  1. RIP Dickey Betts. Incredible song writer, great guitarist and a HUGE influence. The Allman Brothers Band is my all-time favorite band. Rest in peace to one of the last Brothers (Jaimoe is the only original member left).

Great guitarist from a great band.  He outlived Duane by a few decades at least.  What is your favorite song of theirs?

Hard to pick a favorite. My favorite Dickey song is probably Blue Sky. Favorite ABB song... I don't know. I absolutely love Get On With Your Life... Maybe Whipping Post? Dreams? Liz Reed?

Back Where It All Begins is my favorite studio record. It's the one that got me into the band in the first place so it has a special place.

  2. In my version there was a Single player -> Game 1 / Game 2 -> Level X option. I may have worded it wrong, I'll have to check tonight. Pretty much default settings (i.e. Original). I'm not sure there's any real advantage to starting higher than level 0 . I was able to get a screenshot on the game over screen (I'm playing the US rom on Dega), IIRC it stayed up for a while. This is a game I don't have on cart, so I'm not sure what it *really* looks like.. I can do that - Double Down it is!
  3. Time for a change of pace from shooting things down, or kicking dudes in the face. Let's play Columns. It's a game I played on the Genesis a fair bit, but never the SMS version. Let's play Game 1. For one bonus point, play Darts Double Down in Parlour Games (a personal favorite of mine). For one ADDITIONAL bonus point, play all three Parlour Games, any variation: one game each of Darts, Billiards & Bingo. This round runs April 11 - April 28 (sorry, started late this time, I'll let it run an extra week). Totals @BydoEmpire 43,980 @wongojack 33,960 (+2)
  4. Sorry guys, I'm behind on this - crazy weekend last weekend and i didn't get a chance to set up the next round. One week delay...
  5. Picked up a used Meta Quest 1 for cheap. It's actually pretty cool, there are some neat travel & meditation apps. The virtual roller coaster is surprisingly fun. Hard to wear for a long time with glasses, though. About 30m is all I can do. Still, for cheap, it's a fun little gadget. Older model isn't super high res, but it gets the job done. The tracking is really good.

I heard it's fun to watch movies on these VR headsets. I never had one or tried one. I wanna pick one up. I wear glasses too. I assume the straps press on the temple pieces of the glasses? That would suck. Maybe some sports goggle style glasses would mitigate that -- with their fabric straps.

For me, it's more that it presses the bridge against my nose. I'm using an older pair of glasses with thin wire frames. If I had bigger, thicker glasses it might be a different problem. I can do about 30m, then it starts to get uncomfortable. Still, that's enough to enjoy it. I don't need to sit with tiny screens one inch in front of my eyeballs for hours on end.

  6. Got to stage 2 - 628,000. I lost one life because Buster wanted attention and kept head-butting my hand while I was trying to dodge bullets!
  7. Buster was quite amused by Thunder Blade. I think she was pondering whether or not she could eat the helicopters flying around... i'm open to whatever the group wants to do. Generally, I'm inclined to say no autofire for HSC games but I mostly play for fun so it's not that big a deal either way.
  8. Your picture there is the closest I'll come to seeing the ending screen of Rambo, so thanks for that!
  9. Getting on the board. I'm enjoying Thunder Blade more than I thought I would. It was pretty exciting to get to the 3D stage the first time. I have to learn not to fly too close to the top of the screen in the overhead stages, though, I tended to lose a lot of lives quickly. 149,000. Played a quick game of Afterburner - I might to do this as a full round at some point. It was the first (non-pack in) game I got w/ my Master System back in '89 or so.
  10. I owned this back in the day, but I remember being a little disappointed. It looked good, but I thought it was really hard (compared to Afterburner, anyways). I haven't played it in ages, so let's see how accurate my memory is with Sega's unique two-perspective arcade game: Thunder Blade For one bonus point, play any Sega Master System game where you fly a jet. This round runs March 25 - April 7. Totals @wongojack 817,000 (+1) @BydoEmpire 628,000 (+1) @Zoyous 164,000 @Dashopepper 150,000 (+1) @jeremiahjt 148,000 (+1) @fakecortex 98,000 (+1) Roland 8600 (+1) Buster the Cat (-1)
  11. Today I put on Youtube for my cats so they wouldn't bother me while I worked from home. What kind of crazy world do we live in? Granted, it was just during a particular 30m meeting late, but still... File under "things that 5 years ago i wouldn't not have foreseen myself doing." By the way, the Birder King channel is great - my cats both absolutely love it.

See if your cats respond positively to this VHS rip of "Cat Sitter", a tape made 20+ years ago that's specifically intended to be viewed by cats! (Also I love the very unique anti-piracy message at the start of the tape.)

My real question here is do cats look at all those mice in the footage the way a human looks at a Taco Bell commercial?

  12. A bit better, finally made it to round 2: 27,750
  13. I got pretty good at Rambo III in a previous round, but it's a game that relies heavily on memorization and I've forgotten it all. Still fun, I need to play some more.
  14. Hah, when I posted this round I kept thinking of Rocky quotes as well.
  15. It's been a while, and I've never been that good at it, but just getting on the board: 18,350 I did play Rambo III, but picture on my phone - I'll upload later.
  16. Someone at work shared a picture of their cat which had a star-shaped mark on his face. I mentioned that it looked like he was dressed up as Ace Frehley ... the person said they didn't know who that was and had to google it. Yep, getting older...

Maybe they didn't know because Paul Stanley is the Starchild.

haha, wow, I guess so! I'm not really a Kiss fan, but I probably should have remembered that. Peter Criss was the cat guy and Gene Simmons is the demon... not sure how I mixed up Paul & Ace.

Of course,  you could look at Any cat,  and say Looks like Peter Criss,  and get the usual blank stare from some younger folks (haaa)...

  17. Come join the Sega Master System High Score club. The next round starts Monday, with the theme of Rambo!  Play Rambo: First Blood Part 2 and the light gun game Rambo III.

  18. This round features games we've played before, but worth revisiting. One of the best earlier SMS titles - Rambo: First Blood Part 2. I like the game a lot, but I've never made it past the second level, so maybe this is the year! This round runs March 11 - March 24 For one bonus point, play the light gun game Rambo III. Totals @Dashopepper 296,500 (+1) @wongojack 195,900 (+1) @neogeo1982 41,800 (+1) @BydoEmpire 27,750 (+1) Roland 12,050 (+1) @fakecortex 5,700 (+1)
  19. Slightly better, I can get to the second stage quite consistently. 17,400 Played a bit of Bruce Lee, too. I loved it on the c64, but it's been so long I don't remember anything other than get the lanterns.
  20. I turned the Celtics/Warriors game back on to see if it got any closer in the second half... nope. Boston up by 53 points. Live by the 3, die by the 3 I guess.
