Ive been looking through Wal-mart and other locations for something to store my loose carts in. I can never seem to find anything that is the correct size. There always seems to be room left over and the games slide around. Anyone make their own storage sytem? Any other suggestions? I dont' think my wife enjoys the extra 100+ games sitting by the TV.

I got all this for just over $30. Nothing all that rare, but about 25 or so that I didn't already have. Not to mention a few favorites. I also picked up a blue label river raid and a blue label space shuttle at the local flea market! I had to miss PC5 though. ASTEROIDS DIG DUG CRYSTAL CASTLES DARK CHAMBERS JR. Actually Ive returned numerous items and normally the company pays for the return shipping. Amazon being one, Ebags being another. Ebags even rushed the correct item overnight at no extra charge. Dell also pays for the shipping on warranty work. Last week I got a bad game due to a sellers poor packing job, and he offered to refund the $$ and pay for return shipping. Since it was only a $3 transaction, I just said don't worry about it and took the loss.

All right, Im starting to get frustrated now. I got another dead cart this weekend. Ive seen a few suggestions now alchohol, eraser, etc... Ive tried the qtip and I tried an eraser. I get some sound and some garbbled colors but nothing. Any suggestions? Any online tutorials? Any other methods? That makes 3 in as many weeks. Thanks.

We had a menacer. I still have the 6 in 1 pack in that came with it. The gun died after a few months though. Never to work again.
-
this is what I got in the mail this week. They even used packing peanuts. When I unpacked the box, the console rattled.
-
Im going with a negative on this. I just got a jr. this week that was crushed. Yes, the system, not a box. The plastic casing was destroyed. Luckily the board still works. Last week I got a game in a plain brown envelope with no padding. Suprise, one of them no longer worked!!

What are you playing? (week of March 21 - March 27)
jeepnut24 replied to Adrian M's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've mostly been watching it kick Starscream's ass as well. Highly entertaining! (He actually swore at the game! He never does that!) When I get a chance to play a game, I've been playing Dead Man's Hand. Definitely not a spectacular game, but fun none the less and the music is pretty good. Also played a little bit of TG Bomberman, the best version, evar. Dead Mans Hand had so much potentional but the dev-team seems to have folded a bit too soon. bad joke i know Yea it's just an average FPS, but I did learn something new while playing one of the hands of poker.... a certain poker hand is called the Dead Man's Hand.... I got it once but I can't remember all the cards, Ace of spades I think, the 2 black jacks, and 2 black 8's I think.... Yeah, I was looking forward to Dead mans hand for so long. Oh well, Red Dead Revolver is just around the corner so there is still hope for a non-scifi FPS. Shame its an EA game though -
It sounds like you simply need to replace the dome switches in your controler. You can pick up enough to fix 20 joysticks for $6 on ebay. That would be your easiest fix and when a direction wears out in the future, just replace it again. There is an excellent tutorial a few threads down in this forum. Another easy one is to pick up a sega controller and use the B button to fire. It isn't a joystick though, but you can pick up one of the arcade controllers for it though. Either solution would be much easier than trying to hook a PC joystick to the 2600.

Thanks, Ill have to keep my eye out for one. One would be a nice addition to my growing collection. Thanks for the info.

Im glad someone picked that up. I have no intrest in a jag right now, but I knew that was a great deal.

Yeah, those are all pretty early games, and Soul Calibur is basically a port, hardly optimized for the XBOX. If you compare the games that push the XBOX, you seem a larger differance. Seriously compare Crimson skies to anything on the DC. Look at Doom 3 and Halo 2 the DC couldn't even run either. The texture resolution alone is to much for the DC to handle let alone the other portions. As for the differance between real surround sound, Dolby Digtial, and Pro logic, well you need to use both and then you will see. Needless to say, I have both and there is a huge differance. Pro Logic is not even remotely close to DD. Again, you need to compare a game that truly uses Dolby Digital. Yes, the concept is similar, but the execution and results aren't even close. Especially a top end system. Now only if I could run my Atari through DD 5.1 Blips and Bloops all around me....
-
Now I see where you are coming from. Could the DC play Crimson skies, well maybe, but its not going to be the same game at all. None of the dynamic lighting or partical effects. No surround sound. No voice chat over the internet. Smaller levels etc... Same with most of the major xbox titles. I agree that some of the lesser titles would be very similar. Im just saying there is definately a generation gap between the two titles. Actually I wouldn't even say the GC is the same generation because it basically passed on the online portion. I don't think we will see such huge gaps in performance like we used too. Though there is now way that a game like Deus EX IW or Doom 3 would be remotely close to being the same game on a DC as they are and will be on the XBOX. Not even close. I also think that Doom 3, Halo 2, and a few other 3 and forth generation xbox games will be "WOW!!!" games. Most people don't realize that very few developers really push the XBOX hardware. We are just now seeing more and more games that do this. For two years there were less than 10, and in the last 6 months we have seen at least that many more. I agree that it isnt the same as the change between the 2D and 3D generation, but its still a big gap. Though Duke Nukem 2D and then Wolfenstien 3D was an awesome experience.

You state grand scheme of the overall libraries how many have you actually played though? I personally own 50 and have played most of the others at some point. I also have a DC and I can say with confidence that there is a distinct differance. Consider a second generation XBOX game, Splinter Cell and one of the final DC generation games and you will see what I mean. We are talking major differances in what the GPU can do. The differance between the next generation of XBOX titles will be even more noticable. I agree, its isn't a drastically noticable differance, but we are past the days where one generation to the next is a large leap. 2600 to NES to SNES for instance. But to those who know more about graphics and pay attention to things like specular lighting, dynamic lighting and bump mapping, it is a stark differance. I agree that the DC could hold its own, but I don't think it could run the majority of XBOX games. I would love to see it run crimson skies, HALO, either of the Project gotham games, Ralisport challange, even games like burnout 2 at 60 frames/sec. Shoot even first generation games like oddworld wouldn't hold up. But I digress, I pay more attention to these things than the average gamer. Oh yeah, I won't get into the fact that the XBOX supports Dolby Digital and HDTV without any special adaptors. I may come across as a "fanboy" but I simply prefer power, and the xbox is the winner in this generation. I also thought the DC was in the last. The DC's problems weren't hardware though.

My last 2600 jr. has a smashed case by the time it got here. The case was completly trashed. The board still worked fine though. Then there was the guy who shipped the games in a plain brown paper envelope. No wonder they didn't work when they got here. Shoot, ill pay the extra $$ for the bubble wrap.

What does a supercharger usually run for??

Just for the record, Im not a typical HALO fan as most XBOX fans are. If you want to see what the XBOX is really capable of, look at RSC2 and Project Gotham 2. PRG2 is at least a full generation ahead of the DC. The online functions alone are a generation ahead. DL ghosts, Leader boards, DL Cars and tracks, voice. Then you have to look at the graphics. Id like to see a DC try and render real time lighting like Splinter cell and Deus Ex IW have. I like the DC as much as anyone, but it really can't hold up to the three latest consoles. Shoot the GC really can't either without the online, but that is another topic. HALO is far from the best example of an XBOX game. It is simply the flagship title for the console. Though I think HALO 2 will prove that the DC can't compare. HALO 2 has a smaller amount of polygons, but better graphics.

Ebay still has some nice, cheap deals on 2600 games
jeepnut24 replied to Brad2600's topic in Auction Central
Yeah, I agree that there are some deals to be had. I just wish more people had BIN's on their auctions. -
We need a tutorial on cleaning and restoring the actual atari board. My latest 2600 jr was extremely dirty. Maybe one on cleaning the actual cartridge slot on the 2600 would be nice too.

Here is a list of the platformers: 1. JSRF: Jet Set Radio Future 2. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee 3. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc 4. Voodoo Vince 5. Pitfall: The Lost Expedition 6. Sonic Heroes 7. Blinx: The Time Sweeper 8. Vexx 9. The Haunted Mansion 10. Dr. Muto 11. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom 12. Whiplash 13. Pac-Man World 2 14. Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex 15. My wife loves "racing" in PGR2. Actually its the only game she volunteers to play without suggestion. There are a few more games that are newb friendly but they slip my mind at the moment. Oh yeah, Trivial Pursuit just arived and its LIVE enabled.

Actually you only need one ISP. You do pay a subscription fee. Its a whole $50 for an entire year. That isn't all that much really. The same connection you use on your PC will work with the xbox as long as its BB. GC has no online. As far as stopping service, that really isn't an issue because I can host a game using my XBOX. There is no central server for the games. Only for content. There are a few "official" servers for some of the bigger games like RS3. I can still play any of the old games I wish to as long as there is someone else who is connected. So in fact it is possible to play the older games. In fact, Mechasault is one of the first, and there is still a huge following. LIVE is a central service, not based on a specific game. I might mention that I actually prefer the PC. As for the GC and online games, well they really don't exsist. I personally think that Nintendo relies to much on old franchises to sell games?
-
Uh because the X gets HALO 2 this within 6 months and then the PC will have to wait a year at least before then. As for DL content well, yeah, HALO only gets that on the PC, but try comparing LIVE gaming and PC online and you will see that LIVE has it beat. A whole lot less cheaters. Steady voice communication. Everyone is BB connected.

Well the main problem with XBOX is the DVD drive. They are made with three differant types, and the thompson made drive seems to be the most error prone. Not that big of a deal though because many have been using thompson drives for 3 years now with no problems. As for not being able to complete LIVE compatable games without LIVE. That simply isn't true. All LIVE games to this point can be played and finished without being online. Some are limited in their depth though. Counterstrike being the biggest example. The rest have single player campaigns that range from mediocre at best(Mechasault) to Unbelieveable (Rainbow Six 3 w/voice controls). The only thing you will really miss without live is downloadable content. Most of this is multiplayer maps and online components. Splinter Cell however has three full single player levels. All of the DL content that can be used without LIVE is made available through various sources like the official xbox magazine so DL content without live really isn't a problem either. In the end though, it will come down to what games you really want to play.

That is the beauty of it all. Its an area that MS simply hasn't taken over the market in. They have given us a better product than the competitors, and they have had to prove their validity.

Very Well done. Do you plan to do one for the various paddles? They would be a very handy pair of tutorials.
