  1. Meh, I played a few games of Bomberman online (when I could connect, anyways, which seems to be rare) and one game of NCAA. I really don't care for competetive online games. Phantasy Star Online is about the only online game I ever really got into, though I do love the online "features" like seeing your friends' scores on XBLA games.
  2. Toilet paper is pretty cheap, I don't really need to get any free. I've been reading EGM since 1989 (still have the '89 Buyer's Guide and some other early issues), but I cancelled my subscription this year. It's gone downhill terribly the last few years, imho, and I finally couldn't take it anymore. If I want to read stupid, snarky comments I'll just go to Kotaku.
  3. Q*Bert, Frogger, Bob and Rhindle. I hard a hard time choosing between Jr. Pac Man & Frogger. Frogger doesn't have a lot of personality, but he did get it on w/ Ms. Frog, so that's kind of cool.
  4. I'm using a MS natural keyboard and it works great - when it works. Seems to not be detected if I try to use it after returning to the Wii menu from MP3. If I just boot up the Wii and enter Wii numbers, or type up Wii messages it works fine. It really makes a huge difference, though, I've sent WAY more wiimail and added a ton of friends since plugging in the keyboard. Shame the support is a so flaky, though.
  5. I did start working on my game - but since I'm starting from ground zero and have many other demands on my time I don't make any predictions on a completion date. I do, however, have my main character zipping across the screen and a couple of debug routines working. It's been ages since I've touched 6502 assembly (and even then I never did much with it), so it's taking me a long time to do simple stuff. Plus I've never worked on the A8 before, so I have to learn its graphics features as I go. The game is a fantasy-themed combination of Robotron, Zelda and Berzerk... at least on paper. We'll see what it ends up *actually* being. Pretty standard classic arcade fare, but that's the kind of stuff I like, and it seemed pretty "doable" as a first project on this system. I'll post more stuff or put up a web site once it's further along, there's nothing to really show right now.
  6. I just started a 5200 project, and I'm wondering what tools people use to create alternate character sets? Drawing pm graphics on graph paper is doable since they're small and few, but seems like their ought to be some existing tool to convert, say, a BMP to a character set and screen map. I searched a bit, but didn't find anything. Maybe I'll have to write that first. [Edit] Ah, I found a couple. Any preferences?
  7. I still have my family's c64, though I don't have it hooked up. I have a shoebox full of discs, but last I checked a couple years ago only maybe 1 in 5 was actually readable. Kind of a shame, but since they were almost all *gasp* pirated *gasp* I can't really complain. Anyways, enjoy the system, there's a LOT of great gaming to be had.
  8. I'm not very good at NCAA 08, either, and I've only played a few games against real opponents (won 2, lost 1). On defense, I never, EVER control CBs and safeties manually. Let the CPU do it. I pretty much take control of a lineman and try to get to the QB. If it's a passing down, I tend to go with Cover 3 or Man/Zone (2 guys in deep zone). ALWAYS have someone in a deep zone to help protect against the long play. What team are you playing with, perhaps your corners just aren't very good? If you're getting blitzed a lot, go with a shotgun formation that has some quick out or curl routes. Look for the defenders who do their preplay blitz animations and plan to throw to your receiver in that general area. If you want to play online against someone else who sucks, send me a friend request (assuming you're on 360): ZeyerGTR.
  9. Old-style 50's radios playing music, I believe. 96000! Awesome. Damn it, now I gotta go play it again. I always thought they were some kind of electric generator. You got 96k!?!? Damn it, now *I* have to go play again!!! Good stuff. The dual, low bouncing balls around level 15 get me every time. They took pretty much all of my lives on my last game.
  10. I was in the zone this morning: 91,000. I hit the elevators on the first floor probably 3/4 rounds. Once you get it once you can often time it to be waiting for you on the 1st floor for a couple rounds in a row.
  11. I only played the DS version briefly, but I didn't care for it. I'd go with the Wii version since you can use the classic controlle or GC controller.
  12. I don't know about a secret hidden trick, but if you do get an elevator ready for you on the 1st floor, definitely take it to the 2nd floor. I've never been able to take it up to the 3rd floor successfully because the theif just turns around and runs back. If your timing was *just right* you might be able to do it. I believe that each round the elevator starts where it left off the previous round.
  13. I'd put Star Raiders up there. I playing it a lot last week and it's held up really well. Maybe Necromancer, too.
  14. Go Winky, go! Also Bently, Mario & Peter Pepper. It's the Round of Heroes.
  15. Is this a comedy thread? The premise is laugh-out-loud ridiculous.
  16. 44,000 even. I need to learn to get past the 3-in-a-row sparky generators on level 10, although I think I just figured it out last game... [Edit]Aha - 53,000. Took a pic, but I got the score right before I left for work so I didn't upload. Triple jumps, I own you now!!!
  17. Was there an official Gateway to Apshai for the 5200, or is it a homebrew port of the A8 version? [Edit]Nevermind, I see it's an Atarimax release. I might have to pick that up!!!
  18. I think it's a cool idea for a pack-in, and kind of unexpected (I was thinking it would be Duck Hunt or Wii Play-style minigame compo).
  19. I don't always post pics, especially if I know i'm nowhere near the top spot. Personally, I think the honor system is okay. Is someone REALLY going to cheat in the 5200 HSC? This is for fun, and there's no prize other than pride, which you don't get if you cheat anyways.
  20. Woohoo -it's ON! I really enjoy playing this game, although it's one of those "one single, tiny mistake and you're done" type of games.
  21. Four votes for Keystone Kapers - make it so!!!
  22. If it's between those two, I'd go with Defender (since I have it), but my first choice is still Keystone Kapers.
  23. Yeah, I kind of went off on a tangent. But back to the topic, I don't really see much of the 5200 in the 360... or the Dreamcast for that matter. The 360 couldn't shine the Dreamcast's shoes, imho (I have both, obviously, and I'm not a 360 hater by any means).
  24. Uh, yeah, actually. Now, they're not the SAME games, but there are a LOT of sequels (and when you compare 2600 to 5200 games they might as well be sequels). Geometry Wars, Halo, PGR, Forza... This isn't exclusive to the 360, of course.
