What is your retro computing most "irrational want?"
Papa_Bear replied to rpiguy9907's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
A Timex 1500 or a Timex 2000. They're obscure. there is nearly no programs for them. they are incompatible with the Spectrum! but they looks fantastic. I'd stick a speccy in the ts1500 case. that and the other failed American 8 bit machines -
Sinclair zx81 and Timex 1000 in America
Papa_Bear replied to Papa_Bear's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Welp I've got the 16 ram pack. still waiting for the composite video mod to get here. If this doesn't work I'll need to pick up a new TS-1000. -
Hey I've been on the hunt for more american zx81/ts1000 software and other addons! I haven't seen any major discussion of dissection of these two computers in the united states mostly from across the pond. I've got an NTSC zx81 in my possession! It's a fine computer to play with but I can't seem to find any sort of programs for it or ram packs for it here in the US I'm also working on a Frankenstein Timex Sinclair 1000 with a new handmade keyboard using tac switches as well as modding it to display composite video! I've got a nice B/W composite security monitor I want to use it on. I'm hoping to find or learn about things made for the TS1000. Printers, peripherals, games, controllers! Anything and everything you guys know about, Also I might need a new TS1000 if I butcher this one with my mod

What about a pretty base Ti-99/4a. What sidecar might I need w/o the PEB
-
I really want to find a use for my B/W 990c security monitor. It might be cool for the Ti just monitoring something and throwing then data up on screen.

After watching some videos on YouTube and trying to learn more about electronics and other assorted machines... With out home grown American power house Texas Instruments computer. Unlike other machines from across the pond *cough cough* Where are the robots! Where is the LCDs! Or something silly like controlling a model train set!

What's the Ti/99's version of the SD2IEC like for the Commodore? Also soldering joystick jacks is quite annoying. Could you folks help me decipher the plans for the Adapter. It doesn't look like it matches up with the Atari joystick standard.. the male plugs seem... backwards? http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/hardware/cables/joystick.html

I've been tempted to learn how to repair the C/16 monitor but everyone and their mother has told me it's not worth saving
-
We have oscilloscopes reaching 60+ years and they still work like a dream out there. There is on on ebay for 180 with free shipping . it says "tested and working" but who knows what tested means
-
I want it to last longer than 30 minutes LOL I picked one up for super cheap recently. a C/16 Gold star monitor and it died it once it made it home
-
Title says it all! Looking for some flavor of the commodore monitor that is known to work without dying.
-
What about saving to tape? And well loading from tape! Did Ti come out with their own drive or do I need a break out cable for that. For give me Texas I have sinned... those who caught the mistake
-
So uhh would this forum be the proper place to talk about the Speak and spell too? Picked one up for super cheap recently.
-
So I got the Parsec cartridge to show up in the menu twice... but when I tried to load it it started spazzing out flashing random colors and characters on screen... oh lord. Tried claning the contacts and everything
-
I want to pick up all the strange systems... Ive got an NTSC zx81 then a broken Timex sinclair 1000. I had the chance to get an Aquarious(?) Computer by Matel recently. I love my computers but I have no desk or full time set up for em. They all go back into their box when I'm done with em. Only one sitting out is the Ti-99 now. I once took the Zx81 to school lol. I got a camera bag big enough to fit a car tv the computer the wall warts a and a few tapes.

I'm gonna make this Atari Joystick adapter to practice soldering.... I think it'll be fun! Building an adapter myself! From a 1996 guide! http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/hardware/cables/joystick.html I've got everything but the wire I'm not sure what type of wire I need..... If anyone could link me to some on ebay that'd be great.

Here's a better question.... how would I use the Speech Synth! Do I need a cart or some other program to run it. or is it built in?
-
Uhhh Anyone wanna give me a lift to Lynchburg Va? I've haggled hard for this PET.... I just need to go get it\ Is it easy to repair the speech synth?
-
Might not be getting it now... I can't find a ride... he ended up being much farther then I realized.... Well this sucks.
-
The first retro computer I picked up was a Nib Commodore Plus/4... 2 years of sitting around not knowing what it was or how to use it... once I figured that out everything sorta spiraled into getting really good deals and finds. I almost bought an Atari 1200XL instead of a brand new commodore model C. Now I've talked someone down from 750 to 250 on a commodore pet..... I've been wanting an SX-64 for years but a 4032 pet is a bit more on my list of things I want... he's local too so no shipping
-
Way on the east coast here! The Richmond Va area that is! Don't think I'd make it to west fest.
-
I don't have it yet! I was hoping to pick one up when I get paid.
-
I really wanted the TI-99/4a to play with the speech synthesizer! That's what really got me interested in the machine
-
You folks have been so freaking welcome and nice so far! So sweet I'm going to get a cavity
