I wondering if sega saturn X is still laughing at people who camped for Wiis because, you know, you won't be able to walk into a store without bumping into stacks and stacks of Wiis. Or something like that. ^_^ I've been looking around for Classic Controllers and haven't seen them anywhere, but I'm in no hurry.

I'm 33. Although I actually did more 2600 collecting when I was in my late teens and early 20s. Lots of garage sales had 2600 stuff then, and I didn't have a mortage, car payments, savings, etc. competing for my paycheck. =)

Cloak And Dagger, If you had it what would you do?

I'd play it until I got 1,300,000 points... or thereabouts... -
Nintendo DS board for 'mature' gamers?
BydoEmpire replied to ls650's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Use www.gamerankings.com or www.metacritic.com for game reviews. www.DualScreenRadio.com and its associated Monroeworld forums are pretty good. "Mature Discussion" and "Internet Forum" don't really go together. =) -
Yeah, definitely. I had to GameFAQ my way through Metroid Prime. As many things as that game did absolutely brilliantly, I felt the bosses were overly difficult. I fought Ridley literally 20 times and didn't figure out any new strategy, weak point or anything. Then one time I just randomly happened to win. That sucks. And they didn't make it quick and easy to replay the bosses, which would have helped mitigate the problem. I preordered Prime 2, but I was so pissed at Prime 1 that I never picked it up. I was also ticked that after all that work I got a crappy, short ending because I *only* scanned 71% of the game. Still pisses me off... Games in 2006... er... 2007 need either adjustable or adaptive difficulties.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
BydoEmpire replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Woo hoo! Went to Flea World and picked up the following at Game Traders: 2 port 5200 w/ 1 WORKING controller, Pac Man, Vanguard, Realsports Tennis - $35 NHL 94 (CIB, Sega CD) - $0.99 NBA JAM (sealed, Sega CD) - $1.99 FINALLY, I have a 5200. And it has a working conroller to boot! I've had a stack of 5200 games sitting in a drawer for many years, and now I can finally play them. The system is awesome, by the way, I'm really having a good time w/ it. -
Many years ago (~15) I bought a 5200 at a used game store, but the controllers didn't work. This was basically pre-www, so I had no idea why and returned it. Years after that, a friend was moving and gave me a small stack of 5200 carts, which I've had staring at me for ages, unplayed and lonely. Over the years I've had my eye on 5200's on ebay, but either got sniped, or didn't want to pay the relatively high going rate. Well, this morning I went to Flea World (Game Trader), and what do they have, but a 2 port 5200 with one controller. The guy didn't know whether the controller worked or not, but they have a 30 day return policy and this time I figured I could just buy some replacement controllers. For $35 (with one controller, Pac Man, Realsports Tennis and Vanguard) I figured what the heck. I arrived home, plugged in the unit, and while the power light came on, I got nothing but fuzz. I always thought the 5200 displayed a black screen instead of static so I kept fiddling with the channel switch, power plug, etc. After a few minute I took a look at my RF swtichbox, and realized that it had been stuck halfway between "computer" and "TV." I flipped it, and was met with the colorful Atari logo! I pressed "Start" with baited breath, anxiously holding on to the slim hope that the controller would work. Hm, i could move the ship up/down/left/right. Yep, I could fire! Everything seemed in order. Okay, let me try out something else. I put in Pac Man and voila - it worked like a charm! Defender - perfect! Ms Pac Man - perfect! Jungle Hunt - perfect! I couldn't be happier! After all these years, I finally got a 5200 at a reasonable price, and the controller works great. I have to say, I'm impressed with the controller. It's WAY more comfortable than the Colecovision's. It has a nice feel, the side buttons are soft and easy to press. I had no problems with Pac Man, Defender, or any other game. Reliability aside, I don't really get all the 5200 controller bashing, I find them to be comfortable and functional. Obviously I haven't had extended playtime, but my first impressions are very positive. Anyways, just thought I'd share. I always drooled over the 5200 in the 80s, never able to afford one. I've been keeping my eye out for a system for years now and I'm so happy I finally got one. Now, to start amassing carts... =)

That's odd, I played CastleVania IV with a cube controller and didn't have any trouble using the wiimote to exit back to the main menu. A bug perhaps? FWIW I don't have a classic controller either. Genny games work with the wiimote, too, although depending on how they use the A button, some might be pretty tough.

I've read that it takes a while to get used to the controls, so maybe stick with it? I'm late to this thread, but personally I was pretty disappointed in SMB. The single player is pretty standard SMB stuff, which is cool. But I didn't find any of the minigames particularly fun or replayable. I went through them just to see what they were, but none of them had me playing over and over. They totally screwed up Monkey Target, too, which was a family favorite on the 'cube.

Why did early-ish Atari VCS games change colour at game over?
BydoEmpire replied to Loccy's topic in Atari 2600
I would guess it was to display something clearly different from the main game screen while using as few resources as possible. It also sort of had an "attract mode" feel of drawing your attention. -
Red Steel definitely reminded me of Goldeneye. The weapons, and some of the levels very reminiscent of 007. Still, it's not an "A" game, and there are a lot of people who don't like it (or didn't play past the first few levels and have a bad impression), so you might want to give RS a rental, or buy it later when it's cheap and get Elebits now. I've heard DBZ is pretty good, too, but I haven't played it.

Don't be scared - it's a pretty fun game. Yeah, it's kind of buggy. And it's not the prettiest game on the block (though, to be fair, there are some really nice looking levels especially later in the game). And some aspects of the control are clunky (zooming). But it's fun. One of the few FPS's I've enjoyed enough to play all the way through. The swordfighting works well and gets pretty intense in later levels. Picking off enemies with the wiimote works well. And the level design is excellent - everything feels big without being confusing.

What are your 2007 gaming predictions?
BydoEmpire replied to 8th lutz's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Oh God, I hope not. I don't think I can take too much more. :/ -
How many hours have you logged on Zelda so far?
BydoEmpire replied to RandomPerson's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Only about 10 hours in, I just started Goron Mines. I plan on playing a whole lot this week, since I'm off of work. -
Post what classic gaming you got for X-Mas
BydoEmpire replied to Wester's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Not sure if it counts, but the Intellivision Plug & Play #2. -
Pretty handy for checking hour-by-hour local weather, and for watcing Youtube on the TV. I really didn't see myself browsing on a TV at all, and I still probably won't use it much, but after an hour went by this morning I have to admit it's pretty comfy sitting in a recliner while browsing around.

Ah, yeah, I was trying to think of the name of that. RGA is a great game.

Karnaaj Rally is awesome.

What was the first VideoGame magazine you ever bought?
BydoEmpire replied to jboypacman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't recall exactly what was the first. One that I remember actually buying (at a Fleet Farm store, no less) was a copy of Joystik (?) with Tutankham on the cover. I used to have a bunch of Electronic Games for the era, though I have no idea what was the first one I bought. I only have one of those issues now - it has a holiday buyer's guide, and gamer's guide to home computers. Because I was an idiot (and young), pictures of various games are cut out throughout the issue (for a Christmas wish list I suppose). -
I picked this up a few weeks ago at KMart for $10. However, I gave it to my wife to give it to me for Xmas, so I haven't tried it yet. =)

When I was in college, I wasted $70 on some Batman game for the SNES (Batman Returns? I forget which one exactly). I should have known better. But I loved Batman on the NES and the screens looked AWESOME. It was a great looking game, but the gameplay was extremely shallow. That was a lot of money, and I don't think I've ever been as pissed about a game purchase. You know, I've picked up the box for those at Walmart a copule times, and I've been tempted by the cheap price. But I managed to resist as realized I would never play it, and it had nothing to do with Colecovision games. Glad to hear I can save my $2.50.

I had an Inty at the time, so I played Pac Man on our neighbor's 2600. I actually liked the game. I was only about 8 or 9 at the time, so like tcv said, I didn't really care much.

Really? Who said that? I'm all for the Wii's VC, and I've enjoyed getting some Turbo games I hadn't played (or hadn't played in a long time), but I don't know ANYONE here or elsewhere that wanted to get rid of their classic games just to rebuy them for the Wii. That seems pretty odd. I think the VC is great for the games not available elsewhere (TG16 stuff, some of the upcoming Nintendo games like Mario RPG). Having a save state for some of these games is definitely a bonus, and the convenience is nice. So the VC games have a place. But, like ninjarabbit said, there are lots of good and cheap compilations for ps2/xbox/ngc right now. I just picked up the Genny one for ps2 yesterday for $20 and it's excellent.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
BydoEmpire replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I had $18 in credit at Gamestop, so I picked up the Genesis Collection new for PS2 for $2. It's a really solid compilation, imho. There are a lot of interviews and games to unlock. I'm especially happy that Tac Scan is in there. Not as good as bones' find, though, that is awesome. I loved Master of Monsters back in the day. -
Gameinformer top 10 Disappointments of 2006
BydoEmpire replied to 8th lutz's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Wow, you guys are reading my mind! Very well said. Although, after years of spending way too much time on game-related message boards, I've finally gotten so sick of the constant complaining that I'm surfing much less these days. And gaming is more fun as a result. [Edit] AA is still a daily stop for me, of course. =)
