  1. I picked up an Xbox 360 from a guy at work for $50, with Kinect and a few games.  I haven't touched a 360 since mine died for the second time almost a decade ago, but I have a big bag full of games.  It's been a long time since I've played anything remotely "modern."

Welp, there are so many retro releases for the 360 that you don't even have to play the modern stuff.

Sounds fun and I wish ya the best of course, ... but I never owned a 360 cuz my friends who did had and always used the "extended warranties".  Those things kept dying and they kept getting new ones...I wondered what the future would be like for them?...

  2. My goal at work today was to not say anything I'd really regret.  So far, so good. One more late meeting and I'll have succeeded.

Did you spray your throat with something that temporarily mutes you?

I find it helps to think about what you're about to say before actually saying it.

I find it helps a lot if you don't pay attention to anything anyone else is saying.

  3. I actually liked the new Ghostbusters.  There were funny bits, and it was a nice remake.  It walked a fine line - not too close but didn't stray too far from the original. Not great, but better than my low expectations.

I only saw the trailer, but it looked ok. Probably wouldn't buy the movie though.

I will (begrudgingly) admit that I too, have actually, on occasion, watched remakes...Now generally,  I was at work,...The true proverbial" Getting Paid to watch it" situation...But....Does anyone else feel just...IDK, Against the whole idea of it in the first place?  What next?  Remake Star Wars, or The Matrix, or Hell, Dark City or any other movie they got right the first time!  The point is they could have made a sequel or even rebooted a series instead and it would have been just fine...Also Any movie where they re-use a name rubs me the wrong way...

I'm not a big fan of remakes.  Like most, this one didn't need to be made.  However, I did enjoy it for what it was.  1) my wife and I had a few glasses of wine befor ewatching 2) I *liked* the original but I have no particularly strong attachment to it so there was no nostalgic blasphemy in redoing it.

  4. Just getting things kicked off. I love this game! 30,400
  5. Any chance you could update the original post with the leaderboard for each round? The overall standings are nice, but it'd be cool to see how each round stacked up. No worries if you don't have time to do it, just asking.
  6. Ooh yeah, looking forward to this one. It's been a while since I've played it.
  7. IMHO Kipchoge's sub-2 hour marathon would probably be the greatest achievement in the history of sports... if it was an official race.  Even so, it's still absolutely incredible.  Hope he does it!

I've thought it could be done if they pace themselves evenly as possible.

And then there's whether it could be done on a hilly course or only a very flat course.

  8. I was never very good at Galaga, I don't think I've ever played Expert before. 68,660
  9. Two words that really get my goat are "ideate" and using "action" as  verb. Let's ideate and then action on it!  Ugh.  It's worse than a pro-active, evergreen paradigm shift.

@Flojomojo Yeah, I actually did look it up to see if it's a real word.  It's been around a long time.  I've never heard anyone use it until the last 5 years or so where it's caught on as corporate buzz-speak.  It can still be annoying to me, regardless of legitimacy as an actual word. ;)

      It's perfectly crimulent word.

  10. Got a chance for a couple quick games of Desert Falcon this morning. I've done a little better, but I figured I might as well get something up. 16,675:

  12. Video games: built on caffeine and 12+ hour days.

  13. I grew up with the Intellivision, but I never had a problem with the disc - then or now. To me they're way more ergonomic than the 5200, 7800 and CV controllers. They cause way less stress on your hands and wrists. The bigger problem with the Inty controllers is the side buttons, not the disc.
  14. I totally agree. I like Desert Falcon, it's a decent game. It's not great, imho, due to thsi factor.
  15. Greetings from beautiful Stockholm!  Some really nice vintage guitar shops here... and great food. I've eaten more bread in the last three days than I've eaten all year.

Have a nice trip! Stockholm is the best in the summer time, so you came right at the end of the period.

  16. For the games I've played, it doesn't seem too far off. There are a few I'd rate a little differently (Desert Falcon), but that's going to be true of any review site.
  17. I had one for years and very rarely played it. I like the Genesis a lot, but I sold my Sega CD because it just didn't get much use. YMMV of course, but for me I'd say "not worth the money." You can buy a lot of other classic gaming goodness for $200+ (plus the cost of games).
  18. Is it AI-driven, crowd-sourced, fueled by big data and powered by the Cloud? 😝
  19. A little late, but finally bought The Bard's Tale remake from GOG - looks awesome so far. And by so far, I had enough time to create my party.  Looking forward to *actually* playing the game through. I never finished it back on the c64.

Lessee...I have it on PS2!  I remember playing it for a bit and it was pretty funny/entertaining...

The ps2 one is an action adventure, as far as I remember (I have it, I think I played the first level).  This is a full-on remake of the 80s RPG: https://www.gog.com/game/the_bards_tale_trilogy

  20. All of them? Just to narrow it down, I picked: Treasure of Tarmin, Dracula, Demon Attack and Tron Deadly Discs. Utopia would be cool, too, as it's so Iconic as an Intellivision title. My #1 choice wouod be a version of AD&D Cloudy Mountain. I don't really need more versions of Pac Man or Galaga. Not that they wouldn't be good, but I've already got a million choices to play modern version of those.
  21. My family's first console was an Intellivision around '81. It was *great*! The controllers were not an issue at all. They just were what they were and we played the games and loved them. My dad would even play basketball, baseball, horse racing and poker & blackjack with us. I don't think he played a video game since. My sister played it a bit as well, but not as much as my brother and I. Every Christmas and birthday gift list for the next few years included Intellivision games. Our neighbors had a 2600 and I liked that, too, but back then we looked at it as "cool, more, different video games" not "mine's better than yours" or vice versa. The games were *incredible*. There was something for everyone, and a lot of ground-breaking stuff. Some of my favorites back then were AD&D: Cloudy Mountain (still in my top 5 games of all time) Astrosmash (I was amazed my brother could play late into the night, pause with the 1/9 trick, and restart in the morning). Auto Racing (exploring off-road was so fun) Utopia (oh noooo, a hurricaaanneee!) Dracula (fun single- or two-player) AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin (way ahead of its time) Demon Attack (I liked Space Armada, but Demon Attack took it to another level) Night Stalker (gets pretty tense later one, although eventually I'd revert to the hide&shoot strategy with every gun) Burger Time (great arcade port) Frogger (great arcade port)

  23. Using REM's "Everybody Hurts" in the background was the coup de gras. Pretty funny stuff.
  24. Just chiming in to say I had an Amico dream last night. I went into the breakroom in my office, and there was an Amico (in my dream, it looked like an original Intellivision with updated controllers). I was surprised we had a machine so early, but I tried a bunch of stuff, and noticed a few titles like updates of Dracula and AD&D Cloudy Mountain on the system. I don't recall exactly what I played, but it was pretty cool.
