You all have my sympothy. A dead pixel on a 15" laptop monitor is one thing, and is easily avoidable because the screen is often white while working anyway.
A dead pixel on a large screen TV with a HUGE price tag, or a small screen where each pixel is vital for displaying deatail is a seperate issue.

ONLY wireless controllers! I'm sorry, that is going to make me not buy the new xbox. I HATE wireless with a passion, more than analog joystick 1st person shooters. The controllers become to heavy, there is a slight delay going from the motion to the tv (most gamers won't see it but picky 1st person shooter people like me see it, and annoys the HELL out of me, I got the MX-1000 Mouse by Logitech (the real laser one), and took it back immediately, because it still had the delay). Sorry, I don't give a crap if the xbox blows out everyone else graphically in the competition, the "wireless controllers only" will make me NOT buy this system. From the looks of things, you may not be getting a next gen console because it looks like they are all going to have wireless controllers. Im glad though as long as the work well. Im tired of wires. That and as long as they work with LIVE.

Those pics look real but they could still be renders. I've worked with guys that could do still image renders that could pass for real. Especially because they are close up with nothing else to compare their size/appearance to. In the end, I'd suspect renders that good were probably based on the real deal so it becomes kind of a moot point anyway.
Unless they are pictures / renders of a nearly final concept and the final is a bit different. I would imagine they are going to lead us in one direction, and then suprise us on the 12th.

If it is real(and I'm of the opinion it's a render but maybe a render based on the real design), I think it looks OK. It's not awe inspriing or horribly ugly. It looks like the Dell PCs some of my co-workers have but painted silver.I think I'm in the minoritry of not caring 1 bit what my consoles look like if they have good games. The SNES is one of the ugliest consumer products ever but has a great library. I'll take great library over good looks any day.
Take a look that the latest two pictures. The memory card and the HD and you'll see they aren't renders.
Id like it to look nice along side my array of electronics, but I could care less as long as it does what I want it to, and does it well. Play Games!!!

But I wouldn't pass up Super Mario 64 DS just because it's primarily a port. *Many* of the mini-games make great use of the stylus and dual screens to give you that "unique DS experience" you are looking for. Plus there is enough new aspects to the main game to make it worth getting.Play Mario 64 DS before you buy it. Its control has a different feel than the N64 version...

There is something wrong with these pics though...Ignore that fanboy twaddle from the site and actually look at the top picture. That DVD draw suggests that this console is of very similar size to the current Xbox... the exact opposite to what MS have been saying.
I am thinking this may be a prototype and is just being used to light up the internet to get people talking. If this is true then this means MTV get their scoop and MS get their ultimate advert... I mean programme of popular interest to the yoof of t'day.
I guess you missed the latest picture of the new memory cards then. Not to mention the picture is everywhere not just Teamxbox. I also think you have your widths and heights a bit off. Following the width of a DVD and the height of a normal drive, the picture of the new console shows a much smaller console than the current XBOX..

We made a conscious decision long ago not to watermark images. While there are some people who will use images for unsavory purposes (such as to describe their eBay auctions without even stating that the depicted items are not what you are bidding on), I prefer to offer unaltered images to the community.
..Al
At the very least, Id say a digital waterwark would be good for legal purposes. Shame people can't get their own pictures.

Thanks for the recommendation -- I didn't know this game was out there. Quality quirk for $20 rules! Gamestop calls it "this year's Katamari Damacy."
No problem, I try and get the word out on quality titles. Phantom Dust is the best value for $20 out there. 300 Skills to collect, 100 Missions, 40 Live skills to collect, DL content, online skill trading, etc... Not to mention its about as far from a western game as you can get.

If this is the design, I'm wondering where all the controller ports are, or if the controllers are daisy chained or the ports are on the side opposite where the hard drive plugs in. Or the controllers are all wireless. Did I read something about the controllers being wireless somewhere?

..Al
Its all but confirmed that the controllers will be wireless.

There is another picture up showing the removable hard drive... Use the link again and see. Clearly not a render either....
Clearly the real thing...

Heres the linkRemember, wireless controllers so no controller ports.

Looks fairly nice Id say. Other than the huge power button.
Doesn't fit in at all with the image posted at ourcolony.net (which is pseudo-confirmed real, and we do know that that site is MS-affiliated). And that image was an actual photograph.
I'd say this rendering is just another bad artist's conception. TXB is pretty well-known for just posting up pretty much everything they lay their hands on and calling it news, calling it confirmed, etc... some of the time they're right but that's bound to happen sometimes when you just put everything on your site. I can pretty much guarantee this is not one of those times, though.
The link I just posted is XBOX-Scene and they got it elsewhere. Not to mention if you read up on it, they figured out the pictures form the colony.

Oh, one other thing, if you compare it to the picture that was revealed today from the colony, its the same color, and the picture shows the console standing on end. THe earlier pictures simply show a controller, not the console.
-
If this is fully rendered that they are real good. Either way, its the real thing.

Its a card game on steroids. No cards, but it plays like one only you control your characters actions. Hard to explain, but I hate card games, and still love this. Odd story line though. Rent it if you can find it.

No im fully aware of that i just wish x box had some more quirky games. I know its not a huge market but an odd ball game every now and then would make a niche group of people very happy. I just thing it would be awsome to see such odd games as katamri damcy (i cant spell that name for the life of me) or harvest moon. I cant tell you how disapointed i was the panzer and shenmue really went no where. I do get to look forward to metal slug 4and 5 which im sure will rock i just want to see more games like that. And now after all i have read putting soul up there was THE shittyest idea i have come up with ever for a title.Like I said, go purchase / rent Phantom Dust, one of the few quriky games that is truly a classic. $20 gets 20+ hours of SP, and a FULL LIVE support to boot. Not to mention developed in house. Quite an acomplishment for MS...

When I think of the other systems, I feel something. But the Xbox just seems... empty to me. it's like it's not there.I don't feel that it was created with the love and honesty systems like the Neo Geo or Dreamcast were. They were created for people to enjoy, to allow them to play and interact. The Xbox feels as if it was created to produce money, without the fact being hidden. Perhaps it's also its utilitarian PC roots - usefulness over any sense of flare.
Thats real funny considering Ive enjoyed my XBOX more than any other console to date. Twenty plus years worth. Mainly because of the innovation that it has brought to the industry. It doesn't need any flare, it simply has to play games. Part of american culture, get the job done, and do it better, offer more. I also think you all don't truly understand the driving forces behind the console. Not simply a way to make money. I would imagine the concept of XNA would also be lost on many of you. I doubt you would understand the benefit of tools to speed the dev process.
MS is really doing a lot for the industry and pushing more than Nintendo and Sony combine at this point. After all, what did sony and nintendo bring to the console table that wasn't there before???? Name one thing??? An add on modem??? An add on HD??? Bongos...
You can claim it has no soul, but it has done more to help the industry move forward in the last 4 years than anyone else. All Sony and Nintendo offered were extensions to previous titles, not new ways to play and enjoy games. Ignore it all you want, but future gaming will reflect many of the changes MS has made with the XBOX....
-
Actually I do get it.
My XBOX has plenty of presence. Not to mention functions the others dont have. Online, Im part of a community. Offline I can play custom sound tracks in game, something Ive wanted in games for a long time. Especially the games with crappy sound tracks or indie song lists.
Oh the fact that its a huge black box is nice too. May you are the one that doesn't get it....

-
Yes. I agree. It is souless, And you put it into words I'd been searching for forever. It just has no personality. It has no big niche. Halo is not a niche. It has no mascot. (PS2 barely does either, but at least it has the Japanese market niche. With the PSX2P, I feel a soul. It has a presence.) It just doesn't seem like it should be here.
Nintendo has a soul. They'd been here forever, and they have many well established characters. Sony has more characters as well. Master Chief isn't a mascot, IMHO. Fable guy isn't a mascot.
I dunno. I used to love my Xbox. But recently realized it just didn't have that feeling I get from the others.
I feel sorry for you, and Master Chief is a great mascott. Not to mention you have to start somewhere after all, and who says a console needs a Mascott to have soul? As mentioned, its clearly a western console and has a very western feel to it. Sure you and many others may not like it, but there are a lot of us that love it, and understand it. Not to mention for us, its the console that fits our gaming the best. I have about zero desire to play eastern games as most have more cutscene footage than gaming action and are simply to odd to be enjoyable.
BTW, does pimping Mario out into every genre an example of Nintendos soul? To me it shows their true colors.
Nintendo has history and means a lot to the industry, but the Cube has no more soul than any of the other current consoles. Simply putting the pedegree on the console doesn't mean anything without some serious games. At least the N64 had some epic gaming moments. None of which really exsist on the CUBE..
-
Ill say it again, if you want a quriky Japaneese game, look no futher than Phantom Dust. One of the strangest games in a while, yet for $20 one of the best buys of the entire XBOX lifespan. Awesome game, and I hate eastern titles.
Oh yeah, it was even first party in house developed by XBOX Japan!!!
-
Um they already bought 20% of the shares a few months back. They wanted more, but were stopped.
The board considered it a hostile take over. Haven't heard much about it since then though. Lets hope for the best.
Just like EA to buy out what they can't compete with.

Very nice, inspirational too. Id like something simliar for mine. Well at least the cool looking ones.
I store mine by company then by product number.

Enter the matrix is the only game in 20+ years of gaming that I hated so much I had to trade it in. Other than that every game has had at least some fun factor to it.
When you get a new 2600 game now, you have to remember what gaming was like 20 years ago to put thing in perspective.
-
My favorite 2600 game. Im terrible, but I can't put it down when I play it. Im hoping a new potentiometer in my paddle will help out a bit and cause less skips to occur. A true classic that will never fade with time.

The beauty of LIVE....
On a serious note, how many people are normally online on PS2? How hard is it to find good non cheating matches?
