1. Well considering SDTV is in the process of being phased out everywhere, yes, HD is quite important to the future. Play a few games in true HD and tell me there isn't a noticable difference.
2. That may be a package deal w/2 games or something. But they've been $149 or quite some time now. I want to say its been over a year since they dropped to that. 981007 At least 6 months now because we moved in July and they were $150 when we moved. Either way, $100 for the complete setup is a great deal.
3. Cool! I myself am starting to bulk up on xbox. any word on when microsoft will stop making games exclusively for their first system ? 980576 No word yet that I have seen. Ive got about 70 xbox titles, and about 30-50 that I would love to buy. They will only get cheaper, and some of the best titles have just recently been released. Past 6 months. Ive got at least 20 to buy and play before I purchase an 360. Check blockbuster, they have a bin that has a bunch of titles for $10 or less. Media Play also had a bunch for $10 a few weeks ago.
4. I like the Mario Kart games and I plan to get Mario Golf for my GBA sometime soon. Mario Strikers looks interesting and would be great if I had children.
5. The chip is still he way to go, you get the best of both worlds. Stock XBOX when you need it, and completely open when you don't. Plus a variety of options based on whatever chip you choose. As for the legality, Its skecthy because of the ROMs used in the emulators. The base software is legal for the most part, the ROMs are where you run into issues.
6. I don't hate either of them simply because they are on the cube. Both are great games. Not to mention most first party titles Nintendo releases. Im simply stating that its sad to see them rely on old characters and IPs to sell consoles. Sure they had some great new ideas, but again, nothing that causes the masses to line up at midnight. Sure that doesn't make those mass games great, but the $$$ and the consoles in homes creates interest by developers. Without developers you don't get games. How long can Nintendo really survive when the majority of their major sellers are first party??? That is the big question. As for the slow switch to CD, well that clearly lost them a lot of third party support which still hurts them. How many multi platform titles were designed for the cube first??? Sure a few, but many were ported simply to sell more titles. A LA viewtiful joe. Sure they have outlasted most of their competetors, but all they have really done in the console market is backed themselves into a niche market. Young gamers and those that love Nintendo First Party titles. Is that enough to keep them viable??? As mentioned, the hand held market is a different discussion all together. One other thing, the Japaneese market means a lot less to console success now compared to 5 or 10 years ago. XBOX clearly showed that a console can be successful world wide without support in the Japan. They will show that again this generation also.
7. We aren't talking handhelds here so they don't factor in to a console discussion. SO remove about half of the titles you listed. Do you honestly think Nintendo would sell anywhere near the first party console titles if Mario wasn't pimped out??? The other consoles survive on a VARIETY of titles, not solely first party sequels and characters. The cube versions of ported titles were missing online, which was pretty big last generation in case you didn't realize it. Not to mention no DL content either. If Nintedo is as revolutionairy and gamer friendly, why in the world wouldn't they provide HDTV support. After all even in low polygon games and non realistic titles most still want the best experience available. HDTV would only help that. With online Nintendo is now a generation behind and has ZERO presence online in the console world. They had plenty of opportunity with the cube and would have had at least one killer online title in Mario Kart, but passed up on it. Again how is that keeping the gamer in mind? You would think that a company trying to be innovative and creative would try and use the lastest technology rather than wait a generation. Why sit back and wait when you can be pushing thing forward. BTW, why is it that "True Gamers" must love all consoles????
8. The code is the tag here. Because people could possibly have the same ID on their DS as someone else (as opposed to it being unique for Xbox Live), then the 12 digit code uniquely identifies a user. It is based on the product code of the copy of Mario Kart they have, and the DS it is used it. The game is then tied to the DS in question. Putting the game in a different DS does not work, you'd need to wipe the info and get another 12 digit code. Within MKDS, you can add other people's codes to your book. When online, you can go look for anyone who happens to be in that book and play against them if they are free. 981091 Is there no way to find random people to race then???
9. Actually you can still go online with a modded xbox. You simply turn the mod chip off and reboot with the factory settings... 981082 But still, if the xbox is going into a cabinet, why would you want xbox live anyways? 981084 You wouldn't in that case... I was simply stating that by modding your box, you don't necassarly kill your LIVE functionality.
10. Don't have a DS, but hear alot about Mario Kart. Is it 3d a la the 64 version? As, whats with the silly codes? Is it not like LIVE with gamertags?? Any opinions on the game??
11. Actually you can still go online with a modded xbox. You simply turn the mod chip off and reboot with the factory settings...
12. I have no problem with them using Mario to sell content, but he isn't the system seller that he once was. And for many of us, simply not a reason to buy a game or a console. Sure it works and stick with it, but don't expect for it to keep Nintendo consoles afloat. I don't see lines of 200 for the release of any Mario title and anything else on the Cube other than maybe the new zelda title. Sure the masses may be wrong a lot, but $$$ is what keeps a console going.
13. Ill say it again, why is it so terrible or anti-gaming to have a console that does more than play games? The PC has been that way for years and the games haven't suffered any. Im not more intreseted in the extras, but if they are going to build them in, then it only makes the console that much more desireable. As for giving Nintendo a chance, well this generation was a great example of what they will do for gamers. No console online, Little 3rd party support, and the other console get better versions of ported titles, pimping of Mario all over the place, etc... My main point is that its truly sad that Nintendo has to rely on Mario to sell a title in any reasonable numbers. Not a bad tactic, just sad.
14. Nintendo also seems to be focused on gamers and gamers only, something both Microsoft and Sony are definately not focused on. So who are they focused on then?? I for one am a farily hardcore gamer and I feel that MS and Sony are just about on the money for exactly what I wan't out of a console. The only ability that is really lacking from the both is a serious hard drive and the ability to record/replay television. I love the ability to stream media on my TV. I love the ability to purchase media conent from my console rather than my PC. Shoot if I could email and surf the web Id almost never have to turn the PC on. Though the other thing I think is missing is the ability to buy music/cd straight from the console that would have been nice. Not to mention I can voice chat with friends and family on LIVE which is nice. Come to think of it, the Rev/Nintendo really doesn't have me in mind at all. After all, I still have my old consoles and PC to play all the classics I want... From the sounds of the 360 forums lots of gamers are actually looking into MC PCs and using the 360 for more than simply gaming. Yet again, MS pushes the industry. After all, is the ability to play classics really an innovation? Rant off...
15. Well considering the top of the line PCs are already comparable to the newest console then things look good for the PC gaming again. Im thinking about switching back now that Hard Drives aren't standard in consoles.
16. Me... No really I have some great ideas that haven't been done. After that, some of the comic artists Ive always loved the clancy games, especially the older ones Oh and remember the success of the matrix game and its ties to a movie.....
17. Mario is the most pimped out character in gaming... Zelda is close behind... As are the pokemon... And the Yu Gi Ohs..... They sell games, but some of us are tired of seeing Mario pimped out. Mario soccer??? Quit using Mario to sell your games and do what you claim to be the console of.... "innovate" ... using Mario in everything goes completely agaisn't innovation. Just makes things stale. Some of us have been playing mario for decades and the cuteness wore off long ago. Though I have to say, a well done FPS with Mario would be a killer title. Not a violent title, but something humorous. It would do what Conker almost did.
18. As long as EA doesn't buy them I could care less who gets them...
19. That sounds real cheap. The last time I checked, a while back, they were over $80 a piece. Well for the good ones at least. Depends on the quailty you want. Id pay more for one that supports High Def of the xbox. BTW, there is a factory VGA Box for the 360.
20. They have too much pride to go third party. If anything they would just leave the console market and go handheld only. But I also think they have too much pride and too much support in the east to simply drop consoles also. I could honestly see them dropping consoles in the west maybe.
21. Well, Im a grad student in Computer Science. Emphasis is computer graphics and software engineering... As for Nintendo, I agree, some of the gimmicks have been great and plenty of fun. However, I don't see a lot of their ideas changing the mass gaming market. Sure DS has some great stuff, but I don't see it having a large mass apeal. I think the same thing will happen with the TV remote. It will have some great first party titles, but I don't think it will impact the way many of us game. Especially the masses. It may create a niche market, but it 1) won't save nintendo 2) create a large new market It has been common with their ideas, successful, but not revolutionairy. I see revolutionairy as something that all the game makers have to adopt to surrvie. IE Online Gaming, Analog sticks, Hard Disks, FPS, etc... Im hoping for something that will truly shake up the industry, but I don't see the tv remote doing it. You end up using macro muscle interaction instead of micro with thumbs. Im hoping they do well because competition is good, but they really need to hit the masses pocketbooks this next console generation. Something to the tune of GTA or Halo impact. Neither of which was "revolutionairy" but were clearly "Must have titles" clear console sellers to the masses. You have to have consoles out there to get developer support after all.
22. I blame EA for the lack of inovation, and will continue to until they stop shipping updates each year and trying to pass them off as sequels. Then slapping a full price on an update. Oh and then raising prices. Oh and buying up IP and loosing the talent behind the title. Oh and buying exclusive rights. Oh and a few more things like sad attempts at AAA titles. Ruining the Bond Liscence. And finally just a serious lack of standards of quality. Gamers are always going to buy what they want to play and what they enjoy. If its crappy update/sequels then thats what will drive the market. If its original titles then so be it. People will buy the original titles, but if they aren't appealing to the masses, then they will never sell large numbers. Sad but true.
23. MOD Chip + Mame = Good to go. Legal = Sketchy
24. Or you could just force them to use a normal cube controller. I have a feeling there will be a lot of this going on. At least gamers choosing to use a traditional controller instead of the TV remote.... Sorry, but Im still a skeptic who sees it simply as yet another gimmic by Nintendo to sell consoles but not really pushing gaming in any real direction. You can make it as weird as you want, and it still won't be an innovation.
25. Only marginally more power than the current XBOX. Itll be over powered before it even launches. Oh well, Ill be gaming primarily on a 360 or PC anyway. Im tired of Mario and Zelda the Pimped out characters.
