and is trying his best with what he has and the team hes put together. i think it is a huge mistake he does not have earthworm jim or another big name for launch but i am not going to argue that. letting the man lead and do what he can with what hes given. not gonna judge.
i just preordered the vip for tommy but i doubt i will play a lot of it. ultimately i just want to support the underdog and tommy deserves support no matter what he puts out because he tries and he cares. care is rare today. ill pay for care.

let me preface this again by saying i am not a hater. i am not asking these questions to come off hatefully.
also tommy i want to thank you for all your kind responses and the civil manner you conduct in your rebuttals.
you have 2600 people reserved with a founder's edition which is good. you are about to open up preorders for a new VIP edition, it is effectively april which means your console comes out in 6 months. some of your answers now are saying you are worried about parts limitations due to corona and other issues. rumors are coming out that you may use the coronavirus as an excuse (even tho that is not an excuse it's the truth) but you need to stomp that now.
when will you start manufacturing. and when you start that process how much inventory will you have. if this is a pre-order when will the finished product arrive in your warehouses. not in people's homes, your warehouses. give us an answer. you know it or you do not. if you do not tell us why you do not know it as of april. you do not need to say 'i will have 50,000 units in may' but give a rough figure and rough month. expectations. we are your loyal customers and many of us are pre-ordering a VIP (myself included).
all the interviews are great and i am loving the content but all that really matters is the question in bold right now. or else it's all talk.

Please Don't Get Me Wrong, I will definitely buy the Amico because I like to collects objects I dislike and because this also gives me a free pass to write 40 line posts about how much they miss the mark. I just want the best for you, Tommy. XOXO.

Now seriously, Missile Command looks great, Tommy. Thank you for giving these games a new life, many of us never played them as kids and now with up to 8 players they look really fun. This video really shows that the Amico is real and is coming soon. And, regardless of sales figures, it will be awesome to play.

its like you guys are actually ignoring all possible warning signs. nintendo did this its called the wii. when you look back on the wii all you think of is wii sports. as a hardcore gamer you may look back on it as skyward sword and mario. wii sports came with the wii it was just an accessory to get you into the wii and to understanding the motion controls and then you move on. wii sports is one of the best selling games on a console because it came with the wii. no one wants a wii anymore. there are millions for sale in flea markets, second hand markets, ebay. you can barely give them away. people look back on it as something of a gimmick now. some nursing homes got in on the hype and some still use it yes but thats it. i like the idea and the console. but i am not seeing this market you talk about. the reason why they do not make these games their core focus is because it doesnt sell. old people are not looking for a family fun console.
tommys 5 pack in games are going to be the amicos wii sports. they are crucial but also can they even be the wii sports 2? and again wii exploded because families were playing wii bowling. no one is playing wii blowing anymore or even looking for another wii bowling. it came and went. i dont know if im going to get thru to anyone on this board.
i mean its obviously not the same. amico has some definitely cooler games. but yeah when these are the type of game that amico devs are making... it isn't tough for someone like nintendo to quickly make short work of neutralizing that competition. because they're literally nintendo. that name recognition and the respect that the switch has earned with big name titles like mario and zelda. they did it with wii sports again. amico wouldnt even be on the table. tommy mentions wii constantly in his marketing and interviews.
im going to lay some truths before i go because no one is actually interested in listening at this point and i cant fault tommy for defending his brand. tommy is a good guy and all he wants is what is best for his system and i will support him but these are the realities and all the talk about this controller.inty/tommy could have launched the software service, making sure all the games will work well with that controller, silently developing and testing them with the controller, and then eventually launch the controller after the service is successful. but without the software, the controller is nothing. the controller isn't going to make an unfun game fun, so the games need to prove themselves first before justifying a physical product launch which is much more expensive, and limits your market way too early on
but i get it that it doesn't make sense with the audience they are going for
tommy wants this to be something physical that a casual user can pick up at a store and just take home. but i just dont think that can work with anything that isn't cheap like a retro clone console because nintendo already does that shit anyway
they could still do it if they drop the expensive hardware and go with cheap hardware that is easy to pick up on a budget or software that works on a different console, smart TV "channels", Rokus or just ios/android like ive mentioned already. i was 100% on board when the console was around $200 or under $200. i am still on board but i am not lying, $250 is quite the price hike.
which the possibility to launch a controller and console later after they have a following and some really good games under their belt... under their belt... (wtf does that phrase actually imply... food apparently saying for fat people or something.) its a bummer though because the controllers are pretty cool.
but yeah im going to clock out. you guys are hardcore fans and will remain hardcore until it launches and i applaud that. when the amico launches i am still buying a console to support tommy because hes an industry vet who deserves support (been to several video games lives) but i am also not going to beat around the bush anymore.

came here to post the top video. this is exactly what i was talking about in my comparisons to wii in the previous post i made and when talking about how important aesthetic and graphics are for presentation of these games. i really like tommy, still buying amico, so i am not going to make gif comparisons of the games in that 51 games trailer to amico games in that amico trailer but this doesnt feel good knowing this is most likely a pack of 51 games for 20-30 dollars that will come out for an already massively successful system. and for those types of games switch does have 2 controllers the joycon are all you need.

these are some of the things i am looking at. i will let you all be the judge.
1. i am not a hater. i dont think anyone has turned on me. i dont give a shit about what anyone on st. patty's and ians youtube says. intellimission i know it looks like that. thats just how i evaluate things i like. i am blunt. i love switch too and could talk badly about it if i wanted but i truly want tommy to improve if he can if its an option. when everyone seems to loves everything improvement isnt always possible. not knocking anyone here again. also dont care if you hate me for saying that i still like everyone here
2. i want to say up front i am aware the image i m about to post is slightly unfair. one game is a over shoulder (1001lives was correct i should have used better terms for a wii sports like game) and one is a 3rd person camera vs top down. but i want to say that games like pool and tennis and football, and especially, cornhole and really all sports games need an amico avatar or charater doing the action, throwing the bean bag and such that you can position and adjust and change like wii sports had.
but when i see these comparisons this is why i am honestly disappointed in the amico.
the top left is from a wii hardware in 2006, and gamecube hardware was in the wii, which as we know is from 2001. take that as you will.

so what i am saying if am saying anything at all is cornhole is close to what the sports games need to reflect on amico, and horizon chase is close to the style and level of detail and animation that amico racing games and other arcade style games have to have. again this is my opinion you will have to take it or leave it, trust me or not. but i know too much about this stuff i could literally write you a 20 page essay if i had time and just dont especially with the virus.

good luck again and keep kicking ass. again i am still buying the amico and i dont want to sound like a graphics whore. its hard to explain but all i will say is cornhole is getting close to surpassing the wii on a presentation level. a presentation level is what i would say someone looks at the game and says "that is a 2020 arcade sports game."
also why do i want amico? i am a hardcore gamer but also a very casual gamer and most nights i need some games i can pick up and play for 5-10 minutes without worrying about saving and open world shit and getting thru tons of quests and whatnot.

if the TV comes with a controller then you have a system that is doing exactly what the amico does on a TV. many of the games are more polished and more visually impressive than Amico which is not a TV even. no console required. the only thing you are saying that makes amico different is that it comes with controllers out of the box at this point. that is not a good pitch. you must have more to say on this that will convince people. as of right now you are just relying on uneducated people? you can also buy a simple android TV remote for the games no tan xbox controller.

i dont think this is true. if you take off your salesman hat (which is hard to do as president I know i mean no offense) i think that people will see these games as very old looking outside a core audience of amico fans. they do not look as good as even the fish in the dave n busters games. again it is another reliance on very uneducated people it seems. thats not a good look for amico. and my point was not about that people do not care about graphics, i think you may have misconstrued. some people do not care about graphics, that is true, but some people do.
my point was that even these low effort cheap android tv games look better visually and effects wise. that is not really excusable for a dedicated console with exclusive games.
i will admit skiing looks good but HORIZON CHASE looks 10x better than anything shown in that trailer and is an arcade racer perfect for amico. amico should be able to match HORIZON CHASE at launch. if not already. it has not shown that level or anywhere near.
i think a grandparent will take cartoony or realistic bowling. it doesnt matter to the grandparent if they see what is happening. they just care about how easy it is to understand. i googled and there is no market research on cartoony vs realisic bowling so this is just your opinion versus mine. general game feel / easy to control. but if you have a game with jpgs of balls vs a game with realistic 3d balls one makes your system look good and one doesn't. saying some people don't care if you use jpgs of footballs that are static images vs highly detailed footballs that bounce is not a good answer.
i hope this was clear i tried to be fair and accurate in my assessment. your answer is not necessarily everyones, as president you can say "no one cares if its bad graphics" but consumers do care and cared with wii.

the wii you talk about has the game wii sports and the graphics and gameplay looks better than anything on amico... from 2006. cornhole is coming close but still missing the mark.

tommy the biggest hit on wii was wii bowling which was a take turns game while people watched and had fun. it wasnt the co-op that drew people in. the second hit was Mario Kart Wii. again epic fail on my part i meant to use that link to ask about quality mainly.

I'm clearly biased... so interested in hearing from others in here what their thoughts are.
sorry that is a good salespitch but it is not what many are finding. most are finding non-gamers loving apple arcade. this is a good article you may not have seen puzzle games, word games, etc. that non gamers are loving.
it pains me to say bu these are better than what amico has shown us too.
finally after feeling like a blunt asshole,
in the end I am buying an amico day 1 and will support you because you are awesome and i hope you will take these tough questions to the team. i know tyou do not have giant budgets and are wanting to make something good but outside of the people ITT you are not impressing many people.
i am not impressed but i am buying this to support you and your team. i really hope you will impress me or at least show you are delivering wii quality/level games.

Very disappointed in the latest trailer and I am going to be honest. rather than write something on reddit I will keep it here for tommy's sake because i am on his side, as i will reiterate, but i am not sure about this plan. i apologize in advance for the crudity of this argument or how much of a hater i seem like but i am always honest and hopefully tommy has a good argument for his own system and its price $.

This is a list of 15 games for android tv. Every single game is currently more polished and feature complete than anything shown on the amico. Many and most games available on Android tv right now are totally free and come with your tv, it doesn't bode well for Amico, period.
Take a moment to think about these android games, many of which Tommy is probably open to porting to amico now that we have sen the latest trailer.
Now we know the Amico is doing something a cheap $30 dollar android box can do and playing on a TV isn't an argument. You just buy a nice controller like an xbox controller and you have access to all those games and way more.
Why is the amico going to cost $250.00 dollars?
Why is this not a cheap android unit with the ability to add two controllers on for like 40-50 dollars?
If you are giving me the argument moms and old people will not use android tv, they will also not use a priority/proprietary system that costs $250 or $270 for pink or purple. If they will tell me why they wont use android TV but will use amico.

Not sure what you mean by "the overall list of roms." I posted a big mess of stuff as a starting point, and updated it once. I am at the point where it's good enough for me, so I'm unlikely to do that again.
That shouldn't stop anyone else, though.
If you want to add to it or make your own remix and post it here in the thread, PLEASE feel free to do so. The files are very small and the site owners don't seem to mind. I think it would be especially helpful to have (tested & formatted) sets of homebrew ROMs which haven't been talked about.

Just wondering, is the overall list of roms going to be updated or changed? I'm working off a download from December 1st I think.

Grr, can't get the SD card to work... 4GB card, just keeps going back to the main menu with SD CARD BROWSER selected... Tried all the tricks (formatting with the SD Card tool, just a 'Game' folder, and currently one ROM (Digdug.bin from the compatibility thread)... Won't work. (Tried the full folder and 'Doc Clu's Favs' as well).
The only odd thing is that it's a Micro SDHC card in an SD Card adapter... That _shouldn't_ matter, I wouldn't think, but has anyone gotten a Micro in an adapter to work?
My converter wouldn't work, I had to go buy a normal sized 8 gig sd card.

Beside the screen protector, is there protective plastic covering on the grey area by the push buttons?
Good catch, it seems like their might be, but I am unable to get anything to scratch off in that area.

I tried to pick a little at mine, but I can't find evidence of a screen protector. The screen quality isn't bothering me, so I guess I'll leave it be and the thing will eventually peel back on its own (if I have one).
You can definitely get it. Just keep digging at the corners. It does come up.

Hi Guys.
I finally found one last unit tonight in a Bed Bath And Beyond. Over the past week or so, Ive been in a bunch of stores. They're always sold out. So I got the only unit I could find.
The display and sound on mine seem weird. The display has an annoying polarized effect when looking dead on. If I hold it slightly to the left or right the screen looks good. But looking straight on, it hurts my eyes. The sound is good and loud but makes a humming noise an other noises, like ther's a short or something. Sometimes it clicks and clacks like there's a hard drive in there.
Are they all like this, or did I get a beat one?
Other than that, it seems great. The controls and buttons are precise. It has a quality feel to it. I read some complaints about the sound being cheap or tinny. Aside from the hum and clicks. To me, it sounds as good as my NDS.
The sound certainly isn't as good as your NDS, and the screen is in fact very low quality and cheap. It's kind of hard to properly game on it for long if you look at it dead on, unfortunately. I don't think they considered this. It's what you get with a 40 dollar product, I assume.
The humming doesn't sound right, though.

There's a single ROM in the folder called Game with proper punctuation.
Not working :/

you know i really hate being the negative one and i like tommy a lot. again I want this to succeed. and anyone else who is negative has been removed so please dont remove me. im not gonna spam stupid ass pictures.
but again, i will remind everyone. weve been given totally different renders here with no heads up. thats a big change. another big change change we were not told about. pre-order at 299.99 without prior explanation for the change or the extras. this wasn't even announced to us first. it just happened. i realize he can't tell us everything but the Atari VCS also has plenty of preorders up on gamestops website. its a milestone but its a milestone those people already hit too.
im gonna stay in camp negative as i usually do until tommy takes the time to explain to his diehards whats up. i know hes said hes busy but this is a big drop with big changes in price and render. and by the way i dont care because i already pre-ordered woodgrain VIP. but yeah. answers please.
