  1. A few titles I'd like to play: Pac Man Collection Random Mazes (my favorite variation) Dungeon Stalker Desert Falcon (just picked this cart up for last year's HSC, I want to play it more)
  2. I think that's pretty similar for me, which is about the Wii/360 era. I really enjoyed the Wii, and I still do. I enjoyed the 360 to a point, but I don't think I ever bought a full-priced 360 game the entire time I had the console. I certainly didn't have a big library, but I enjoyed a bunch of the games. Spending dozens of hours on a game was just no longer a priority in my life, so I shifted back to pre-crash / arcade games I could have fun with in 10-15 minutes once every couple of weeks without a lot of re-ramp-up.
  3. Cool, looking forward to getting back into the 7800. Thanks for getting this going.
  4. Totally agree on MoH Heroes 2. I never really played the franchise before, but I *loved* the light gun mode, and the multiplayer worked really well for what it was. Quite enjoyable. Another pick for me would be Order Up! I wasn't that into the Wii mini-game types of games, but this one was quirky and fun.
  5. I like Hurricane Dorian well enough, but I hope some day we can explore hurricanes Ionian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian as well.  Stay safe out there, fellow Floridians!

My painting of Mixolydian Gray only ages about A Fifth as much as I had expected...It's pretty Wilde...

The hurricane names are picked before each hurricane season.

I don"t much care for the name Dorian. I guess because I associate the word Dorian with the wreck between the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm. Then I associate the Andrea Doria to a gal I used to know named Alicia Doria, which in turn reminds me of hurricane Alicia in 1980, and Alicia was a real prick. Or something like that...

  6. +1 to ignoring updates to status from ignored users, but I also just got a message from a user I've ignored. That doesn't seem right.
  7. I was thinking of ways to say this same basic thing, but you summarized it so well. Those classic games we love were polished. The designers worked to make them something playable, fun, challenging and replayable because $30-$40 was a lot to ask for a cart. I think a lot of modern attempts at classic games fall short because once the game is up and running, there's not enough iteration on the game play and details that make it fun to play years down the road. That's hard to do when you pump out a game in 3 months, even though modern engines make them look really nice at first glance. We'll see.
  8. You can play with a joystick. It's not the same of course, but surprisingly playable and fun imho.
  9. It's Crossbow! D&D themed light gun game. I like that it's challenging, but you can still feel like you're doing well and get better at it the more you play. I like the variety of enemies and stages. I like the presentation.
  10. Looking good, my only concern is that many of the classic games were so playable because there was such a contrast between the background and the objects. the simplicity was actually a strength. It was easy to follow what's going on as the game play intensified and your eyes had to track more things moving faster. Many modern remakes of classic games completely miss that. Particularly in a game like Shark! Shark!, the new version seems to have such a colorful, busy background it might get awfully visually confusing. It makes for good screenshots, but bad game play. Of course, it's hard to say based on a half-second screen cap. Once it's in front of you played for real it might be just fine. That's about the only thing I could nitpick. I'm 100% on board with a 'back to basics' console, and I love what's been shown so far.
  11. If the 2600's amazing library has taught me anything, it's that any game can be done. It's just a matter of how close you get to what you want to port, and how many changes to the design you need to make to accommodate.
  12. Finally finished Season 3 of Stranger Things. I enjoyed it - I like the direction they went, without going too drastically away from the core of the show. So... that's my tv series for the year, maybe I'll resubscribe next summer...

So that's all you watch on Netflix?  Tip of the tip of the iceberg.

All I had time for, and even that was difficult to carve out. I'm not getting up at 5am to watch  half an episode of some random show.

I hear ya.  We all have time limits and often multiple interests.  It's all a question of how much of what little spare time there is we apportion to each.

  13. This is a pretty interesting, and relatively thorough history of Conan:

  14. Title track released (album coming in a couple weeks):

Pretty cool!  I like the percussive elements.  I saw'em in 1997 (?).  Within that same 10 days, I went to Denver 3 times for concerts seeing Tool, Boredoms (Japan), and John Zorn.

  15. Not including homebrews, I'd say my top 5 in rough order: Food Fight (not widely ported, great pick-up-and-play fun, challenging but fair, great graphics and control) Galaga (to me, more fun than the arcade, I like the slower difficulty ramp) Dig Dug (great port, plays well) Crossbow (because I'm a sucker for D&D types of games, fun but challenging, option to play w/out a light gun) Asteroids (unique version of classic, 2p mode) Honorable mentions to Ms. Pac Man, Joust, One-one-One and Hat Trick I don't have tons of homebrews, but my top 3 would be: Pac Man Collection (one of the best homebrews ever made for any system - a 'desert island' cart) Dungeon Stalker (I'm a big fan of the Inty original, and I love all the additions in this version - looks great and plays well) KC Munchkin (I sold my O2 collection a few years back so it's great to be able to play this again)
  16. A friend of mine gave me a huge bag full of Xbox & Xbox 360 games.  Now, I just need to get a cheap, used Xbox & Xbox 360 console to play them!

  17. "They're missing out on life, because that TV is a bunch of lies and bulls**t, and there's nothing social about social media." - Bruce Foreman

      Pretty accurate statement.

Younger generations spending most of their time on social media, while smoking pot, stuffing their faces with Big Mac's, and dropping F*** bombs every two or three words that comes out of their mouths. Some future ahead...

Previous generations did plenty of pot and other substances.  My sister (~50) sits on her iPad looking at Facebook all day.  I don't get it.  It's not about the generation, it's about the environment in which we're living and how aware of that we are. There's no difference in the PEOPLE themselves; rather how we're raised, and how the culture around us shape our development.   IMHO as always.

  18. So, I assume everyone else with a FloppyEmu can write to disk images & save games on their 2c's? I'm still guessing it's some kind of permissions thing, but it'd be nice to confirm this actually does work for others.
  19. My //c's internal floppy drive died. My FloppyEmu always gave an error when writing, so I've been using my internal floppy to save games. Too bad, as I had a killer Temple of Apshai character that's now lost. Anyways, I figure now is a good time to get the Floppy Emu writes working. I don't recall a specific error code, I'll have to double check, but I tried a number of blank disc images but any kind of write operation (at least, the ones I've tried like Apshai's 'format save disk') gives an error on the display and the operation fails. Anyone else? Simple fix? Anything I should check out? I did verify the blank disk images have write permissions, I'm copying to the SD card from my Mac.
  20. I've been looking for a USB joystick for my pc for a while, but the reviews of the 2600-style usb sticks on Amazon haven't been good.  I'm too cheap to get a bigger, arcade-style controller.  I picked up a Logictech joystick at Goodwill for $3.99 and it works great!

Love my Stelladapter, but the dongle up above seems like it does the same thing...

  21. I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer 7800 Galaga to the arcade version. To me it's the best port of the game because it's the most fun and playable. Not arcade-perfect, of course, but imho that's a good thing. Similar for NES Donkey Kong - sure it's missing the pie level, but it plays really well. I always enjoyed 5200 Pac Man. Excellent and pretty accurate port.
  22. I'll be honest, I sold my O2 years ago and haven't really kept up with what's happening with the console... BUT - both the game and box art look incredible! Great job, and great news for O2 fans.
  23. Pretty good Sunday: I got my //c hooked back up, nice to get reacquainted.  I also had a chance to play Intellivision with my son - he killed his first shark in Shark! Shark!

That's awesome!  "Shark! Shark!" is a great Intellivision game: it's a simple but fun play mechanic, and it's one of those games which made excellent use of the Intellivision's 16-direction disc.

  24. I thought I saw a mouse in my office today.  No need to worry, it wasn't a mouse.  It was a roach the size of a mouse.
